  1. 50 years ago my dad photographed the Freedom Train for the bicentennial when it came through Bethlehem. I'm sure if he would have been even more excited to see UP Big Boy if he was still around

Sadly, none of these rails are active and have been torn up and passenger service left the valley a few years later.

if im reading the schedule right, its going from NY to Nesquehoning Saturday June 13th.  Then from Nesquehoning to Pittston Sunday.  so to me it seems like either sat or sunday you could see it.  and i guess the glen onoko parking lot is in this area, that looks like a great place to see it.  from what i can tell you would be really close to it.

I would expect that lot to be pretty packed - not just for this event but a normal weekend there is always mobbed. I am trying to figure out best place to see it too. I am pretty excited about it

Killington is skiing great today. Lots of open unique trails for April.

how many unique runs? is it as many as the new Mecca camelback? can I park my police cruiser slope side?

Wait, 11 distinctly unique TTB runs, or just distinctly unique runs?  Im getting so confused.

Damnit I don't know.. I just know Camelback is now the best place to park my police cruiser in the east.

Down to just the Sullivan lift for rest of season - still provides a nice diversity of terrain with a steep ungroomed run (PA’s Superstar), a mile long blue cruiser, a groomed black and terrain parks. See what of that they can keep going 5 more weeks.

Still 11 distinctly unique runs. AMAZING.

@GrilledSteezeSandwich this is grate! Now there's an app that @Ski2Live Live2Ski can use to analyze detailed quantitative metrics to assess the cost effectiveness of purchasing a season pass.

Another ingenious idea is that ski goggles with a HUD to show Ski2Live how much money each nanosecond on the snow is costing in real time would be sick bird!

This is actually a pretty interesting feature. I enjoy data like this.

  7. Good seeing you all today even if I didn’t get to ski some runs with everyone. I didn’t partake in food/beverage festivities since I didn’t bring anything to contribute but Enjo always puts out a showcase and based on what I saw today I believe that to be true once again. Shockingly great coverage for the end of March and premier spring conditions.

That's not actually that crazy,  the most important thing for snow in terms of skiing is the formation of the nucleus. Super small dust particles are often the move but if you get something better you can do crazy numbers and %. The great salt lake was this way before they drained it..... to work for blue though i think the zinc mine would need to be in like Harrisburg though

That explains the inconsistency with the Beltzville Buoy this year.

Montage also closed til Thurs and Big Bear, Bear Creek, Roundtop, Spring, Liberty, Whitetail are not opening again

Mon-Wed the PA options are JF and CBK.

Thunderstorms and 60s tomorrow and likely rain next Saturday so we will see who actually reopens among Elk Montage and Blue.

Blue will be open you’re crazy.

They did refund me which was cool. Still intrigued by catamount. Decisions ..

This is the right call on their end which is surprising that they actually did it. I'll give you a refund in DG gift cards if you go to Catamount and don't like it.

Hmm. I’m intrigued. Would knock a new place off of my list. Lift tix are $30. But 3 hours and 15 min? Worth the drive?

idk I think you would like it there. The 3 hour drive can be a turn off but throw on some U2 and you're good to go. It is definitely a change from Blue but you'd have a Beautiful Day. The allure of a new place is always nice too. They have a nice lodge to boot up in and hang out with a bevy when you need a break and an Unforgettable Fire pit which is almost always blazing. Every time I have been there the lift lines were minimal and you could just Walk On. The trails are unique and the front face steeps are pretty legit and might give you Vertigo for a 1000' mountain. And, as you know, lift tickets are reasonable..

I want to ski somewhere on the 19th. Was thinking about frost..Everything east of Lehigh appears to be closed. And they’re charging $65 for the ticket. No thanks. Was thinking about hunter… hunter north and hunter west are closed. Main mountain appears to have one or 2 runs from the top. $109 and 3 hours in the car for that…no thanks again. Why won’t vail do spring discounts like the rest of the world?  Platty is closed so that’s a no. idk….maybe I’ll slum it at elk, Greek or Belle. Want to go somewhere not named blue for a change of scenery

    Catamount?

But like you said, its kinda short runs.  Solitude clearly doesnt flow like Brighton does.  And honeycomb, i guess we skied it wrong or it was broken that day, cause it didnt jump out to me as a must repeat.

I think that is correct. Sorry Honeycomb was broken while you were there. It has been up and running both times that I've been there, luckily.
