After some thought I decided it was worth a shot at posting this into it's own thread..
Is anyone out there interested in having a PASR Gathering somewhere out west this upcoming season??
Weather it be a week, a few days, a long weekend, whatever.
A lot of us travel out west each season to hit the POW and terrain that we simply don't get around here.
Why not try to make plans so we can hook up and ski with other PASR's
TGR has their summits, Epic ski has gatherings... Well PASR doesn't do anything... so I thought why not try it??
Are you interested in skiing with other PASR's outside of Pa?
Where would you want to go?
When would be a good time?
If you already made plans to go somewhere and want to post that as well as a possible option do that too..
What's up?

I'd be more then happy to offer whatever I can to make something like this happen. If those who don't have enough coin to stay at a hotel, etc, I'd be able to offer a place for people to crash, whatever. Let me know.

Would love to, but I think my wife would kill me if I went out west again. '08-9days, '07-8 days '06- 9 days, '05- 11 days. She said if I go again she is filing for divorce.....
We are thinking about taking our 2 boys to whiteface around the middle of march.
The Scranton Ski/drinking Club use to go every St. Patrick's day weekend. We went about 7 years in a row. The trip just fell apart b/c we all started having kids. So some of the old guard are thinking about starting the trip up again since all our kid are starting to ski better than their parents.

GSS, choose your words very carefully. I have about 10-12 friends who skied with me 90 days a year, now they don't even own skis. I know some guys who talked like you and now they have to ask to take a shit there so whipped.....
Money is the real issue, this is the first year my wife is not working so we have to see how our businesses work out in relationship to our bills for the year.
Also the kids are not ready to ski out west yet, close, but not yet.
We are planning to go to Tahoe in March 2010

I never had a serious girlfriend after I turned 21. Not being tied down and going where I wanted when I wanted was the best. The only serious gf I ever had taught me everything I didn't want in a spouse. I did not meet my wife until I was almost 29. I had a rule, a gf had to last 2 ski seasons. Since my winter job is skiing, the first year was always great, it was the second season was the real test. well my wife was so good through 2 I change my rule to 3 seasons. Well after 3 ski seasons and we were still together and more importantly skiing together, I just had to marry her b/c i really believed i was not going to get any better. And I was right, I am very happily married with 2 wonderful kids and a really good life. My single friends do less than me and when we do do things like golf, the get more grief then me.

Winter Park could happen if everyone interested thought it was a good idea..
Glenn would already be there....
Nick I'm assuming could make that trip from boulder
Then we got GSS and me... and I think GSS mentioned that Jeff might be interested in something like that..
I've already skied at Breck, Vail and Keystone...so WP would be somewhere new for me and I'd be cool with that.
I THINK you can also go to Copper as well with the transfour pass or something like that so that could potentially be another option for a day as well if transportation there could be had..
Definitely something to think about anyways...
Any other ideas??

FWIW... I've found Winter Park for 5 nights lodging in town close to shoppes and food, 4 days skiing (transfour pass), including air from PHL for under $700 for a single booking in mid Jan. Under $650 mid December.
Transfers from Denver can be done for about $60 each way... and the shuttle bus to the w/p slopes 1.5 miles away is FREE
WHAT WHAT??

I'd think we'd be better off in Jan. / Feb. / early March than we would be in Dec.
I really only looked at Dec. because in another thready you had mentioned speaking to Jeff about a possible early trip to Co.
and I was trying to avoid plans that some may have already made for Late Jan - Early March (peak season)
Glenn would know best here though when the best time to go is... or when not to go (other than the obvious holiday weekends)

^the east wall yea. hiked it a bunch last year (bump "scenes from the beach" if you feel like seeing shitty pics). its really only moderately steep depending on where you go. not a whole lot of vert either. not really any huge cliffs or pillow lines. there are definitely some fun and crazy lines on that wall though. still doesnt compare to what WP has.
Pali has some cool stuff. little steeper and a couple really crazy lines. still not a whole lot of vert though. i just like WP cause everything is pretty much lift accessed and i like mini-golf/pillows lines - even though i didnt hit much last year. only had park skis

