  1. The elevator last year was rough. It got some snow put on it, then it rained and froze. It wouldnt hold any kind of snow. It needed a hair cut bad last year, and from what i was told, there wasnt much maintenance there this year, supposedly the E glade needs cleaned out. I spent some time last year cleaning it out some, but its hard to do when shit you are trying to pull out is under several inches of man made. I miss skiing that stuff too, but i dont regret my decision to go to blue at all.
  2. ^^ off strawberry? If so, it looked ok, but we really didnt see many people hiking anything. They had snow last week, but monday/tuesday snow didnt yeild them much. We played around in a few trees but not much good in them. Some were straight up luge runs depending on how they face and tree density. It was a good day to put the legs in check. It was pretty hard to leave.
  3. Snowbird skied well today. A little snow overnight on top of what we got yesterday made for a pretty nice day. Spent most of the morning in Mineral Basin. We were skiing mostly off the Mineral Basin lift, we took a ride up Baldy lift right before lunch which offered up some nice trees and snow, but lead us around to an area where we had a drop of about 7-8' in order to get back to the lift. I fought with gravity and lost. I think i just over analyzed the situation. Dropped, landed, bounced to left and tumbled downhill a bit. In the process of doing this i wailed my knee on something. A little sore but everything is still functioning. Took lunch at the new fancy summit lodge. Pretty high end food when i was really just craving some ground up cow on a bun. Decided to ski the front side rather than just spending the whole day in Mineral Basin. Sometime around 1:30 or so Guitar and ski buddy Rob decided to take a hike off the Gad2 lift for some fresh turns. I opted out not knowing quite what the hike would really be like with the knee issue. It was quite a long hike, but they scored some great turns which i will let Guitar expand on as i think he has some pics as well. I skied some trails around the Gad2 and Gadzoom lift ducking in and out of some trees. Took a beer break, and met up with Guitar sometime after 3, and we started making our way back to the base lodge. Snow stayed pretty nice all day. Mineral Basin mid morning Somewhere around Gadzoom Somewhere on the mountain Basic scenery
  4. i wish things went differently on the 23rd
  5. Pretty sweet day at Alta. It snowed lightly all day long, mountains are reporting 5", and i dont think they use the Widowmaker ruler. Not a big time powder day by any stretch but most areas skied well all day. Ran the Collins lift for a few quick runs, before heading over to the Supreme lift. Lots of crunch under just a little bit of fresh snow. We found conditions over off the Sugarloaf lift much nicer. Hung out there until lunch. After lunch we took the traverse over to the Greeley area for a few runs, some really nice snow conditions over there, but visibility was really low for as lightly as it was snowing. Ended the day over off the Wildcat lift. I have skied Alta three times now, and the Wildcat lift never fails to deliver. Really nice powder on top of a soft base. Legs were feeling it after a few laps off Wildcat, so we called it a day sometime just after 3 pm. Nice little area off Collins I think this was in the Greeley Area Wildcat
  6. Supreme bowl. Early in the day. Dust on crust. Not one of the better areas today.
  7. It is pretty crowded actually. Crystal inn.
  8. A little powder goes a long way. Powder to the people...... Its been snowing lightly all morning amounting to 4 inches or so thus far. Its definetly a welcome site. Snow is supposed to continue lightly overnight. Lunch now, internet sucks so pics later.
