Popular Post RidgeRacer Posted January 30 Popular Post Report Posted January 30 Posted up en route to phoenix courtesy of AA’s new free in flight WiFi. With plenty of time to kill I figured I’d start the TR. Left the house this morning at 3:30 and it was 2 degrees. Arrived at EWR around 5am with just enough time to grab a large latte and a croissant. Should land around 10ish. Gonna drop in on my daughter at work then make my way north to the AZ crib. Today’s fixin to be busy as I need lots of provisions and have cleaners coming to the place. As for the skiing…day 1 is tomorrow. No new snow forecasted as the high pressure in the west continues. They got 5 inches last weekend and are sitting at just under a hundy on the season so far. Anticipating soft cord and maybe something in the trees up high. IDK. I’m just thrilled to get out of the stupidly cold temps in PA. On the mountain we’re looking at highs in the 30s under bluebird skies and Arizona sun for the next few days. Goggle tan incoming. Pic from last year (I think) below for stoke. LFG 8 5

GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted January 30 Report Posted January 30 Have a blast and wow you don’t allow much extra time getting to the airport.

Waking up before 3 is just crazy. 6am flights are nice in theory but suck in practice when you live an hour and a half to 2 hours from a major airport. 2

It’s worth waking up early and getting to your destination earlier and having a chance to settle In, doesn’t always work out that way. I once arrived in Denver at 830am and wasn’t skiing that day and even with baggage and rental car and driving into the mountains was only 11am so had early lunch and then it’s noon and hotel let me check in at Noon which is rad otherwise I’d be using public restroom for deuce and charging my phone in hotel lobby.
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted January 31 Report Posted January 31 Oh and you’re skiing in the west tomorrow..radical 1

At least at phl the early flights have a much better % of going out on time so it's worth the annoyance. Get some for those of us in PA ! 2
Popular Post RidgeRacer Posted January 31 Author Popular Post Report Posted January 31 beautiful day! More later 8 2
Popular Post RidgeRacer Posted January 31 Author Popular Post Report Posted January 31 (edited) Posted up from the deck if the agassiz lodge, waiting for lunch. (Pic of current location below). The sun is bright the DJ is outside and the cord is good. About what I thought it would be today. There is snow off piste but it's sorta sunbaked. My daughter took a spill on it actually hence the early lunch. She's good but needed a chilli dog to get back up and running. It feels so freaking good to not be in the igloo back home. I'm a 2 layer player and I feel like I overdressed Edited January 31 by RidgeRacer 10 1

Get some for those of us in PA ! I love early flights, love getting to my destination early. When its real early like 6 am, I'm a big proponent of the park sleep fly move where you go the night before and stay in a hotel at the airport, hotel shuttle in the morning. For a week trip it usually doesn't end up much more $ than parking anyway. 2
RidgeRacer Posted February 1 Author Report Posted February 1 (edited) Another great day at the bowl. Sunshine and cord and quite the party atmosphere with DJs at both lodges. Off piste is in play up high but it's sketch...sunbaked mostly. The trees were a little bit better because they're shaded. Still far from perfect. Didn't matter...today was all about the sunshine and warm temps. Like most places out west. Snow is definitely needed Edited February 1 by RidgeRacer 9
Popular Post RidgeRacer Posted February 1 Author Popular Post Report Posted February 1 Today was awesome. Will post more later. Pit stop at Meteor Crater. 11

Got there at 9 and it was pretty empty. Ran groomers to start and they were most excellent. Hit white lightning again and the tress and it was slightly better than yesterday. I did notice the trees off upper catwalk (what you're seeing in the pics) looked pretty well covered. It's a gamble because if you hop off the catwalk and into the trees you're pretty much committed. I went in based on looks and much to my surprise not only was there good coverage but there was plenty of loose snow to turn on. They start at 11,500 feet and are really shaded so I guess that helps. Lower down is way thinner and even lower is grass unfortunately. I do love the woods up there because it feels like you're lost but it's impossible to actually get lost. They're also sooooo nicely spaced out. After skiing we went to meteor crater which is about an hour from the mountain. Never been... always wanted to see it however. It was cool 8 1 1
AirheadD8 Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 Nice, thanks for the vicarious turns . I’m stoked for mid march. I haven’t skied when they were fully open. I love the consistent pitch. If you have time check out Walnut Canyon. Four miles from Flagstaff 1
Popular Post RidgeRacer Posted February 2 Author Popular Post Report Posted February 2 (edited) JADIP. Everything still in play. Skied trees, WL and gondi line up high. Proud of my daughter who killed the gondi line despite some hesitation. Sun was out and the groomed trails were once again on point. Not sure what else to say. Another great day. No crowds.
