Day 5

Hey All,

I’m back from another day at Jackson Hole.  Today was sunny in the morning for the first time this trip and a little chillier than yesterday in the upper teens at the base to start and in the 20s on the mountain. Up the gondola and down amphitheater, visibility was good, snow very eastern you could feel the cord ripples. Then up Thunder and down Grand, was decent. Then up Sublette down Bivoac which was groomed again and real nice..did Bivoac again then Laramie bowl which was decent at the top and worse and worse lower down.

We skied grand again then lower Tramline to the base.  Lower Tram line very eastern snow.  Up the Gondola and down to the Casper lift, up Casper and I skied about the only good cord left on the mountain next to the stash park.  Then to the Teton lift, skied Crags run which had more loose snow than slick, I skied that again then split up from the boys who were heading to the Tram, I back to Casper and did the run next to stash park again made my way to the base, boys were in Tramline and I waited for them to do their run then had lunch at Ostera.

Atomic Jeff wouldn’t shut the fuck up about me smelling and Nazareth Jay was acting like a retard so I ripped the nastiest fart, as close to poo as possible without shitting myself and filled the entire suburban…and I said I wouldn’t fart anymore for the sake of the nice people.

Here are some pictures from today.

Starting day 4. With the absence of any real measurable snow, believe it or not, conditions have exceeded expectations. Need to poke around some and find the soft conditions in the trees, but they are still quite good. Hobacks on thursday went from soft to firm all in one run. Full sun on tap for today, with temps in the 30’s. Looking forward to that. Not looking forward to this weekends temps at home.
good times in JH as always.

Day 6

Hey All,

Report from yesterday is coming a bit late, even BenM messaged me yesterday evening WTF where’s the report.  Well I was saving it for now when I wait for my ride to the airport.  Yesterday began mild again with temperatures in the high 20s at the base and a little cooler up high.

Hoofed it up to the front of the gondola and a groundhogs day start.  Amphitheater which was semi frozen cord to Grand which was semi frozen cord, another amphitheater then Laramie bowl which was pretty eastern then Rendevous trail. I didn’t wanna ski any of the upper mountain runs anymore so split up from the boys.  Skied over to Casper lift via Nez perce then up Casper and slutted it up on the groomer next to stash park…really the only pitch I could do some angulation.

I then skied down to the gondola via Blacktail and lower Sundance both kind of scratchy up the gondola and took lupine way to Nez Pearce back to Casper area then took Teton chair up and skied Crags run which was a little chalkier then back to Casper and a final run next to the stash park and back to the base.

As I emerged from the general store with my vitamin water, Atomic Jeff was at the base and he was finished while the others still skiing.  We had lunch at the mangy moose and JFDan and NMSki joined us a little later after skiing some sportier terrain.  They said some areas mid mountain were starting to get springlike.  The wallets of the trip, Nazareth Jay and Gary had lunch at the four seasons and Jay was extra giddy when he made it back to the car.

This morning the boys are skiing about two hours then picking me up at the 49er where I’m standing outside of writing the report.  It’s 11:15 now and I’m guessing they’ll scoop me up before noon and then off to the airport for 2pm flight back to Nork.

I didn’t wanna ski today I was really pushing it with my knee skiing six days in a row and not to be a downer but I’m kind of sick of the eastern conditions and how warm and sweaty I’ve been this trip.  It’s all good I legit thought I’d bail a few weeks before this trip so made the best of it.  Honestly if it was boner doner powder I’d have been way more cooked.

Thanks for following along, engagement was shit in this report compared to past ones but worth writing since JLaw, Salty and BenM enjoyed…my three biggest fans lol. Not many pics from yesterday so gonna steal some of Jays.

I was getting worried when I didn’t see the day 6 report too. Did my best to follow and like. Looks like you guys had a blast. And @GrilledSteezeSandwich you did good with the pics. Much better than past reports.

Guess it’s back to blue now 😔

Thanks if not for PASRs I wouldn’t have taken a single picture.  Our plane has mechanical issues, should have left an hour ago and still hasn’t taken off yet and we are stopping in Rockford Illinois for fuel.

Plane landed in Newark at 10ish and I was back at the hotel house after midnight.

Thanks for those who read the report and came to Jackson hole.  For me Jackson hole got easier for many years and last few years got harder. It’s inspiration for me to get in better shape…cause I don’t think I’d wanna do another trip there in my current state.

Heading into work late today to a wide range of emotions…

Day 5 for me, everybody's last ski day.  a 2 pm flight out of JH actually leaves plenty of time for a good round of skiing in the morning.  Ran up the gondola, Thundre, and Sublatte, for a couple runs on Grand, Laramie, Rendezvous Trail.  Good stuff there, pretty much those runs had stayed in really good shape all throughout the trip, and were always nice grippy, let em eat type runs first thing in the morning.  We headed over to Casper, After you, and teton lifts were we found the Blue Mountain snow we all know and love so much, just to get us back into the East Coast mindset.  I guess based on elevation those trails got a good freeze thaw cycle to them, and were just firm, chunky, broken up into pieces of what maybe used to be good snow?  something like that.  We were on our way back to the car at 10:30 or so to do a quick change into street clothes and pack up skis and ski gear.  stopped at the moose for a quick bite, before returning to town to P/U Doug.

