  1. Chair 1 (Chets) bumps kick ass if it is cloudy/snowy and power laps there will kick your ass. If the weather is nice, spend some time on the ridge since it has some of the coolest and most unique terrain anywhere. Grab a free ridge cat pass from the pass office, ski Super Nova and Velvet Hammer, hike off the cat and ski Marmot, 13010, Rock Chutes. Hike the other way off the top of chair 9 and ski Super Bowl and Wild Child. If you want a big air with a clean landing, hit Crack Rock in the middle of Super Bowl. Patrol Rock (which is in the picture I posted in the middle of patrol bowl) will likely be completely covered by that point. I am coaching on the 11th, but may be free-skiing there on the 12th and could possibly show you around if interested. If you have the opportunity, ski A-Basin as well. Pali, Steep Gullies and East Wall have some of the best terrain in Colorado.
  2. yeah, heres one of mine at loveland last weekend.
  3. Arapahoe Basin is only 90% open, so pat yourself on the back for being passionate about skiing and continuing to live in PA in the winter.
  4. Unpopular opinion time. Vail is operating these resorts very similar to blue ridge (prior to Peak). I think Blue Ridge technically still owns the resorts and they are operated under a lease agreement. In a way, vail is bringing JFBB back to their roots, while pumping in a ton of money. JF always used to open before BB when I was a kid. I think it is generally a good thing to focus on JF as it is by far a better mountain. Its nice to see some money put into these places. They were getting pretty tired. I, for one, am stoked that my childhood ski area (JF) has a pretty bright future under Vail. I get that park rats are disappointed, but it is what it is.
  5. I have skied road laps on the little hill below NCAR when I was in college during a giant upslope storm. Definitely stupid, but the road to Nederland and I70 were closed that day, so there was no getting to a ski area.
  6. JF is still the best ski area in PA. change my mind
  7. this article says 1946, and I was right it was the first in PA https://rootsrated.com/stories/the-history-of-skiing-in-the-poconos
  8. holy crap this is super cool! Thanks so much for sharing. Big Boulder has a very rich history. Its gotta be one of the oldest operating resorts in the state.
  9. LMFAO 🤣 I have been to Mexico as well. They are really going for the Mexican look. I hear Italy looks Italian as well. Who knew?!
  10. My thirteen-year-old and I got out on the citadel yesterday. This was a big deal for him and was his first true ski-mountaineering adventure.
  11. Close 😀 One drainage to the north of Mayflower (Humbug Creek) drainage.
  12. Getting some turns in on Saturday and social distancing. GREAT snow out there...
  13. JF is the best true skiers' mountain in PA. If you are too dumb to see that, that's on you.
  14. didn't Vail offer 2 times the market value of Peak Resorts?
  15. Naa, Camelback is better if you value groomers and quantity over quality. The off-trail skiing at jack frost is really unmatched in PA, and is the only skiing in the state that somewhat resembles what real skiing is like.
  16. It sucks when vail buys an already popular western resort, but I see this as being nothing but good for JFBB passholders. Its not like vail passholders are going to make the pilgrimage to jack frost to ski the elevator.
  17. Camelbeach rocks! seriously. don't listen to the naysayers.
  18. Why the heck would you go to Montage water park when you are closer to Camelbeach, which is one of the top water parks in the country?
  19. That big avy chute on Peak 1 (the tallest peak in your photo) is new and was created in early march during a 100-year+ avy cycle. They are calling it silent bob chute because the smaller one to the right is J Chute By the way, you are skiing in-bounds. In-bounds avalanches are extremely rare in the US. You would have a better chance of getting struck by lightening.
  20. zuma may not have corned up, but I promise you parts of Pali and North Pole are still wintery, chalky snow. I was just there Sunday and skied powder on the gullies and east wall with my kid You are in Colorado, and need to play the aspect game this time of year. I am a Loveland guy on convenience and lack of crowds, but the terrain doesn't hold a candle to the basin. Especially now with the steep gullies in bounds.
  21. Hike the north pole and drop into first notch or north pole. SHould still be cold winter snow up there. Hit up the steep gullies (SG1 has a traverse out to Pali about 2/3 of the way down so you dont have to hike out). Zuma cornice should be about good to go by now (corn) A-Basin rocks my socks. So glad they are off epic next year.
  22. Ill be at Loveland on Saturday, but I am coaching.
