Its only November 16th and the real winter season hasn't started yet... Well I don't want to fucking hear it anymore... This up and down weather is cramping my style... If it would even stick to the long term averages then we would be skiing and riding at several mountains by now... Its cold a couple days, then warm a week... I am obviously going through some serious snowboarding withdraw right now... There is hope in the ten day forecast... If it holds then maybe some PA mountains will be open the first weekend in December... Maybe... Why does Northeast weather suck so bad right now!!!

everything worked well yesterday in regards to travel.  Ended up in a FWD RAV4.  Rode from 9-3 today.  Started with a top to bottom groomer off of chair  4.  It was great to rip a long run. Pic from the top:

The first two lift rides everyone was saying to head towards the back area so that’s what I did.   Spent most of my day on the north side which had much more winter-esque conditions. Did pretty much every groomed run off of chair 7 and 11.  Did a few woods runs between chair 11 and the resort boundary.  Not the best conditions in the woods, but still fun.

Headed over to hellroaring basin to check it out.  Did a long run down hell fire, Chet’s statche which was super bumped, and 1000 turns which was a fun little run.  Ended the day with a few top to bottom groomers on the front face, which was pretty slushy at this point.  It was unseasonably warm and I only wore an under armor and jacket shell, no liner.  Beautiful blue bird day though.  Awesome first day to be back out west!IMG_5811.thumb.jpeg.7a0743a9c90d11567fa512bdbaf8f415.jpeg

Anyone want to speculate on what the PA and NY areas are? I would want it to be Elk but think that it is more likely to be Montage. They need a reason for people to drive past the Poconos. I wouldn't expect it to be Blue/Camelback. They have enough crowds already. Ski Big Bear would be a possibility.

For NY I would I want it to be Plattekill. Not sure what other areas it could be.

I am sure you are all following weather topics. It’s bad out here, and I mean bad. Locals say they haven’t seen it this dry in decades. We had a bit of snow last week. Now we are in yet another high pressure pattern.

barely hugging the bottom line of averages. I personally am not motivated to ski at all. If XC conditions continue to be decent  I will most likely just do that locally. 
 

Winter may show up in mid Feb or March who knows. Latest I saw from Chris Tomer he said we are switching from La Niña to El Niño. He gave a snow total estimate in feet from Jan -May. Berthoud Pass is only predicted to have 6’ of total accumulation. Let that sink in, it’s terrible. Lots of locals are already writing this season off and going to Utah and Arizona to bike.

I’m here in Jackson hole with Atomic Jeff and Mute, NMSki and Dirtwolf arrive on Thursday. Flight from Newark was at 10:09am EST and me and atomic Jeff arrived at the Jh airport at 12:46pm MST.  Went to the 49er, rooms weren’t ready yet.  Back to the airport and picked up Mute from his Chicago flight.  Back to the 49er, Mutes room was ready and me and AJeffs not ready.  
 

We then went to the brewery for a late lunch and finally checked in. Gonna relax a little and then maybe have some supper.  It’s super warm in town, upper 30s and not much snow.  Looks like the mountain should ski well due to the 5-6 feet they’ve received the past two weeks.  Also some snow shower activity.  
 

Not many pictures so far, the cloud ceiling was low so I didn’t take any pics from the sky.

Atomic Jeff just booked airfare yesterday for Jackson Hole from January 24th-February 1st. This season from January 10th-30th at Jackson hole season passholders from any resort in the world get half price lift tickets. This will save us a couple hundred dollars. So far the upper mountain has received 64" and the lower mountain not much as they've been blowing alot of snow.

Planning to do some spring skiing this year but not sure what to expect. It looks like Whistler will be open longer this year due to the new Jersey Cream chair they will be building on Blackcomb. Should I expect the entire Whistler Alpine to be open during the spring season (aside from periodic closures for specific reasons)? Is there a high avalanche risk with the warmer temperatures? I assume it will be raining a good chunk of the time - is the key to just choose the days with no precipitation? Any spring skiing tips are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