I know and I thank you a lot for that. I will probably not have an experience that I had like that for a long time. It was awesome having you take me through those woods. FWIW I personally wouldn't want to choose that weekend... $300 more for a busier weekend just doesn't make sense.
I wouldn't not go that weekend though if for some reason it was the weekend everyone else wanted.
Make sense??
Same goes with WP.. If for some reason people wanted to go elsewhere I'm game for that too.
I would prefer to keep it in Co. though so we can include Nick, Glenn, Jordan, Shadows, etc.. as it would be great to get everyone together.
The thing is nobody is giving out any ideas on where they'd like to go.
Nox said he could try to go if we went Dec 14 - Jan 14 (obviously X-mas - New Years is out so the latest week in Jan would be the best.. I guess... Jan 8-13th area for snow reasons)
Toast seems like he's pretty open to suggestions as long as the $$ is right.
Glenn and Shadows said they could possibly help out 1 or 2 peeps with floor space if they needed it.
(obviously you'd need to make arrangements with them and I'd hope you'd hook them up with something for their generosity)
We could also possibly pimp some discounts on lifts as well.. (obviously this depends on where we go and where we found the lift discounts)
If you don't want to post your ideas on the board for whatever reason, then PM me.
If I don't hear anything from you, I'm assuming that you aren't interested....
As of right now, it looks like people have some interest but noone really is committed to looking for dates, places, etc. other than the few ideas I've thrown out there. (and those from the Co. peeps)

December seems to early for Colorado unless it's a last minute trip after they get dumped on. I'd prefer Utah to Colorado since I've never skied there and the Utah resorts are 40 minutes from the airport vs 2 hours for the Colorado ones. Seriously for me..I'm so used to the flexibility of planning my own ski trips that if I were to take part in a PASR gathering out west..I'd most likely just meet the PASRs at the ski area and take care of my own arrangements with lodging, rental car/shuttle and airfare. Even the other day when I was talking with Atomic Jeff he was talking about an early season Colorado trip and he wanted an evening flight to Denver..and for me personally..I like to be on the first flight of the day..
So in summary...it would be cool to ski with some PASRs out west..so if you guys come up with a time and place..I'll do my best to get my ass out there. My schedule is uber flexible during the winter so I can make last minute plans..

Boy this is going nowhere fast...
So far this is what I'm getting from all this..
Jordan probably hasn't seen the post yet.
Jeff hasn't posted anything (other than conversing with GSS) it seems as if he's just not into it (unless GSS is doing something).
Nox can only do Dec 14 - Jan 14 for legit reasons however it's not the best time to go to Co. and he would rather avoid WP because of terrain and going there last season..
Dan needs it to be during his spring break (legit reason) but the costs / crowds for that week is going to kill it for others...
Kragan is down with WP, but would like it to be late Feb.
GSS doesn't know WTF he's doing, will not commit to anything, would rather do Utah than Co. because of airport distance and never having skied there before (legit reason), however he would try to make it to wherever a PASR gathering is if it fit into what he wanted to do. (sounds like an excuse)
Toast wants a killer deal posted that he can jump on for financial reasons. Although I do believe he does want to go the price just needs to be tight. (legit)
Glenn / Shadows are both willing and want to hook up PASR's that want to ski with them... (super legit)
Nick Malozzi seems as if he wants to ski / meet PASR's would make the trek to WP and possibly could make the trek elsewhere depending on distance and timeframe.. (legit)
Ski Head - would love to go but it would lead him into a divorce in order to do it, so that obviously counts him out (legit reason)
and lastly.. me
I'm just trying to organize this chaotic mess and figure out a way to ski / chillax with some PASR's in good terrain out west on a budget of course
So... all in all we got this...
For Crowd / Expense reasons
MLK weekend is out
Presidents Day weekend is out
Spring Break weeks are out
X-mas - N. Years is out
Colorado will be cheaper than Utah because flights to Co. are cheaper than Utah.
However this depends on shuttle rates between airport-lodge or car rental rates is renting a vehicle.
Colorado could possibly include Glenn, Nick Malozzi, Shadows, Jordan
Utah might exclude them...
The best flight rate I've found to Colorado is around $220 (extra baggage rates not included in this) $310 via southwest (no extra cost baggage issues)
Shuttle back and forth is around $120 round trip
The flight cost goes up by $100-$150 mid Feb - March
I have not researched flights to Utah other than initially when I found that Colorado flights were indeed cheaper.

I won't be able to make it unless it were winter break or spring break.

I can def help shack people up if the need arises. I have a pull out couch, and a spare bed in my home office. I also have an air mattress. I've successfully slept 6 people in my apartment comfortably in addition to Gwen and myself, and nobody had to sleep on the floor.
Keep in mind that I work 9-5 Monday-Friday, and probably will not be eligible for any vacation days during the time this all goes down. So, I'm game to hit the hills on the weekend days of this excursion, and I'm 99% sure you can count Gwen in as well. I'd prefer WP if I'm going to be putting people up at my place because it is an easy drive, but could get coaxed into a further resort if people are willing to kick me a few bucks for gas. Gwen and I only own one car currently, so I can transport 2 people in to the resorts. Anymore then that and you're going to have to work out a rental car or something.
I take lodging fees in the form of beer and pretzels (sounds odd, but it is damn hard to find a good bag of pretzels out here).
That is my story, and I'm sticking to it.
