1. Excellent train spectating on the looooooong drive to Taos, NM.
2. Haters gon' hate. Glad to see you're still alive Douglas; stunned that almost 40k posts is a thing...
3. Just dropped a mad smash to get into my backcountry weight for PowMow on Thursday. Feelin' another one comin' on in a minute. Beeyah! ^ first gear purchase of 2014-2015!
4. I have a Sector 9 Pintail I'd sell for like $50. Think I put new trucks on it like 4-5 years ago. Haven't ridden it since college.
5. Anyone post this yet? http://www.serfassconstruction.com/projects/view_projects/summit_splash I've seen the flags along the top lodge access road but I'm still kinda surprised how close to the road the waterpark looks in the renderings...
6. kinda interested in the air but would have to move my current macbook/iPad and some other stuff in order to make it happen... probably wouldn't happen until mid-February so don't wait but if you still have it then consider me interested...
7. I have a Burton Feel Good ladies snowboard just sitting around. Brand new with the stickers still on the bases. I have no idea what year the board is, but it is definitely a few years old. The topsheet has some small scratches on the bottom from being stored, and the base has dried out after a couple years. A good wax and it would be in new condition. Board is 156cm long. Looking for any reasonable offer, someone needs this more than me!
8. The BRZ is the fun result of a Toyota/Subaru collaboration. You can get a pretty good understanding of the 'why' behind the car by reading what the majority of the automotive press has said about it. Basically their hype is that for the money it is one of the best driver's cars available. They used a Cayman throughout testing and development as the benchmark for the car. You don't have to like it, but personally I've had a blast driving it and just about everyone I've spoken with who has driven one has really enjoyed it (almost every dealer I've spoken with will not let customers test drive it unless they've got money down on the car; interested in where Dan drove one...). Yes its not purely a Subaru and there are a number of other things one could criticize on it, but at the end of the day its another fun car on the market pushing other manufacturers to make similar cars - and thats fine by me. Chris Harris has a first drive vehicle (I enjoy most of his vids): Two development vids that explain the engineering and development behind the car:
9. STI = torsen diff front and rear with a driver controllable center "diff" (multiple settings between 50-50 locked to 60-40 split; depends on the year of the STI but in the past it was able to get closer to 70-30 split rear to front) BRZ = Torsen ltd slip rear diff carry on....
10. Uhhh yup thats what we saw... edit: Doug great job posting the vid, that was your greatest contribution to this site. ever... + points to you.
11. So I was in Jackson last during the winter '98-'99 season. Unfortunately I didn't ski during this pass-through, just stayed a night in Jackson, WY with the fam and then did a day of snowmobiling in Yellowstone, which was pretty sick and I'd recommend. I might do it again, we'll see... Jackson Hole is unlike any place I've ever skied. Whistler has over a mile of vert, but its not Jackson vert. This place is steep from top to bottom. I'm not a convert from Utah, but Jackson is still somewhere I'd like to return to as much as possible. Today was the first day I haven't skied open to close, went to Mangy Moose for apres at 2:30 and worked on the goggle tan after a hike up the headwall and a few tram laps. The weird thing about this place over Utah is that I really want to come back here, but it would be about a thousand times better with a backpack full of the appropriate gear and a thorough backcountry knowledge, neither of which I have. Maybe its because I've been to Utah so much, but I feel like its easier to find the good stuff quickly in order to put more laps on it. Going through the gates is tempting as sh*t, but after basically standing on top of a huge fracture as it happened the other day it is pretty easy to just stay inbounds. Its weird that this mountain feels small compared to many of the places I've been in Utah. I can ski most of Brighton in a few hours, but I love the place. Jackson feels the same way. The other problem with the vert is that much like Whistler, your snow at the top is amazing and the bottom is knee-twisting mashed potatoes... I kinda like the top-bottom pow runs at Pow-Mow, Bird, Alta, etc... I know it happens, but fortunately I've never run into rain-mix in Utah. TGR was filming Corbet's today. That was sick. Just stuff I've been musing over...
12. Darn if I knew they were gonna shorten the course I woulda stuck around and filled in for Travis... One look at lower Razors and I had no interest, that was a great call on their part to shorten the course.
13. That'd be awesome JL! Let me/BMT know... AH I'll let you know if I don't pull the trigger, but REI has a pair of Black Diamond boots for $340ish that seem like a decent deal on Outlet. Unfortunately you never know when they're gonna do the additional 20% off, because that brings them down into the $230 range, which is a smokin' deal. I'm kinda hoping to have some kind of setup together by next weekend, but we'll see...
14. Anyone have tele boots 25.5 or 26.0 they aren't using and want to get rid of? Trying to free the mind...
15. Line Bacons are indeed the tits. I had last years, which I haven't skied more than 3 runs because it was a hard pack day at Blue. This years ski is just so much more versatile its amazing. Aside from park skis and the 165 RX8s I used for beer league a couple years back, I've pretty much been on something 92mm or wider for the past 5 years. When the Big Troubles first came out, it was an awesome feeling ripping down Razors and being able to lay tracks through and over just about anything as Law noted. Hopefully getting on some of next season's stuff next week... Used my Giro Seam yesterday for the first time. Fortunately no photos of the Phillycore variety and I think the helmet is okay, but definitely had a minor concussion which peaked yesterday evening. I'm sold on helmets with a vent switch, so much nicer than switching pads in and out.
16. yep. new favorite phrase. total titty sparkles = my mom cared enough to send a cases worth of Southwest Airlines free drink coupons in the mail, timing it sooo perfectly that they arrived today. should start making mothers day plans now... after getting Utarded.
17. Nice! A mode of transport that makes J-Burg not boring!
18. I'd rather die skiing than coming out of a bar in Philly... Been a pretty tough week after the beating death of my friends boyfriend in Old City last weekend. Can't wait to get up into the mountains, snow or not...
19. Who needs ski gear when b-ball shorts do the trick? Saw three people rockin' them at Frost on Friday...
20. Lazy was yikes. Glad to hear stupid sharp edges didn't make a difference and it wasn't just me...
