Anyone know if they've started on Runaway/Fast Track yet?
As of Sunday night at Closing snowmaking said they didnt start it yet; nor had plans this week to do it, but it can change in a moments notice.

i was going to go tomorrow, but i think im going to bump my first time to tuesday. hows the snow?
Conditions were pretty good today we only got about an hour or so of sleet and then it turned into snow. The mountain blew snow all day and the patrol is hoping to open spike up tomorrow or tuesday. Luckily the forcast they had for rain at around 6PM didn't happen. Even knowing the wind was wicked at times all in all today wa good.
And it can only get better from here.

I am not saying you are negative Melissa and sorry if I offended you, there are some people on here that only want to bash sno mountain. It's their second year running a ski resort and to boot a resort that was in horrible shape. They inherited a mess- this year they have a new general manager and one who knows what he's doing. They inherited bad equiptment and the facilities really needed upgrading. For the record, I was not trying to be negative, I am just baffled as to why they didn't have more snow blown. Plus, I think it's lame that they hyped having 15 trails open and then didn't make it. In my opinion, it's better public relations to not make promises you do not keep. If I expect 15 trails to be open, I am disappointed when there are not 15 trails open.THE SNOW SITUATION:
The fact was they thought they were going to have more open but when it came down to it they didnt get the cover they wanted to be safe enough to let people ski on it. I would rather ski on fewer trails with good quality that poor quality with some thin/bear spots. Yeah jumping and saying 15 trails wasnt right but its what he was informed and then it changed. Trail status and situations change. Im glad they opened this weekend and we didnt have to wait till mid January like last season. They were down a pump and that reduced some of the water able to be pumped.
They will improve as soon as the weather starts to cooperate again

I saw the trail map from a lady at the mountain, if you can remember that little path off of Upper Fast track, from the map it looks as if that is the trail just widened. That was the only trail on the map that looked new, other than connections
The new trail map isnt public yet they have a trail named rattler off of upper fast track and will make the glades between the two legal to ski. Then a trail down next to cannonball and a few small ones. I actually dont think what they did with mainline and ran it right to the buny hill is bad, at least we dont have to huff it up to the bunny hill.
Give them a little more time and im sure they will be up and running and some people who are negetive can eat our sno.
-
You're not counting the "new" trails.
They are not blowing on fast track so the new trail off of that one on the left of the main face wont be open and the one on the northface isnt ready either as far as i know

sounding like 10am-6pm, what are you hearing skibum?
Sorry for the late reply I missed your post (I wasn't blowing you off)
Its a mixed answer we are getting, the mountain says to have all staff there for an 8 am opening. The good thing is its opening on a saturday and there will be a large ski patrol staffing that can get everything into place. They dont let the patrollers on the hill till opening day.
I say 8am but mgmt has said opening between 8 and 10am for opening times but will remain open till 10pm
-
It looks like they will have Spike and Spur open, and then probably something on the Northface?
Their plans if all goes well in the next two days is:
Upper mainline above the construction area
Possibly Highball
Spike
Spur
Whistler
Cannonball
and maybe, just maybe boomer and/or smoke
Dont hold me to this just what I heard from snowmaking/Grooming
-
I would assume they are, but they opened at the end of january last season
If sno opens as planned YES they will be open...The patrol already has their staff scheduled for new years eve and day
-
are they gunna have any rails or anything like that set up on the 8th?
I'm not 100% sure about that but I know the park crew from Planet is there
-
anyone been up there lately? hows it looking?
It's looking good- They are blowing as much as they can. Pretty much most of the mountain except for runaway, fast track, easy street and the lower part of mainline.
Cannonball and smoke look good

IIRC Blue also pays someone to cut their halfpipe. Don't know all the details, but I have read that pipe cutting is a difficult task. Part art and part science. Snow conditions vary due to temps and humidity from top to bottom as it's being made, compaction occures towards the bottom, voids in the snow can occur due to wind, compaction, or melting.
Maybe Planet or a leasing company is buying the Zaugg? They could then truck it to different areas that they serve? Much more efficient use of capital $ for how often it would be used.
Where are the trails names on Sno's site? Didn't see them on there tonight, but maybe missed it.

all this snow is making me so pumped for this weekend. what are the hours for saturday and sunday? and i know this is a little bit of a strecth but, when is night skiing gonna start happening?
Sno gets most of its business weekend and nights. The plan is to open saturday and start night skiing that night. This year they are opening 1/2 hour earlier (8 instead of 8:30) 30 minutes more to ski the fresh untracked snow. I love making the first run down and seeing my fresh tracks.
-
are there hours 9-8?
This year Sno's Hours are 8am-10pm

I was at the mountain all morning and its starting to take shape. They are blowing snow on most of the mountain except the lower portion of mainline. They have yet to put barrels and hay into the lazy river and still need some grading work to make it skiable terrain. I took a few pics with my crummy phone and will post them in a few.
-
thanks for the pics, do they still have to put the barrels in the lazy river before they can blow sno on top of it?

Baby Moose? Isn't that a calf?
Yeah that is a calf ski!!! LOL
Anyway where are these new trails I saw the one off of upper Fast Track and that will be a blue; but where are the others? are they actually trails?? Anyone know.? I have to be at the mtn tomorrow and I will do the thing that is frowned upon (I will ask)
-
But to be serious on the issue over the whole mess up there..from what i understand they will be opening the upper half of mainline and shuffling the mainline traffic over to the top of the bunny. Running lifts 2,4, and 5. No 3. Which would mean you have to skate across the top part of the mountain if you want to hit the pow pow on mainline. Once again this isn't set in stone, so don't bash me if it doesn't happen and welcome to the area and the boards!
I have not been to the mountain since last week. Does anyone know if they started blowing snow last night like their website said. I will be there on sunday but was wondering
-
I hope you aren't thinking that 7 new trails means 7 trails that are top to bottom/ half mountain trails.
They have not given the new trail name out yet - so far only one is done for this season and I have not seen a map either. They did announce today they plan on opening dec 8th

Hi Ski!
I know we need cold to blow! The forecast for Scranton looks hella cold though! So they need to jump on it! If you check accuweather, the low for every night for the next 15 days is below freezing (and in most cases well below freezing). Keep your fingers crossed...
I was told by a friend the patrol was asked to be all set to go by the end of next week Dec 7th- But they have been set and will have their final training next weekend and prep for the season
-
No, why??
According to a phone conversation I just had with a manager their target opening date is the second week of Dec.
-
They've been blowing for the past 2 nights. Im sure they will open with a bunch of trails next weekend.
They still dont plan on opening any earlier than Dec 8th or 9th- They just arn't ready yet
-
Thanks for the info, skibum...I'll talk to some people about maybe getting you rehired. No promises, though.
Did they move the NASTAR start house, yet?
Well I was up there yesterday and some this morning. They did not move the start house just yet. Not sure if they are moving it or just going to build a new one. The new trail is on skiers right of fast track. Again it will be closed at night as they have not put in lights for this season but the snow making water pipes are in and ready. Did anyone hear of a target opening date yesterday at the party? They seem to be a little behind on wrapping up the waterpark construction. I heard yesterday from one of the patrollers that they are just waiting for the drums to put in tha lazy river. They just arn't being as informative and the managers are very busy.

I'm not sure if they moved it yet. I should be at the mtn for a while on saturday morning and I will know more then.
