Need help finding a truck...

As some of you know I was Tboned the day before i left for GD50. My car was totaled so now i need a new ride. I'm looking for a truck that can tow 10k+ lbs. I would prefer diesel but am open to gas. I have 6k to spend tho not trying to blow all of it in case of any work needed. Anyone have any leads for me? Also if you could just keep your eyes peeled in your respective areas I'd be greatly appreciative.

this is just my opinion, but dont bother buying a diesel truck for a personal vehicle.  Diesel is costing more than gas these days, and the savings in mpg will quickly be swallowed up by repairs.  Diesel trucks are really expensive to fix.  Definitely do not buy a ford with a 6.0 or 6.4.  the market is flooded with those because they all suck.  i have a couple of them here, and it takes a fleet of mechanics to keep them running, and they are horrible on fuel.  they tow stuff well, but thats about all i can it give kudos for.  Chevy's duramax is better, probably dodge's cummins is better than chevy.  Your budget is pretty low for a diesel truck, with that money you would probably end up with something with a ton of miles on it.

 

Long story short, buy a gas engine.

 

FYI - you will need a CDL class A to tow a trailer over 10K GVW.  And just to make that clear, if you have a trailer with a GVW of over 10K hooked up to your truck with nothing loaded on it, you still need a CDL.  Are you going to get caught?  chances are slim.  But i dont think you want to see the fine for that one.

7.3 ford.

 

Yes.  but that engine was done like 2002-2003 if im not mistaken.  now that was the best engine they made, but that will be a 12-13 yr old truck.  Chances of finding on of those in a low mileage beauty are kinda low.  

 

Just to show how fucked up ford is, to remove the engine on a 6.0 or 6.4 they have to take the cab off the truck.  Its kind of neat to see.  not necessarily on one of your own trucks, but it is kind neat to see the cab hoovering above the truck on the lift.

Do you get the same commission for a f250 that you would a fiesta or is it based on the value of the vehicle. I don't know the sales end whatsoever but I hope you get a percentage of value or its rated higher or something....is new different than used? Otherwise screw it.. Sell the beaters as fast as possible....

Definitely better to be salary than..... I know there's not a lot of wiggle room with new vehicles. Even more so on imports, you'd be lucky to have 1000 between msrp and invoice. Most people don't even know about advertising fees, etc. and think there's more room than there actually is in reality

i actually have a 250 diesel going out this afternoon.  true story.

 

The 6.7's are a better engine.  they did actually figure out how to get better than 9 mpg like the 6.4's got.  i still dont know how the average person justifies buying a diesel truck unless they tow something heavy on a regular basis.  Diesel is what now, like a 10K option?  you would need to drive quite a bit to recover any savings on fuel over gas.  

 

I'm looking at making the switch to dodge trucks.  Really the only way i will get back into a Ford is if they start buying back our trucks at retail price.

There is some dealer holdback as well....my friend sells boats and there's much more fudge factor there. Another guy I know sells tombstones and he usually only gives discounts to rich people cause they are the ones who like to haggle. Most just accept the price.

 

My friend who sells tombstones recently had a customer who wanted to haggle. The stone was $4150 and the customer said can you do $4000 and salesman said sure right away. Customer wasnt even happy with th discount due to the salespersons quick response. The salesperson told me that he would have gone as low as $3500 so the customer left $500 on the table. Last I heard the salesman was rubbing $50 bills on his tittys

People also don't realize that dealerships actually purchase the cars from the manufacturer as well and the dealership usually finances these purchases. That means that every day that vehicle is sitting on their lot unsold they are losing profit on it. Granted there's a lot of help with this from the manufacturer and incentive programs etc as well. The manufacturer wants to keep the dealership happy no different than the dealership to the customer.

+2 A fellow coworker always buys used diesel trucks and has nothing but trouble with them.  Compared to the several trucks he has had to buy and the amount of repair work he has shelled out for, he would have saved money buying new.