  9. Headwall Forest Lift ride scenery photo
  10. Fun day at Solitude skiing with Guitar and a college buddy of his. Got to the mountain today to be surprised by a lengthy line at the Ticket window, about a 20 minute wait. Solitude was closed on Friday with a power outage from the winds. We took a few short runs before heading over to honeycomb canyon, took the high traverse a ways back and dipped in and out of the trees some back there. The snow was ok, its apparent they have been through a few cycles of warm weather which has really firmed up the base. Worked our way to the other side of the mountain, over to headwall forest and Evergreen. Some areas of deeper powder (like widowmaker snow) could be found in some of the more protected trees. Made a few runs of that, ran some more trails, and stopped for lunch. After lunch we went back to Headwall Forest, ran back through Honeycomb again, and ended our day skiing some trails off the Eagle Express lift where there were some real fun groomers with some nice snow on them. Seems like not too many people ski off that lift, and the trails over there were quite fun. The day started off about 26 degrees or so, but i would say by the time 1 pm rolled around it had to be 40 degrees under bright sun. The ticket line was nothing like the lift lines. there was never a wait at any lift. The snow was decent, and the terrain is fun at Solitude. There is some snow in the forecast for tomorrow afternoon/evening. Sounds like 4-6 inches. i have a few pics, but i cant upload them for some reason. try later. Honeycomb
  11. they throw these out right after Pres weekend. wouldnt be suprised if JFBB has put theirs up as well. This is a great deal for someone who doesnt currently have a pass, so i dont see how this can be taken as a kick in the pants to current passholders. This is the season that just barely materialized on the east coast. It is what it is. if you looking for something with a guarantee, there is always Elk.
  12. All this rain is gonna fuck up the pow on widowmaker for sure.
  13. light crowds, nice snow, winds picked up as the morning went on. i got cold.
  14. From your description of the hotel last week, you are probably better off with your microwave burrito.
  15. No breakfast being served at the Hotel....? ha ha ha
  16. they will soon figure this out though.
  17. Saturday for sure.......i might skip Sunday
  18. i had a discussion about these skis with Jeff, who suggested i get them tuned while in Utah, which i thought was a good idea, but the downfall to that plan is lugging a ski all the way out to Utah, that even after tuned may still want to try to kill me. Internet turned up that Blue has a pretty decent set up for tuning, and the reviews were good. I figured the only thing i had to lose was the cost of a tune. They told me my skis were "pretty jacked up". i would definitely use them again. Use your season pass....$45.
  19. Cold start, but not real windy so it turned out to be a pretty comfortable session. Pretty nice conditions today, or at least on 75% of each trail. seems like each trail had its own kind of weird quirk. NM/DW was real nice except for one really slick spot right in the middle of the trail, and even though i knew about where it was, i always ended up gravitating right towards it. Razors was sweet, except for the middle of the first 1/3 which was cookied up pretty good, and a few random snow boulders to avoid just below the razorback cut off. They mowed down the bumps on Challenge, which i'm a fan of, but again the first 1/3 of challenge was pretty chunky. That seemed to be the theme for most trails, cookies were avoidable, so overall conditions were good. Trees by lazy and main street where pretty nice, wish they would open some more up, but i give them props for blowing in the trees like they did. Pre boot up i dropped off a pair of skis at the shop to get tuned. i got them tuned up pre-season, but they have been trying to kill me every time i skied them....just super twitchy and wanted to knock me over anytime i put them on an edge. The Blue tune straightened all that out, and they feel great. Pic.
  20. Why would someone spend the time to cut the lock on a pair of skis when there are literally hundreds of pairs unlocked ready for the taking? 2 ski checks at Blue.

i do know someone who thinks that because they live close to a lake, (like 4 blocks) that they get more snow in their yard than people that live further from the lake. the lake was also frozen at the time they made the comment. Good stuff.
  22. I should be up Friday am as well. Usually i park in Jeffs spot, you know, just to see how it feels.
  23. Frost can be alot of fun, but the stuff other than the trails has to be in play. Otherwise, it will close in on you pretty quick, and get kind of boring. Years ago, Phillycore made a push for them to clean up the elevator and open it back up. They cleaned it up, cleared out some trees above it, and it was really good for like the first two years. seems like as the years wore on, stuff like that sort of got neglected. the elevator needs a haircut, and i spent some time last year cleaning out the E glade. They blew snow on top of huge branches, rather than spend a little time before hand to clean them out. In a year where we get good snowfall, there are lots of trees to play in, Gonzo's grind, Mad tree glade, and off of Telstar. For the life of me, i cant figure out why they just give up on T-bolt glade, and just keep challenge glade in really good shape. T-bolt glade needs a crap load of snow to cover up the boulders that are in there, and i've seen a bunch of people get hauled out of there in stretchers. In really good snow years, Frost can be tons of fun. there really is some more area there to explore.