Despite not having any new snow on my end of the trip, it was still a great trip.  not one day did we really have bad weather, or bad conditions.  it seems like usually one day of my trip is a guaranteed flat light, like virtigo type stuff, or just conditions one day arent the best all around.  not this time.  real nice conditions each day, other than last few runs we made, but we could have also just gone back over to Thundre and had better stuff.

Flights for Tom and i were pretty uneventful, and arrived early, but our skis are still circulating somewhere around PHL.  Which makes me crazy, cause they got taken off the plane, probably put somewhere close to my check bag, but somehow disappeared with about 5 other peoples ski stuff .  My check bag showed up at the carousel, but at A terminal, the big stuff gets like walked through an elevator or something.   My opinion is, it was late, (11:30 pm) and handling large ski bags is hard, so the baggage handlers opted out of just basically doing their job.  The people in the little luggage offices were somewhat helpful, or at least pretended to be by making a call, and talking on the walkie talkie, but it still kinda blows my mind that they cant find a bunch of ski bags they took off a plane.

I promised @NMSKI a little good the bad and the ugly from this last trip.

Good: Travel was pretty flawless..worst part for me is drive to Newark airport but even that wasn’t terrible..

Bad: Hour and a half drive to Nork airport and rolling all my luggage around with my jacket on had me sweating like I popped a Molly, changed my shirt before security but that 72 hour deoderant protection advertised more like 72 minutes max big yikes.

Ugly: Server last night at Snake River Brewery.  As was said they must be hard up for staff, literally ignored us for 45 minutes cost him a couple more beers maybe even a root beer float added to the tab but generally I find service to be decent in JH..and always a few wet behind the ears foreigners serving mostly decent.

Good: Bagel place had bacon egg and cheese everything six out of 7 days..I don’t get that everyday but atomic Jeff is grandfathered into one and are up to $8.50 which isn’t bad. Not many sandwiches under $10 bucks these days.

Bad: Dumbass on lift after bar went down who said,”Fuck warn me about the bar not everybody has a helmet” lol shit I’d just buy him a helmet if he had a better attitude. Cheaper than airport parking.

Ugly: Frozen cord on my bad knee..and feeling like a poser at JH cause I didn’t ski much sporty terrain oh well I hate people with a poor me attitude but thoughts in my brain of when I skied the place a bit differently not great for my introspective brain.

Good: Some decent chalky snow, leaving town at 8:00am and being basically first gondola and iciest parking space no wipeouts in the parking lot, men’s bathroom, in front of the mangy moose or crossing broadway in front of the Mexican restaurant. Sheesh knock on wood for only ever being a visitor at St. John’s hospital

Bad: The Farts and the shits and the vacation constipation.

Ugly: how shit everything is around the Lehizzle from a snowstorm 2+ weeks ago…there’s people who haven’t even moved their car..sheesh I might have to message the mayor.

It amazes me how many people haven’t driven their cars in the 2.5 weeks since the storm

Well so this past Thursday on a few city streets they put up notices for people to move their cars for additional snow removal and most moved their cars and they didn’t do any snow removal so then two days later on Saturday night around midnight prob around the time the mommy’s and papis were still up in the clerb, the parking authority and police came through with bullhorns instructing people to move their cars and they’ve done that before.  Shits rowdy…and then live videos on FB

Good:

The Crew…we had a really solid crew this year and just enough people for the rental car.  Gotta thank Jeff for driving us around and when I was laying in bed shitposting online after the first ski day he did three seperate airport pick ups even put gas in the very new Suburban.

Things started off mellow but when JFDan and NMSki arrived things amped up a little..got the bat signal that there were snacks and beer in room 106…also a roaring fire..both been to JH several times and not fussy at all.PASRs..

The trip kicked into high gear with the arrivals of Gary and Nazareth Jay…for only skiing several times in the last decade or two, Gary slayed..I took him on one of my easier stashes when the boys hit sportier terrain and he was right behind me most of the time except the cat track cause I have a little skiercross in me and a lot of mass. Nazareth Jay is always happy and was loving the Wyoming whiskey and my dumb humor.  The first day at the mangy moose with the whole crew we were the servers most popular table and kept her busy with a lot of food and pitcher after pitcher and nachos and cheeseburgers in paradise.

Bad: Asking for a chile glizzy inside the mangy moose and Russian knew it was a Hawt dog

Ugly: is less dudes with poneytails in Jackson hole a good thing or a bad thing. Ugly used to be the seeing a hot blonde from a distance and it’s a dude used to happen a lot in JH but I feel like wallets replacing the skids over the last decade or two has led to that more Sheilas for sure in JH so that’s good just ask their age if they have braces.
