Headed up to JF this morning for an hour of skiing before the trail got too crowded. Good snow conditions on One Park. A few small features on the top third, but you could open up your turns after that. Skied from opening at 8:30, started getting a little crowded about 9:15, and left a little after than when a lift line started. Had my Carv batteries charged today, unlike yesterday. Carv app totally changed for this year. Looks like good improvements.

Skied with the grandkids and family. Conditions were pretty good, although a few trails on the east side were still not open. Fairly crowded, everyone having a good time. Would have been nice if both lifts on the beginner side were staffed instead of just one at a time - 10 minute lift lines.

We were at Big Boulder for the previous post. Staff very friendly, and there were a ton of instructors on the west side, and the race team had whiskers on half of the Big Boulder trail.

Exhibition and Thunderbolt also not open. Apparently they are in no great rush to open slopes.

That seems to be the case at all of the Fail resorts. Way behind the competition in a year with great early snowmaking weather.

But then they already have your money.

They did it last year too, and probably the year before.  they have one speed for snowmaking (slow) after they open onepark, frosty, and what ever other little green trails they open with.

Even when Peak would open BB first, more often then not JF was 100% for this week.  Frost isnt that big.  i doubt they have any constraints with water since they pull from the crick.  December has been great for snowmaking.  they could be 100% if they wanted to.

People have given a bunch of explanations (excuses) like they can only pull so much water from the Lehigh River (or Tobyhanna Creek, not sure where the intake is exactly) but none of those things ever seemed to be an issue pre-Vail.

I did hear that Vail got rid of a lot of their snowmaking equipment because it was old and they just didn't want to use it. More likely Vail will not staff up to run lots of old snowguns, but they also won't install a new automated system that could save on manpower so who knows.

Anyways, proof is in the pudding.

We are in a drought here people cut them some slack.  Also anybody hear from @Robert2 he was discussed earlier on the lift. @C1erArt might know.

he hasn’t post in 11 years

Very sad news I’m afraid. Looks like he lived his best life, which is what we can all hope for.

I saw a video on youtube of the park at JF this season. It made me want to cry. It was like 3 ride on features at the top, and the rest of the trail had no features.

Vail is garbage and ruined JFBB. It's clear they don't care about anything in the east other than mount snow and hunter.

But the situation at JFBB still isnt as bad as whats going on at whitetail. what a shit show.

Decided to treat myself to an end of week cool down at Frost. Good conditions,  very light crowd up until 11:30 or so, a  little fluff on top, but even the hard base layer held an edge. Glad to see Tbolt was open even though the website said it wasn’t. Challenge and river shot were nice, although the east side of East Mountain is completely untouched (most guns over there don’t even have hoses run to them) and I wouldn’t be surprised if Vail management doesn’t open it this season. The challenge lift wasn’t running as per usual for weekdays, so you had to make the trek over to East Mountain to ski Challenge or T bolt. Overall, a nice mellow morning. Bumped up my Carv season high by one whole point. Repeated post-run Carv advice today to ski steeper slopes 😁
