  1. never had rome bindings but ive heard good things about them. i have Ride RX's and they've lasted me about 3 years and are still running strong. if you dont go in the Rome directiion i recommend Ride.

Had some Ride EX's on an earlier board, nice and light / stiff but never seemed to fit right with my salomon boots (F20's), the higher end Ride's have always looked great but this experience with the lower end stuff has always put me off. Been riding salomon relay pro's with the flexible heel cup for the last 2 seasons and really like them, just wanting to try something different.

Do your Rx's have their "interesting" G-string-like from strap.

  2. Hi All,

picked a a new board while in the mountains last weekend and am debating new bindings to go with it. It's a Lib TRS (C2-BTX)seems like quite a flexible thing compared to my existing "dark" lib-tech (not banana). I've always seen good reviews on the higher end Rome bindings so either the 390's or the targa's look like option. I don't want anything too stiff given the nature of the board.

    Any experience or inputs?

    Thanks

  3. Hi All,

had a nice relaxing long weekend with the whole family at squaw. Rode there all three days thanks to a good condo/ ticket deal, just bouncing around the many peaks from KT, to Granite. Most of it was really nice considering there's been no snow for a week, they are still sat on 120+ inches at the peaks and at least at the higher elevations it's holding up really nicely with lots of long fast chalky groomers. Favourites were siberia, granite chief and the left side of KT22. Off the runs it was really too sketchy, I will even use the "with the kids" excuse but in reality they are just as happy off trail, it simply was too many skiers over it and not warm enough to soften it up even in the afternoons.

Anyway, a great weekend with some highlights....

I highly recommend the village accomodations, waking up to this view

For those of you that have been on here long enough to remember this one being born, now we see here first day on ski's. She did really well in two mornings at ski school, then came to play with us a little in the afternoon, instructors comments... "she has really good balance, just not too good at the stopping part....."

  4. The final irony in this tale, making up my mind about the jokers in this shop. I get a call this morning from the tech, this being the day we are supposed to pick the stuff up before heading to Squaw tomorrow.

"Hello, Mr xxxxx, I am sorry but there's a bit of a problem with the bindings we recommended, we don't have any. We can put a rush order on them and they might be here by Monday, is that OK?"

Then after I explained my situation quite clearly, came the kicker:

"Well, I suppose we could fit the marker bindings if you are really in a hurry......"

At this point I drove to REI, bought some "suitable" rossi bindings, took them to the store and insisted that they fit and adjust/ test them on the spot. Blasted the shop manager and got the fitting fee dropped and a 10% discount on the ski's and boots.

    Won't be going there again......

  5. The bigger thing is if god forbid something did happen do you want that kind of shit on your gourd, it could have nothing to do with the binding but still that thought would be in your head.

Its like my uncle said about fixing his three legged cat, every time I thought about seeing Mindy Mindy Mindy rocking three legs it would just remind me of how cheap I am.

Yep, that just about sums it up, I'll be paying for new bindings (again) but there's just an underlying feeling with most shops that deal with stuff for your kids, that they prey on that sentiment and use it to make sure you buy everything over and over again "just in case".

  6. logically, it kind of makes sense, but i really can't see how they'd be allowed to have that binding on the market if it doesn't test out accurately through the entire DIN range, although elasticity isnt really tested in a binding check. i generally prefer other bindings to marker (at least the twin cam toe) for that reason specifically. the bulk of the toe piece actually slides before your boot can release, as opposed to just the wings of the toe pivoting like most other bindings on the market. now that you explained it, i can see why he'd recommend the salomon binding over the marker in this case, if that is in fact an issue with the marker.

thanks, i still dont see how they can offer the same binding the previous day and then suddenly its a "known problem" but i haven't any history with this shop so i have no reference point to judge this against. as you said, i dont see how marker could sell this with a known issue for small people, a quick web search finds no mention of any issue.

unfortunately safety has to prevail so it seems i'm shelling out for another set of bindings.

  7. thanks for the feedback so far, i talked to the technician and he claims this is an issue with the marker bindings that on less than 1.5 din there is not enough pressure to re center the boot in the binding when you twist it, according to them, marker knows about this but cant fix it, anyone think this is feasible?

  8. This is the manufacturers description

Marker M 4.5 EPS Youth Bindings Marker M 4.5 EPS Ski Bindings (74mm Brakes) Youth 2011: Marker builds every junior binding with the same high standards of protection and performance as their adult bindings, adapted to junior proportions and requirements. The Marker M 4.5 EPS has a redesigned heel, reducing the weight of the steel track. Biotech

  9. All,

I have an urgent question as I think the local ski shop is trying to squeeze more cash out of me. We are buying our daughter her first skis at age 4 and she obviously needs a very low DIN setting. In the store they showed us some very nice marker bindings and my first reaction was "i already have some of those on my sons ski's". They are the very same model, 2 years old one season very light use. They agreed that they could use them but now 2 days later I've just got a call from them saying that "this type of binding doesn't release properly at very low DIN settings but they have some salomon ones that do"

The Marker spec says they support down to 29lb's (she's 39lb's without ski gear)

Are they just ripping me off?

