  1. Sunday, a little Magic. Still love this place, but really want to hit it with more open.
above freezing overnight, so, some firm stuff with a little Blue Mountain type cookies, which softened up pretty fast. Very similar to last year as to what was open. A few groomed runs, and some fun spicy snow, grass, rocks with a few drainage pipe crossings mixed in. Got warm real quick, and that made the run outs real slow, and pretty grabby by 1 pm. Got to ride the black lift. Had a nice burger at the BLT. On the road now.

  2. Lacking in the trip report for sure.
Friday, killington.  Very firm to start. Cloudy. No crowds. Ski on every lift like skiitoolive.
We ended up on some trail, which should have been called “certain death” as it was the slickest, and most un-skiable trail i have been on in a while. People were eating shit on it hard and ending up in the grass. Skiing the frozen junky bumps on the side was better than doing the power slide in the grass.
sun poked out just enough to soften some stuff up. Not entire runs, but parts of runs.
    Killington has good coverage.

I would be pumped to see Elk show up on the Indy!

The only reason it will is because i did not renew. You are welcome.

  4. If its true, im still going with a kalahari type thing. Those lifts wont replace themselves. Gonna need to be a chunk of change thrown down soon for lift upgrades.

  5. Today was exponentially better than i thought it was gonna be. I almost had myself talked into not going hearing the wind overnight thinking it would be a hill full of ice.

i cant figure blue mountain out at all. The one day they knew it was gonna be max occupancy, they run one lift. Then they blow a whole bunch of snow 2 days before it monsoons, at the end of the season, and then they announce another weekend. I hope they wont make the lift mistake again, but i certainly do enjoy the extended season.

i could have sworn that they basically have a cooling system to get the water to a lower than pond temperature. maybe that has something to do with it.

also weather went from 'Heavy Rain' to just 'Rain' on sat. so thats good... i guess

Those big radiator looking things might be to cool the air for the guns.  when you compress air it gets incredibly hot, which kind of works against what the end goal is.

  7. whats interesting is last years closing day report.

way more open than what we skied Sunday.  I just cant for the life of me figure out what their motivation behind opening this weekend is.  I still dont think they care about being the last to close, and they wont take that title.  BB is going to be open.  will they sell tons of tickets?  we know the answer to that, and its no, it will be season passholders that show up.  Do they have too much frozen fried food they need to cook up?  did they already pay the employees to work this weekend?  someone reserved 76 parking spaces in the paid lot?

The return on snowmaking this week has to be horrible.  why try to patch something together now?  just a little bit more snowmaking on lower main in jan/feb would have made it skiable Sunday.

  8. i wonder what the story is these days with this place.

i remember it being built, and like never occupied, or occupied by a janitor/security guard.  I havent been there in years as well, but i never saw it occupied years after it was built.

  9. So, they have removed the "this wont be our closing day" from todays FB post

Also take note, you can buy your season pass today and ski free for the weekend.  Read that as, you can ski free this weekend, but not monday, and not next weekend, cause we aint gonna be open.

i really think they want to be last to close. even if that means having just vista open.

They have cared so little about being last to close in years past, i dont get it.  Or, maybe now that Peak isnt around to keep BB open, they want the cup.  whatever.  i think if they open monday, they have a good shot at claiming the cup.

The interesting thing is the Easter egg hunt is the 24th, and we think its on Vista.  Im not sure if skiing on Vista, and having some kids running around looking for eggs is a really spectacular idea, but it sure does kind of sound like something Blue might do.

temps aren't great next week for snowmaking, but the opportunity is there to squeak out one last wknd if they just patch up a run or two.

are any other mtns still claiming they'll be open after this wknd?

BB is throwing it in after this weekend.  JF is "we will see after this weekend"

And I don’t want them to close, I just want closure and to be able to make some plans for next weekend.

Skiing next weekend wont be worth the drive for me, imo.  This weekend is really just about Chili Mac on Sunday.

Other years they close with waaaaay more coverage.  i dont remember a year where they closed with like 4 trails open, barely holding on.  i mean, we have all skied some funny shit on some closing days, but in my recollection they have been over 50% open on the last day.  I dont how they are gonna patch the Titanic back together with some bubble gum and keep it a float.  Even i know when to give up.  i just dont understand their tactic here.

so it looks like the only way to lower main now is chute. that could get interesting.

it looks like lower main could be taking its last breath.

Todays report shows challenge is open, falls and lower sidewinder closed.  Is there some type of bridge i cant see from my house that gets you to homestretch?

I know they keep saying sunday isnt closing day, but what will they be able to cobble back together for next week?  i appreciate they dont want to throw in the towel, but they are really fighting an uphill battle.

  15. it interesting to me to see the specs of a lift like that.  a 500 HP motor is no fucking joke.  A Baldor 500 hp motor is about $75,000.

It would be interesting for find a price tag on it.  so much involved with getting rid of a lift.
