I made it out for the second day, this week and conditions were pretty good again. It was warmer today, which made the snow soften up quicker. There were also more people there, which lead to the snow being pushed around more. I went to the west side a little more today. The farthest trail, lenape looked like it was getting thin in spots and shrinking. On a few other trails, a few thin spots were popping up, but overall there is still a decent amount of quality snow quality. I'm one who worries about scratching the bottoms of my skis, but I still wasn't too concerned about that today, because of the amount of snow.

I did notice, toward the bottom of Susquehanna, that there were yellow patches popping up. It didn't seem like mud and it wasn't :snowpee: . Only thing I could think of is that it might be oil from when the snow was made, from the hose lines?? :confused . Anybody know anything about what that might be?

We get lots of oil in our snow. It comes from the Areco guns---the one's that look like cement mixers. I have to bring a rag to wipe down my skis every time out, now that the snow layers have melted down. If you remember from last year, you can actually set our snow on fire with a lighter.

Is this the new (foreign, evidently) owners catching up on past posts?

And lemme guess, they're trying to figure out why people are getting all fired up over this 'no tree skiing' policy?

Anybody get the new 2025-26 elk brochure. There’s a betting pool at the local Elks club about how many new trees elk plants and my guess is bout tree fiddy. I think I’m gonna get up to elk this season even if it means travelling to Bethlehem to see a Warren miller flick.  Rather see a Mr. bean flick but whatever

Put me down for tree hunny!

When I was closer to Elk -- social circle-wise, not geographic-wise -- there used to be a running joke what will be this year's list of improvements?

Re-striped the white lines in the parking lot? Planted some more trees? Mowed the grass? Painted the floors in the lodge building? Washed the windows in the patrol shack? Had the chimney swept in their fireplace? Changed the motor oil in the (pick one) elk mobile/groomers/pickup truck used for snow plowing/other miscellaneous mobile equipment. Changed the cooking oil in their deep fryer? For the record I'm not implying any relationship between used motor oil and their deep fryer oil! One year they replaced some hydraulic hoses in their air compressor system and that made the top ten list.

There's actually some tax implications and benefits behind ski areas planting trees. If they meet certain (minimal) requirements they can claim to be an operating tree nursery on some of their land. Which is an agricultural use. Which has some tax benefits, they show a loss in nursery operations and apply the loss to ski area operations.  So maybe they have this one thing figured out even though people have joked about it for the past 20 - 30 years.

I don't think WM is coming to NCC this year :( We were out of town and missed last (2?) year, were their numbers down? In the past it's been a full house and even sold out

The last few movies that we saw were pretty lame but it was still a fun tradition to kick off the season

I didn’t make it last year but previous year Saturday evening seemed off a bit.

My old gang used to make a tradition out of it but a lot of them have stopped skiing…..pfffft. Old people 🫤 Down to a couple hard cores .

I’ve always complained about the films being off limits to epileptics as the scenes change every two seconds. For some reason they feel obligated to cram in as much as possible. Sponsors?

They should focus on a younger audience and weave in more humor, stuff Warren was good at.
