  1. Yes the snowmakers know of the wet bulb thing although I personally am not to knowledgeable about it. Thanks for the link. We'll all I can say is lets hope that the forecast is incorrect like it often is but this time for our benefit. :nana

*****Oh man comparing that wet bulb chart to weather.com's forecast puts us just on the brink of fair snowmaking conditions everyday with the exception of fri-sun with the max humidity being forecasted at max 71% and lower all the other days. The border line between fair snowmaking and no snowmaking is sooo close!! We'll just have to see what happens. If accuweather forecast stands more true to weather.com I think our chances are still good. :woot

Use this forecast for overnight lows.

  2. That blows. It's like they said: "Ratings are sketchy as is, so let's make it subscription based and only available online, so virtually nobody in the US will see any racing."

And, btw, the opening WC races were cancelled because of rain and warm temps.

I watched yesterday's race via the web at www.wcsn.com and it really wasn't bad at all. Sure, would be nice if it was a higher quality stream, but all in all not bad. Certainly way better than the alternative - which is nothing.

I'd encourage everyone to sign up for the service, if you have any interest al all in World Cup racing. WCSN is planning to market their offering to cable providers, so the more interest they can show, the better.

  3. I'm asking in the CB forum because it would probably be a CB local to know...

Has anyone hiked Big Pocono State Park? I'm looking for some tips on what it's like to start on the North Trail (which is supposed to be steep and hard), then circle around on the South Trail going in a clockwise direction, right back to Lot #4.

    http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateParks/par...ocono_maps.aspx

My brother and I hiked it a few weeks ago. It was a first for me, but my brother worked for the park service there back in the 80's, so he knew the trails reasonably well.

From lot 4 we went down the mountain taking the south train to the old railroad bed. We walked the railroad bed back towards Camelback and then came up the mountain on the North trail.

Only suggestion I have is use bug spray before heading out.

  4. Meathead Films Born From Ice. It is there 05-06 movie. It is used, but there are no scratches. It is a movie about Eastern Skiing. No out west stuff. Big mountain, a little park, and lots of bonus stuff. Has Skiing from Stowe, Jay Peak, Mad River Glen, Smuggs, Sugarbush, New Foundland, Killy, Sugarloaf, and among others. Was a great movie, but watched it five times so i feel like selling it. I bought it for $25, So i am selling it $15.

    I'll take it. PM me.

  5. Tim are you racing, coaching, or watching?

Bell is a day trip, as is Hunter...Anyway I guess we will have to see how everything looks in April

    Just watching. How about you?

  6. Is Elk still blowing snow? April 1st or 2nd is a possibility for me if Blue is closed down..it would be alot cheaper than heading to NY or VT where I'd have to spend a night or two in a motel..

No, they are done blowing snow.

  7. I skied Elk on Friday and talk was they'll stay open. However, cover is getting thin, especially on the west side. Slalom is in nice shape, however.

I plan to be up there for the races on 4/1 and 4/2.

  8. My Rossi elite exp 3 boots have a "flex adjustment" ( soft / hard) located above the heel area. I've tried both settings on dry land, but haven't noticed any difference. The instructions say that this is to be suited for height/ weight / power. Anybody know exactly what this setting does and which would be the best for an intermediate skier??? The booklet isn't much help. Thanks.

Probably best to start in the soft position and ski for a while. Then move to the hard position and ski again. Others may jump in with better suggestions, but things to watch for in the hard setting are getting stuck in the back seat and not being able to pull your feet under you while turning.

Your boots will be considerably stiffer on the mountain at 20 degrees, than they are walking around the house or ski shop.

Good luck. Seems like boot flex is another one of those black art areas in this sport.

  9. Here is a link to video showing Bode's two GS runs at Beaver Creek. His second run is nothing short of breathtaking.

Bode was quoted by Ski Racing as saying "Yeah, that was not ideal. For those of you who don't know ski racing, it's not faster to go on your ass, but it adds excitement sometimes."

Note: Make the appropriate selections at the bottom of the page; Discipline=Gentlemen, Venue=BeaverCreek(USA) RTL, Clip=Bode Miller, then select the appropriate video link, based on your internet connection (Standleitung=T1).

  10. Its interesting about the variety of experiences that others have had with footbeds. I have a set of Superfeet green/blue in my Dalbello V8's that I've been riding on for a couple of seasons now. They're awesome. I have been comfortable with them and felt like I had great support in all kinds of conditions. So, when I bought new Dalbello V-Tech boots today, I had them put a new set of the same kind of footbeds in as well. I kept the stock beds, just in case I wanted to switch back, but I'm not expecting to need to do so. My feet are pretty "normal."

If you go with a new set of footbeds, you might need to take a twist or two off the center buckles to accomodate any slight rise in your instep. - VY

Where did you pick up the V-Tech's? I'm currently skiing in V9's.

  11. I tried a pair of those Superfeet inserts, the green ones, not the molded ones, and they added way too much heel lift!!!! I felt like I was carving great...with the tails of the skis. I was looking for more heel stabilization (I have custom footbeds, but they are totally under the foot, no wrap around the heel). I returned the Superfeet on their great return policy and got Scholls conformables instead, just to cut down on some packed-out boot issues. They are still a bit too much "extra stuff", but things are sure snug now. Trouble is, my toes are getting cold fast. Not sure how much is weather (9 degrees on the summit yesterday, excluding any windchill) and how much is lack of blood circulation.

Wouldn't the heel lift moved your balance forward, and if anything, made your tails wash out and skid, rather than carve? Just curious, no expert here.

  12. Will Kaplan

I am getting orthotics made by Billy Kaplan next Monday. I was in Langhorne Ski Shop yesterday to do some shell fitting and Bill was working with a couple of guys. When they left, he said they were with Camelback's Ski Team. At least one of them was a coach.

Bill is quite experienced and a lot of people recommend him. Evidently has some world cup experience from some point in the past.

I told him I'd post my impressions of his boot work on the forum after I am able to make some turns with his work under my feet.
