In the mid-90s, I remember some hype about an expansion to follow the North Face one, I think it was called the Ledges. I've always assumed it was that area to the northeast. Down below, it gets really steep, so I'm not sure whether it could have been top to bottom.

Harsh, man...

For at least a few years there has been a trail cut to skier's left of Powderhorn, but no lift has been run, nor have more trails been cut (and it looks like there's room for another trail or two). Judging by the name of the road built in that area, I would guess that they'll call this area "Beaver Creek" if it's ever completed. Does anyone know details of the plan for expansion? Is it still on the table if Roundtop has a couple profitable years?

When Montage opened the North Face, there was a lot of buzz about another expansion that was supposed to happen "soon." I think it might have been called the Ledges. Anyway, now I see on DCski.com that there is talk of 7 new trails. The most likely spot looks like skier's right of Fast Track, where another lower-half complex of trails could fit (though probably not 7). Does anyone know where these will be?

... have there ever been serious rumblings of Elk expanding? The east face of south knob looks legit, and depending on the configuration, it could add a couple hundred vertical feet. Looks like it has a good water source, too. From reading the posts here it seems that the current owners are financially conservative, but it's fun to dream.

Thanks a ton--I see they have a website. I'm surprised that I can't find any owners willing to rent--unless that is prohibited by their bylaws.

It's been a long time since I've been to Elk, but I was hoping to stop by this year. Doesn't look like there's anything slopeside being advertised, but when I look here, it looks like there's a place with 6 tennis courts and 2 nasty pools that is (was?) a good option. Many places north of that look walk-able, too, but again, I don't know if they can be rented. Does anybody what this place is, and how one goes about renting there, or in one of the nearby places? Thanks!!
