Everybody is seeing the light and the light is TS

Blue absolutely is part total junk show. They have one of the least talented general crowds around. But blue is really a country boy that moved to the city, he fell into a job in porno when everyone realized he had a 12 inch dick. They particularly in the past succeed almost in spite of themselves. Elk is the same dude but his parents were richer and he can't stop telling everyone about it.

Fuck yeah PSIA would vastly improve my short game, Jeff is far superior when it comes to carved turns. That's not my point at all, I'm saying that shit is great but it's one tiny part of the pie.

Skiing is a symphony, the fucking number of things that need to occur in order to ski is likely infinite. Air pressure, specific physical properties of water, 4d space time or gravity. Human shit like materials Science, industrialization, manufacturing, electrical production, billions of people doing exactly what they are supposed to everyday. Thousands of muscles all firing in perfect synchronization with my brain to make constant tiny adjustments based on fluid in my ear in a system we call balance.

All that fucking shit so my mostly ignorant hairless monkey self can ride two tiny pieces of metal around a curved area of frozen water at 50mph.

That shit is fucking nuts and it's alot more than edge purchase and turn shape. It's the solitude of click clack skis, its the unbridled adventure of bc skiing, it's flying like a mother fucking bird in park skiing and powder.....dude powder skiing is quit your job and live in the woods type shit. There are no tennis bums or dudes washing dishes and working construction 15hrs a day all summer so they can play hacky sack when winter finally arrives. Powder is floating in a 3d column of water, deep pow is a religion.

I wanna see it all, the good, the bad, I want to be as good as I possibly can in all aspects but nobody but particularly PSIA is going to define this experience for me.

One of the reasons why I couldn't teach anymore was because of the my dick is bigger than yours mentality amongst the PSIA 2s and 3s. The training and critique totally takes the fun out of sliding down the mountain with an ear to ear smile on my face, which is all I want to do. I didn't want to focus on my ankle flex. I wanted to jump into the trees or ski with my buddies having fun on East mountain. Some people are cut out for that shit. Others aren't. I look at all of the idiots on this site and see some damn good skiers doing what they love. That's what matters.

Some people just have to measure/quantify everything. While a PSIA guy might look at me and see a total mess, I laugh because there's nobody having more fun than me. Of course, to each his own, if measuring "skill" is what somebody likes I'm not gonna hate either.

What is PSIA?

Anyway, I like Elk, but 've skied there exactly 1 day and it was after a big dump last year.  The lifeline trail had some untracked powder and natural bumps, that bump trail had natural formed bumps that were actually the closest I;ve seen in PA to an ungroomed VT trail, there were two other un-groomed trails that were pretty good, and you know, the place had more of a mountain feel to me than blue.

But again, it's easy to love a mountain if you hit the conditions right.

In terms of getting that 'on the mountain' feeling, blue doesn't really deliver for me.  I always feel a little bit like I'm skiing at the mall.  There were a couple of uncrowded, snowy days this year that felt different, but I don't know...JF makes me feel more like I'm in the woods than blue.  CB of course is the worst for this.  Was there last year with youngest daughter and watched two russians taking belts from a whisky bottle in front of the waffle shack, fall down drunk at 2PM.  Kind of kills the sense of outdoor adventure, you know....

Anyway - have to get some work done so I can blow out of work and catch up with friends at Stowe.....long drive ahead...

Let's say you were open minded enough to venture into an expert level event PSIA... holy fuck what a mistake that would be because all of a sudden the whole shebang, all of it, everything you love about skiing will be tattooed and stamped and completely defined by PSIA.  All of a sudden, you would no longer be able to enjoy POW and your face would be slapped back and forth by big swinging dicks at every turn.

The truth is, like any experience, it is what you make of it.  It would only serve you in enhancing the infinitely many ways the symphony of skiing is conducted, not just the short game, all of it.  It makes POW no less enjoyable and you'll even meet some good people.  Some dicks, too, but what the hell?  How is that different than any situation in life?

Open-minded skepticism is a good thing and I'm all for it, but I see a lot of closed-mindedness on this topic.  You may not know it but we need organizations like PSIA.  The future of the sport depends on new skiers and who deals with that?  Glen Plake recognizes this and even was humble enough to take a level 1 PSIA exam.  US ski team and USSA recognizes this and has been building a partnership with PSIA.