    Thanks

  10. Just a quick post and a couple of pictures from the weekend, not much in the way of decent photo opportunities as the light was pretty bad for a point and shoot.

Great snow conditions though, the storms just keep coming and you can see from the access road that the donner pass is getting slammed.

The kids really enjoyed the 6-8" of fresh snow on top of a fairly soft, deep base.

  11. Nice pics. I love how you say you are "stuck in Europe." I can think of worse places to be.

English humor, and yes, there are many worse places to be. Regensburg is a beautiful town, mostly untouched by the war, unlike a lot of other cities here in Bavaria. Good food, beer and close to the Alps, not bad at all.

Sucks that 2 of my development centers are here and in Villach - Austria, oops there I go again.

  12. Just got my ass kicked on GS bowl off K22 peak. The bowl was completely empty. Leave it to this fool from PA to jump in what was easily the steepest scariest thing I've ever skied. Made down most of it then hit a slick spot and down I slid. Had to hike up digging my boots in to get back up. The bowl wouldn't have been that bad if it was powder but it was hard pack and crust. Still fun though. Pic of GS below...

Looks really crusty, needs some sun on it, come back later and kick it back.

  13. No more days out here, have to make do with Tahoe from now until the new year at least  Coming home on thursday after some more work here in Regensburg.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to getting back and riding my own board again. Next time out I will bring it with me.

The scenery is spectacular when the sun is out, standing at the "top of Tirol" on the glacier, you can see clear into Italy to the south. Still a couple of firsts for me, first time (riding)in the Tirol, first time on a glacier, first time in a six pack with a "bubble" to keep the wind off.....

  14. Forgot you were out there. I'm thinking of coming out for a few days late January or mid Feb.

Based on "local knowledge" that's usually the best time for early snow, but this year has been a very big start so who knows what happens now. Have you thought about where you would go?

  15. Hi All,

just thought I'd post a few pic's from my weekend stuck over here in Europe. Some friends and I headed down to Austria's Tirol region to the Stubai Gletscher (Glacier) valley, arrived saturday lunchtime to find that they were closing the glacier resort because of the storm and avalanche conditions, so we headed to a smaller resort at the foot of the valley call Schlick2000, still over 3000ft vertical and pretty expansive, they dont do small mountains or resorts over here. So when we arrived it was pretty socked in with the weather but you could just see some peaks above,

But by 2pm the clouds broke and you could really see the breathtaking scenery.

The snow was a mix of long mogul-ly pistes, and lots of surprisingly unskied "off-piste" (really between-piste) which was pretty nice soft but quite windblown and hence variable depth snow. We found a couple of areas like this one where the snow had collected on certain faces, it was really deep and awesome coming down from the left of this pic.

    post-109-0-66953600-1292236269_thumb.jpg

Last run down was "peak to base", 2250m to 1000m, a really nice mix of terrain, but a real leg-burner, we retired to our 40 euro B&B after a few beers.

Next morning we are off to the glacier, forecast was cold and windy (which turned out to be true), so not many pics as it was basically low to zero visibility most of the day. A quick view of the base area (1750m), this place is TALL, peak at 3250m and there is an ungroomed run from top to bottom called the wilde grub'n which just has to be seen to be believed, 10km and 5000 vertical feet of bleu/black terrain, freakin awesome.

    post-109-0-82112500-1292236293_thumb.jpg

So up on the glacier the snow was lovely in places but visibility quite bad, this picture was during one of the "bright" periods. Dropping off the windlip to the right of this picture was deep soft snow which was amazing while the visibility was there but surreal when it went to flat white, at one point I was so dis-oriented I had to stop and wait to get my bearings back.

All in all it was quite an experience, whilst I am still of the opinion that the (western, sorry) US resorts offer a combination of snow and facilities that is tough to beat, I would certainly do this again every time the opportunity arose. One other thing, it's really cheap to ski here, 20 euro for a half day ticket at Schlick and 40 something (42 I think) for the glacier.

  16. Welcome to Tahoe, it's wierd to hear about other PASR's out "here", especially when I am over in europe, riding in Austria this weekend. Seems like you are finding your way around well, but make sure you get over to Granite Chief next day out. Especially if the snow isn't fresh, the aspect and slope of granite chief always seems to provide nice surface quality, especially compared to KT-22 which is often hard and icy as is siberia bcause they get baked by the sun and then re-freeze.

  17. PICS!!!!

Have Camera, Snow expected on saturday, the locals tell me all I have to look out for is crevasses (sp?) "that's why they have lots of T-bars because they cant mount real chair lifts on the shifting ice..... ", will post pics sunday night or Monday.

Just spent the evening with the president of the worlds largest telecom network provider, drinking vodka and eating a lot of raw fish (think pickled herring rather than sushi), room is gently swaying but I wasn't the one puking in the snow......
