  1. So, my family is considering buying a condo. Right now we are looking pretty intently at Sugarbush. It is the most affordable, has decent terrain variety, and good snow. We looked at Killington since it is a little closer to home, but the condos were more expensive, not in as good as shape, did not have as good accessibility, and the fees and taxes were outrageous. I understand there are special assessments and that is an added cost, but the condo at the Bush was significantly cheaper, fees are about half as much, and taxes comparable. Plus I will be in the MRV which gets considerably better snow. It is also only about 40 minutes or so from Stowe if I want to head up that way. What are your thoughts? We may be able to get a condo soon if it is at the Bush, but if it is elsewhere, we may have to wait several more years... I'd like to get the most use out if it while I am young... Lets hear it... I'm especially interested in what Doug has to say since he went to school up there... I have been to the Bush so I know what the terrain is like. Not the greatest, but definitely enough to keep me interested, especially when I can travel to those other areas close by... Thanks...
  2. Do we have any further information on what the "improvements" will be this year? Since they flat out refuse to bring their website into the 21st century and don't update the one they have, I usually don't hear what the improvements are... However, I know that the season pass holders get an update/advertisement brochure every year that lists the improvements... Has anyone gotten this yet?
  3. Have the condos been approved and have they applied for their new lift permits yet? I don't know how many condos they are planning on, and I don't know how much capital these new guys have left... I mean, they were having problems just a year after they took over and they have been pouring money into the waterpark... I hate seeing resorts bite the dust so I'm hoping they can pull it off... But if they have increased skier visits 30-50k in 3 years, I would say that is some major progress...
  4. If you have come to grips with the drive and price of the pass, then the biggest detractor is going to be the uncertainty of the season. While they have a much colder climate than the rest of the Pokes (since they are actually in the "Endless Mountain" region), they dont have as big a customer base so their opening and closing dates are uncertain. Your definitely not going to get the longest season in NEPA in, even though they could easily pull that feat off... Look for the mountain to open around the second weekend in December and close the Third weekend in March. I have seen the season start the first weekend in December and go through the first weekend in April before though... Not sure if they have ever posted a November opening...
  5. Agreed... But I'll take its climate and crowds over any other resort in NEPA no questions asked... Definitely unlike most of the other experiences...
  6. Insane and worth it Doug... I wouldn't mind seeing some more press and action here from our fellow PASRs... Maybe we will get some more steezy TRs... I'll definitely be coming up to tour a couple times this upcoming season... Elk has a special corner of my hear reserved just for it...
  7. As I was looking at PASR this afternoon, the Blue Mountain Construction thread caught my eye. This being said, does anyone here foresee the ACTUAL possibility of large scale terrain expansion anywhere in the Pocono region? Since Camelback and Elk both added new lifts and trails in 1994, most of the terrain changes seem to be a single trail here or there on the same footprint of the existing mountain area. Will anyone actually expand the mountain area, or will we continue to see infrastructure improvements with lift replacements, snowmaking upgrades, building upgrades, and a single trail or two being added? What are your thoughts?
  8. I am looking at buying a pair of K2 bindings, but I haven't dealt with K2 before, so I have no idea what the sizing is like. I wear a size 12 Burton boot (small footprint) and I have Large Burton Custom bindings on my other 2 boards. The K2 website says that L bindings fit 8.5-11 boots... Do I really need to get an XL binding?
  9. Just picked up the K2 Believer I bought off Rome... Hoping to snag some K2 Formula bindings to round it out...
  10. Yeah, both Billabongs...
  11. I bought a couple of pairs of Large Billabong pants last year and they were great... This year I bought two pairs of Large pants, but they are about 2 inches longer than last years... I'm 99% sure I did not buy Tall Pants, so I was wondering if this seems to be a general shift in pant sizes. Any thoughts?
  12. Yes, I am a Burton slut... My first board was a Rad-Air, and I loved it, but I haven't been able to find any lately... I am also buying Rome's K2 this year and will be fitting it out with K2 bindings... Just a certain comfort zone with Burton... Not to mention, I dont buy any of them full price, so it usually works out fine for me...
  13. Just snagged a Burton Poacher jacket on ebay as a shell and a Burton Malolo off of Porter's Tahoe... I was going to buy some Burton Cartel EST off of the Burton website since all of last years models were 30% off, but they switched over to the 2011 models today, so I don't think that is going to happen
  14. Wow Root, this is very unlike you... Has the wife put you on a budget or are you just losing your tough in your old age?
  15. I just picked up a pair of Burton Gore-Tex Under Mitts off ebay... I currently have a set from 3 years ago and love them... I'll probably be picking up Rome's Believer and a Burton Malolo to add to my quiver by the end of the summer too... Other than those additions, I may add some pants if I find a pair on sale or a traveling board bag... Other than the boards though, there isn't much on my needs list... Start the convo and start the stoke!!!
  16. Its a shame we can't score something like this at any other mountains... I would definitely get a nights only pass or something to Blue if it were in the $250 range... Why only bear creek? GSS, get on this and show Blue we are worthy through our representation...
  17. I haven't skied since I was 7 my first day on the snow ever. 7 years later I picked up snowboarding and have done it for the last 10 years... However, I was thinking of trying out skiing as a 2nd discipline... Any thoughts there either?
  18. Glad to see you were slightly motivated for the weekend... Glad it turned out swell... I would have done way more of the drinking on the couch than the driving to BJ's and grilling part... Well done... All I had were some steak and potato's on the regular grill yesterday... Still tasty though...
  19. Can we get years on the boards? And what size are the bindings? My friend rides a Believer and I like using it... A friend of mine may be interested depending on the model year...
  20. Were their skier visits up? Are they finally making some headway on reviving the ski area? I am interested to see if the fruits of their labors are paying off... I know we were all pretty skeptical about the plans/finances of the mountain in recent years, and I was wondering if they were finally getting to where they want to be...