PSIAis Professional Ski Instructors of America. I think you have to be a member of their organization and wear a pin to be an instructor. You also have to take tests to advance from one level to the next and as you get to higher levels you get paid more. From what I remember reading instructors make about minumum wage at level one and level two instructors make about one dollar an hour more and level three instructors make like $10 an hour but more for private lessons plus tips. Plus they get free season passes and discounts on gear. Like 90% of lessons around here are for beginners so they spend alot of time on flat trails yelling pizza and French fries. They also usually get discounts on pizza and French fries.

You can learn all the PSIA stuff without having to be an instructor right??? If you have the cash. Working for a ski area and taking time out to help noobs seems like a drag. So I'm guessing people can take the PSIA clinics the instructors take if they just pay for it.

I've never cared about a mountain experience vs being at the mall or whatever. I've never thought blue was like being at the mall. Skiing for me has always been about the thrill and adrenaline of going fast. I've never really cared about the views or nature and that sort of thing.

There are enough freaking skiers we don't need anymore!!!!!!

Anyway I'm guessing alot of people just learn from their friends. I took a first time on skis lesson at big boulder in 4th grade but knew what I was doing cause I was a rollerskater. Then when I skied again in 6th grade I took another lesson but me and my friend left the lesson midway through cause we wanted to ski more and in the lesson we kept stopping. That's been it for me and I'll never take another lesson but I hate people telling me what to do.

That's one thing I love. Being outside and being in nature. There is nothing like hiking to a remote area of a mountain and staring off to distant peaks. The only sounds you hear are a few birds, your own breathing, and the pop of a beer.

I love nature. I love being outside. And I love skiing.

Quick anecdote... I remember during one training session we were required to do "whirlybirds".. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure how that is supposed to make me a better skier. The only thing it made me was a douche. I want to ski with the level 3s at snowbird and have them show me how to ski the Cirque like a baller.

How long were you an instructor??? Can you demenstrate a whirlybird sometime??? Sounds gayer than a bowl of dicks in soy milk.

Any reason in particular you didn't ask the clinician how it is supposed to make you a better skier?  The fact you didn't is on you.

Meh. I really didn't care about it from a personal standpoint. It was my first season teaching and I wanted to learn how to teach people to ski, not be taught myself. It was that way for the few seasons that I instructed. Training was never my thing. Not because I'm so vein in thinking that I'm that great of a skier. More so because I wanted to just ski and have fun... Not work on wedge christies.

Isn't it also about being a better teacher??? I sometimes do one leg drills on tuts lane...mainly cause it looks cool. Did you teach Matt Edge the thing where he puts his poles behind his back?? He just grinds yeah grinding grinding grinding.

Being an instructor sounds miserable.

It's crazy how many crappy skiers are instructors.

That's not what I'm saying at all, PSIA has a purpose, there is great utility in PSIA, they are an integral part of the sport.

I would take a PSIA course and in the other thread talked about doing Tuesday night clinic. I would have lots of fun doing it.

My point is that's all great but it's not what the sport is about, its a vehicle to get to what the sport is about.

Historically the shit PSIA is interested in was part of the stagnation of skiing in the 90's, rigid dogma, intense focus on technical aspects without recognition for all the other shit skiing is actually about. Park skiing, something PSIA had/has pretty much ignored was what brought the sport back, it's whats driving the youth growth and the difference between park skiing and PSIA stuff is readily apparent to anyone.

I'm not dissing PSIA, I'm saying statements like they have PSIA level 1000 shit at elk means almost nothing to me. They have no more meaning than any other random group because PSIA and JL aren't interested in the same things.

Also in case you haven't noticed by now don't take things here very seriously my favorite past time here is to twist panties.....

I hear ya man, you'd still have a good time at Elk if we went, though;)

Doug, you surely shouldn't find a PSIA instructor yelling pizza and French fries outside of the children's center.

The training that I received had both a professional as well as a personal skiing focus. You only get out of it what you put into it.

Who is in your training group also comes into play when it comes to appropriate feedback. If those offering the feedback aren't on point than you can get mixed results.

The larger the group the worse it seems to get. A good trainer and 4-6 same level skiers and you can get some really good feedback.

There's a lot of variables just like in skiing itself.

Visual learning

Learning by feel

Cognitive learning

Snow conditions

Terrain

Equipment

The skiers own variables as well...

Etc...

Open Mind, willingness and drive to improve makes a ton of difference...
