It looks like Blue is gonna be open next week during the week but only until 4pm…

edit: night skiing on Friday, closing at 4pm Monday to Thursday.

All they'll have next week is NMDW, Razors and Burma. Lazy looks good in the middle so far, but I doubt the bottom part will survive.

We'll be up tonight since Blue's closed the next two days SAD

Damn... Just why?? Tomorrow it rains only in the morning, and on Wednesday in the afternoon. Wednesday morning would be great, and they'd have plenty of time to groom before it.

  3. It was pretty good today, albeit a little crowded. An event with racers continuously going up and down the Quad side didn't help.

Somewhat surprising is how well the mountain is holding up, especially after the yesterday's report of bare spots - no bare spots today, not even brown spots on Sidewinder, there wasn't even a hint of spring, so white and cold it was. Still I think that earlier this week conditions were better, softer and more pleasant to carve. Today most of the morning it was riding on a frozen base, rattling on small hard bumps and holes left from wet grooming, and was there even a field of blue ice at the very bottom of Paradise?

Lazy was clearly the worst with its minefield closer to the sharp right turn, and after trying all the trails several times I eventually settled on Widowmaker->Midway->Main being the best route down. Not crowded, not frozen, nice snow, less people to get back on the lift.

  4. I'll never see those $5. Someone must feel lucky (myself?) that I didn't raise a ticket after seeing nothing but a SOS on my phone in the parking lot that morning. Damn, what I didn't do... Begged for a paperclip at the customer service, converted SIM to an eSIM. Rebooted the stupid phone and whacked it a few times. Luckily for me, there seems to be a marginal WiFi zone at the Quad base, so whatever short time I was spending while turning around was enough to download pending messages.

  5. Oh, I wholeheartedly agree. I shouldn't be saying it before wrapping up and driving back tomorrow, but BM felt to be at its prime at the end of last week. If you're not on the slopes, you're totally missing out. Damn, I feel like it will be a struggle tomorrow between wanting to stay an extra hour and being pressed in Teams. I just hope that AT&T won't have another bad day...

  6. I'll curse them if they don't make it into April. At least, this is my plan, and they'd better abide by it.

But you've got to admit, they had a tremendous come back after a pretty lousy and depressing start this year. Jeez, that Paradise opened so late and hardly half of its usual width. Now it's thick and wide, and they stashed mounds of snow on NMDW. I anticipate a lovely and crowdless March. Best time of the year.

  7. Can't believe it still looks like winter on the mountain. When I skied it last week, seeing all the rain in the forecast, I was sure that it would be the end of it. Tomorrow's a must, looks like!

  8. Nah. When crowds are manageable and snow is good (as it was on any of the recent weekdays), MC is much more interesting to explore than BM or CB, both of which feel more compact and offering repetitive skiing, often just looping the same couple of trails that happen to be good today. If I lived 45 minutes away from MC, I'd absolutely get a pass there.

  9. Meh, they like to overextend their season. I skied MC a few times late in March when they really should've closed already. It was all dirt and slush. Connectivity between peaks is often an issue too.

But yeah, I saw their post with big yellow guns. It would be cool to see improved snow making. And I don't think that shorter season is their fault. It's just a little warmer in that area than in Poconos, and that makes some difference.

  10. Yesterday's sale at MC was quite a show. They first released only 1000 passes, and it completely blew up with people unable to checkout for hours, going in circles and complaining on FB. Then they added another 1000 passes, wiped out the initial FB post with bitching comments and replaced it with a new "we know that a lot of you missed on the sale" one. And the new round of comments is nothing but praises.

$279 is a good price, no doubts about it. The catch is the usual one - they have shorter season and less reliable snow than BM or CB.

  11. I'll disagree about Sidewinder. It was great and overall in better shape than yesterday - softer and with no frozen bumps. Smooth flying all the way down. Rollers were there indeed, but that just contributed to the fun ride as the lighting was adequate. Despite considerable cloudness it wasn't hard to make your way, and lack of people plus extreme width of trail just made it a real pleasant trail overall. Same as Paradise for that matter.

Lazy on the other hand had stupid fresh/soft/slow snow on top and fast crumbs about halfway down. One pass was enough for me. Switchback didn't impress, it was somewhat scraped in spots. Other trails didn't really stand out, I barely rode them once each.

Less people than yesterday despite the race, and despite my initial fears, racers weren't overtaking Quad at all, as they tend to do.

Seniors skiing is actually saving the sport right now.  They’re the people with the most money and free time.

And cheapest passes. Heard a couple complain today that their pass got a $20 raise to $80 something. Hope they won't have to pull extra money out of their IRAs to pay for it. Otherwise they may need to pay income tax on it as well, which may make skiing totally unaffordable for them.

Out for an hour this morning. Tried to find a decent slope. Freefall and  DW/NM wasn’t awful, but then you had the sugar on Paradise to deal with. Best slope was the Falls. Groomers ripped up Razors. Definitely wasn’t feeling the love this morning.

Should've stayed longer. True, some trails were sugary, but Lazy was great all the time, and even hero snow later in the morning. Hardly any people. Is it spring already??

One day last season I was skiing paradise alone and some boomer was hogging the trail and on the second corner when he was going wide left I snuck to his right…he saw me but decided it was the time to go all the way across…so I put on the brakes and he legit almost went back uphill right into my skis…he fell I didn’t cause I’m an agile mofo except in ski area bathrooms and crossing streets in ski towns.

I hate passing 'cause I can never time it properly, esp. if someone goes edge to edge, or if that someone is on a board who's moving like some brownian particle. What I lately found works the best is the contrarian approach. You aim to hit the guy, and by the time you get close, he'll invariably make another turn and clear the way.

  15. I kinda from time to time want to ask... Do you ever speak in court? And if or when you do, and if you speak the way you write, is the judge as surprised as the BMR you're passing on slopes?

Did everyone download the Camelback app?? Blue Mountain doesn't have an app. This is radical! The app gives gapers I mean "Pros" some tips on how to navigate around the resort to get from their New York City condos to the perder. I'll be long long gone before they arrive thanks to being a VIP with First Traax.

What's even more radical is that Camelback has girls in bikinis any day you want them. You just have to ski to the express on the far end and then walk the long corridor to the surfing area. Best resort in Poconos!
