Now that I have a pair of twins...I want to land backwards and hopefully pull off a 540..but only if it's real soft..For me I'd be more likely to spin to the left..is that typical for a right-handed skier/rider? I want to also do the steps and the butter-box switch..just a new challenge..

You should be able to spin in both directions.

well it sounds like he hasn't really done a lot of spins, and it's harder to spin opposite so usually I've seen people learn spins in their normal direction and once they get 3s comfortably they'd start to learn switch I think it would be hard to just start out learning normal and switch spins at the same time.

Surprised DH hasn't posted in this thread yet. I know he's a fan of spin to win.

That was THE reason I switched from skiing to snowboarding. I got nutted once in middle school the year I started doing park and I was like fuck this never again. I kind of wish I had stayed though, I spent like 2 years getting back to where I was skiing on a snowboard, and then twin tips blew up so I would have been riding park on skis right when they hit mainstream.

It's not too hard to spin on skis. I picked up on it really quick my first year. As for learning, you just need to have the right mind yet, and don't get scared out on what your about to do. Jibbing took me a little longer to get use to, I would suggest starting out on the small rails and boxes, and then work your way up. Getting nutted with ski pants on isn't as nearly as bad as getting nutted without them on. You get use to getting nutted, and just usually ride it off. Sometimes you will get some that really hurt, but thats the chance you have to take with skiing on a high rail haha.

I found spins to be really easy but I was a kid then and everything is mad easy when you are 12. I spun to the left also, it felt more natural for me for some reason. I also ended up right foot forward on boards, so I dunno what part of the brain relates to that but it definately goes that way for me.

Work on a trampoline, its an easy way to learn how to spin better.
Spin with your body, your head determines how far you go, keep looking and you'll keep spinning.

what i did when learning to spin was hit one jump and spin left followed by another one but spinning right, it works well, since im also a righty and spin left.
