Thanks everyone, glad you are enjoying the content if it ever gets old or boring let me know. I will do one additional post on this pair and then I think it will be on to the next pair. This has been an awesome learning experience and I am really enjoying it a lot. Its fun to get creative!

Out of the press after a bunch of hours, I had the top sheet on this pair printed even though it is quite boring per my wife. I told her she can put anything on the next pair, hoping for some rocket ships. Top sheet right out of the press Bases right out of the press Next step is cutting out the individual skis, pretty much run the jig saw along the edge, just don’t cut the edge. The base is the only thing in the lay up that is the finish shape of the ski, so that is used for cutting the ski to shape. Cutting out the shape The final step before mounting and a tune is to bevel the sidewalls, I used the home made router table from a few posts ago with a bottom bearing 7 degree bevel bit. This puts a nice taper on the side walls and helps keep the top sheet from chipping while skiing. Final shape, I wanted to weigh them but I forgot before I put bindings on them. Stellar day, fun tour with Jeff to start it off. An early uphill lap always makes me feel like I did something besides drink beers with the boys. The early laps were great, lift lines got a little rowdy but that’s part of skiing Vail East. Let’s do that again before the end of the season, maybe with a few additional friends! Just dropped them off at the shop for a tune, know it all ski tech behind the counter gave me a good laugh while filling out the paper work. Ski tech: What brand and model skis are they? Me: ummmm, idk. Ski tech: most people around here dont know what kind of skis they have.. Me: ...........lol.........

I was mostly ready to press after adding the rabbet to the core, I just needed to cut some glass and carbon so I pulled the press out and pressure tested it to make sure I did not have any leaks. I hit about 30 psi and I could hear air leaking so I knew I had some work to do. I used wood to crimp the ends of the fire hose when I built the press mainly because wood is much easier to work with than steel. I guess it was not quite enough, so I put on my big boy pants and started cutting and drilling steel. Original crimp to close off the fire hose. The way it should have been done originally. So last pair I kind of skipped this step because I was very nervous about doing it, I was also nervous about doing it this time but figured I needed to figure it out eventually. In the tip and tail the sidewall ends up being about 1.5mm thick and it could easily rip off or break adding this rabbet. I built this router table with custom back stop to add a rabbet to the core to keep the bases of the skis flatter when they are pressed. If you scroll up a few posts you can see how the teeth of the edge are on top of the base, thats how they are attached and what keeps them in place. Adding the rabbit takes some of the pressure off the edges and keeps you from pressing edge high. Its kind of hard to explain maybe I will add a picture later. router table Router bit with back stop, so the sidewall is run down the backstop and the bit takes about .5mm of material off the bottom of the sidewall and a small portion of the base. a picture of the rabbet for reference. So life got a little busy, then it snowed and I wanted to ski tour so I took a bit of a break on working on these. They are now out of the press and deflashed. Im pretty sure I am going to have some issues on this pair but time will tell as I ski them I guess. Its a really fun and interesting learning experience for me. Shaped core, tip and tail fill with sidewalls before attaching anything. Attaching the sidewalls to the core, just some simple super glue and clamps. This shows the bottom of the core after the sidewalls have been attached, I used a new method to attach the core blank to the profiling jig and it worked out really well. Tape the bottom of the core, and also tape the jig and use super glue to glue the tape together, it easily comes apart which is critical when the core gets thin. Core blank glued on the profile jig. Core after it is profiled, on this pair the core is 8mm thick under foot and tapers to 2mm in the tip and the tail. The tip and tail fill that I buy is also 2mm thick so it all lays up very nicely. Hog wash, go to Alta and ski the High T to gun sight followed by the High T to HighBoy to end the day, then have a beer on the deck. The next day go to Bird and ski the Cirque to elevator then rats nest to hanging bowl on the next lap then go directly to the tram bar and order the local and tell everyone how rad you are. I got the edges glued on both bases last night, I should be starting on the cores tonight. To get to this point on the first pair I had about 12 hours into the skis, I have about 1.5 hours in total into this pair so far. The second pair is going so much better with all the things I learned from the first pair.

I can give you a phone number to call to pick up passes from the 7-11 at the bottom of BCC. Call said guy the night before, send him the money via Venmo and pick up the pass from the electrical box behind the 7-11 in the morning. You wont find a better deal.
