  1. Really, it's pretty simple. Helmets won't protect against all head injuries, however they will protect against a fairly high percentage. This is particularly true on beginner trails where skiers and riders are not going all that fast. It doesn't take much impact to cause a closed head injury - that would have been alleviated with a helmet. However, nothing will protect someone who hits a stationary object bombing down some run at 50MPH. Nor will a helmet protect a motorcycle rider at that speed. Theres really nothing to argue about here.

  2. I just count the Main Street chair as 800 vert, the six pack as 1050 and the quad as 1080..I don't think Jack Frost is a legit 600..maybe on the east-side..but the middle runs..no way..I'm just glad they don't charge based on vert..Nero if you like to ski/ride fast..you should join the Blue crue..we're usually around early Saturday and Sunday mornings..

[/quote I do the same thing. Runs from top of BB count for 475. I don't ski BMTN on the weekends - that's why the weekday pass.

  3. how do you get a million vert if you are only skiing 1 or 2 days over Christmas?... are you counting the length of the trail....

and of those 65 times how many did you the saddest sound ever (season pass refused)?

Only skiied at Blue Mtn 1 or 2 days during the holidays. I ski just about every day. How to count? It's a pretty good estimate - BM has vert of 1082, however, some runs (Main St) might only be 750 vert. Come on - it's easy to do the math. Camelback is about 800, JF about 600, Killington - depends on the run.

  4. haha thats funny if you think i am on roids... its called proper diet and exercise

edit: i am noticing how you are not denying the fact that their were blackout dates last year and you either didn't know how to read than or you did ski often enough to find out...

I've skied at least 1 or 2 days during Christmas week every year. If there was a blackout during that period it's the first I know about it. And - I hit about a million vert every year.

  5. your a moron... last year i was a weekday only season pass holder and their were definitely blackout dates... maybe you finally learned how to read, or you just don't go to blue often enough to know that their were blackout dates.

Looks like the roids have eaten too much of your brain

  6. Blue gives weekday nonholiday skiing to weekday nonholiday passholders..what more do you want???? If you want to ski Holidays buy an unlimited pass..you don't have a leg to stand on..

You're missing my point - For as long as I've been a weekday season pass holder, said pass was honored during the week regardless of whether it was considered a "holiday" or not. The "new policy" that I am talking about changes that and diminishes the value by "blacking out" certain days. The trend in recent years with American business has been to 1. try to maintain the price in order to be competitive; 2. give the consumer less for the same price in order to secure short term profitablity) and 3. Make "less" appear to be more by throwing in "something else" - something that doesn't really cost anything. Why should the ski industry be any different and that's what's happening here. Probably elsewhere too.

Now - "legally" - of course I don't have a leg to stand on - you're right about that. Ownership could do whatever they want. However, you expect that type of business behavior from large corporations (ever notice how 10 ounces of coffee still comes in a 16 ounce sized can) not your local ski area.

Blue is an excellent mountain. They have an excellent record of investing to develop infrastructure. That, my friend, is not the issue

  7. Blue is doing great.. :D They give the customer alot..I buy a season pass and I can ski there everyday of the season..and the snow is as white as Cocaine..

Yes, they are doing great - for now - the businesses that survive the current recession are the ones that give more to the customer

  8. The midweek pass was never good during Holiday periods..that's nothing new here..

Weekday Season Passes are not valid on the following dates:

December 28th through January 1st, January 18th and Februarv 15th.

Not true - our family were long time weekday passholders - each year we would ski/ride a couple of days during what some other mountains considered a "holiday week" - including the 2008/2009 season, when the newer scanning/computer system was able to track this. This was one of the factors that made Blue Mtn different than some of the others. They are now doing what typical American businesses are doing - diminishing true value to improve short term revenues, and making the consumer believe that they are getting more (season passholders line, reserved rooms on weekends, etc).

Sad but true. Maybe a sign of the times we live in.

  9. A couple of days ago I received my much awaited letter from Blue Mountain regarding the early purchase of next year's season pass. For many years I have purchased a 'weekday only' pass as I am not often able to ski/ride at Blue Mtn on weekends. Historically, (many years), Blue Mountain has honored the weekday pass , the couple of times that I would ski/ride during the week between Christmas and New Years. Apparently this may no longer be the case and it appears that the "weekday pass" may no longer be honored on certain weekdays(according to the letter). It is one thing to raise a price somewhat to keep pace with inflationary trends. An early closing can also be justified because of the lack of skier/rider interest. However, it is quite something else to diminish the value of your product by giving the consumer less for their money - particulary when the economy is in such a shambles.

Do I sound dissappointed? Heck yeah.

Our family will be taking our business elsewhere.

  10. With the Reggae Fest (Sat) and Season Passholder party (Sun) going on this weekend, I figured it warranted a roll call...

Who is skiing where and when this weekend at the Big 2

I'll be at Frost with my eldest (Michael) and middle (Zachary) children on Sunday for the passholders party..

Can't really ski with anyone this weekend though as it will be Zachary's 2nd time ever skiing.

I will be at JF on Saturday. Top of OnePark

  11. Um... thats just dumb. They need to work on modernizing their facilities first. You have to give people a reason to pay more or else they'll stop coming. It's a great place, but they need to work on that...
They need to work on more than that. I have skiied for many years at Blue Mountain and have seen the clientele go steadily "downhill". The trails and lifts are wonderful - but -

    1. Crowd control at either the 6 pack or the Quad is non-existant at night.

    2. Skiiers code? Forget it. It's hard to ski while looking over your shoulder.

    3. Checking your skis/board with the valet - you might wait 1/2 hour in the evenings.

    4. Clientele? Fine during the day, but it's a zoo on Friday nights

Enough said - charge for parking?

  12. I would like to meet some new PASR'S. I have brown pants, light blue jacket, black helmet. My son has all black pants and jacket fur on the collar. We have only really been to Frost twice in the last two years so I am not too familiar with the terrain. I suspect we will not be riding East mountain, maybe by the end of the season. I'm sure my other son who will be in the race program will be zipping down it before I do.

I'm new here but I will be at Frost on Saturday. Or maybe Bear Creek. Or maybe Blue Mtg. Lots to choose from this early. the snow is great today at BB
