Skied Sugarbush with my son today.  Was a very spicy meat-a-ball to start with after warm temps yesterday and a freeze overnight.  Many of the groomers in the morning were some of the most challenging sliders conditions I’ve ever encountered.  Luckily the stuff that the sun hits got pretty decent.  We lapped the castle rock area for a bit and skied the north lynx lift line a couple times which was very fun.  We even found some trees that skied okay.  Crowds weren’t bad at all after about 11 am.

The plan was to have a nice ski day at Killington on Sunday.  Things were pretty icy which wreaked havoc on the lifts.  We got to the Skyeship base at 7:50 and booted up.  Noticed the gondola was on hold so we patiently waited until about 8:20 when I noticed on the app that the Bear Mountain lift was open.  Took off one boot and we drove up to the bear mountain base.  The lift was running so we got in line.  We were about to load when the lift stopped and they shut it down for the day due to a mechanical problem.  They said that the Skye peak express was opening soon so we waited there for about 1/2 hour.  I noticed on the app that Skyeship gondola was open and since nothing was happening where we were waiting we decided to go back down.  I took off my right boot and we drove down to Skyeship where we boarded.  Only stage 1 was open but we could ski one run off the north brook quad.  Did that a couple time but its a pretty short run.  I realized that the snowdon lift was open so we traversed over past K-1 to snowdon and it was one of the longest lift lines i've ever seen, as that was the only lift operating out of the base.  Bad idea.  Now how do we get back to where we were without taking a lift up the mountain?  I realized we could skate below Superstar and take the bunny hill to the snowshed lift and then traverse back over to northbrook area. Things didn't look good for many more lifts or terrain opening so I checked Pico's website.  It said that all the lifts were open and a decent amount of terrain so we said f-it and did the run all the way back down to the Skyeship base.  I took off my right boot again and we drove over to Pico.  I knew it didn't bode well for conditions when there were a whole bunch of cars leaving when I was pulling in.  Got a great parking spot and we headed up.  Made our way up one lift and then another to the top.  Was VERY icy on the run from the top.  Add the icy trails to the foggy skies and neither of us was feeling it.  Glad we were able to see Pico and it really seems like it would be fun on a nicer day.  We headed out after only a couple runs and made the drive home.  I've had my share of epic awesome ski days, so gotta take one of these once in a while!
