  1. KC, Do you know if they have looked at putting in a Disc Golf course in at the mountain? If they put in a solid 18 hole course, I believe it would get used. We have no need for the "beginner" crap that camelback put in. The cost is not terribly high; 400-500 per basket. I think a course would give Dads something to do while the family is at the waterpark. I live 5 minutes from the mountain and I have to drive over 30 minutes to get to the nearest course. Just a thought; not sure if it would even be considered.

We did that a few years ago...however it wasn't very popular at all....then again it may not have been laid out nor marketed properly either, I wasn't involved with activites like I am now, but I will pass this along.

Also on the agenda for Summer activities is Mountain Biking..this was looked into last Summer but with the BK everything ground to a halt. We are activly looking for a group that would be interested in fomulating a trail system. Considering that it's already May I doubt anything could be done this season, but for 2014 I think I can say the mountain is keenly interested in it. Off the cuff interest in a Skate Park as well...this being my idea that I keep bringing up, one that can also be utilised in the Winter as well since a ton of boarders are also extreme bikers/skateboarders as well..I think it would be a good add to activities.

Lol..as far as the Moose...well lets just say he has "Moved On"

  2. Now this is a shame. I know he busted my ass sometimes on the Sno forum, but this is almost hypocritical...kinda bashing on Sno while at the same time having your hand in the cookie jar of the mountain you work for..one that you supported here on PASR..while stealing from same....and from the looks of it, other businesses as well.

Hope he gets it straightened out and somehow works it out.

  3. Thanks for keeping us updated, K.C.

I hope the new management makes a go of it. Their plan may be to make the place profitable then sell to another operator to recoop some of their previous investment. But that's OK. I hope they keep some of the discount pricing like the $25.00 morning tickets and a discount weekday. They need to give people a reason to drive past the competition from the NYC and Philly metro areas to see what great snowmaking and terrain they have.

I also like the name change back to Montage. No one I talked to knew what Sno was but they knew Montage.

Hopefully, they will change the names of the "Snake" and whatever trails names were added under the old management back to railroad theme names to give some continuity to the trail names. With Steamtown right in Scranton maybe they can partner with some others trying to market the area under a common theme.

That could be the long term game plan, I know in my investments I like to make $$ at it and then sell off at a profit and go look for something else, that's how the game works, however in this case my gut feeling is the group/owners may stick around longer as they have an invested interest in Scranton & the area around it. As far as the name....totally agree as "Sno" was never popular and with all the past issues it's something we need to get out from under. I like "Montage Mountain Resort" Sounds real and not a playground.

The RR themed names I am all for as I am a RR enthuisast (Abandoned research is my favorite non bike activity)..and..yes, the idea of Steamtown, even the trolley using parts of the original Laurel Line up to the stadium...that can all tie together nicely for the mountain and will benefit not only MMR, but all the businesses up there.

  4. Do these new guys have more capital to work with? With a sustainable budget, and not many ridiculous expansions (waterpark), they should be able to run the place at a profit...

Yes they do....and as far as the water park...that basically paid itself off last season as it was a very big success and for once we had a decent Summer and good crowds (Peach Festival)..and almost every weekend was at or near capacity, so..in hindsight we can chalk this up as a win.

  5. I am not casting any cloud. Your new bosses are in the same boat. Only good guy up there is Mark.

Our new bosses are in the boat of "Enthusiastic"..and wanting to get started to reverse the bad image. Sure they may jump the gun on things and maybe screw something up in the beginning, but that is to be expected a little at first. They are excited and can't wait to make their mark on the ski industry in this region.

There are a lot of good guys up there. ALL of them pitched in despite all the negativity and cloud of uncertanty these past few seasons to keep things running. No one stuck to just "their" jobs..they did everything and anything to keep the place operational. Personally myself I was garbage truck driver, snow plow driver, in the rental department..doing pics, running lifts..as was everyone else. No matter what people said or did to tear us down we made it work. Imagine for a moment what we are going to be able to do now.

  6. Just spotted this..I know it's old news but Thanks for the support..and yes...in the Winter being a bike shop owner things get real slow..REAAAL SLOOOWW! and Sno was the perfect off season position. Besides the shop I do photography as well, concentrating on extreme sports stuff...weddings and the like are boring.

Fluffy is right to a degree...when the BK was put in place we were all told to pretty much clam up..not an easy thing for me to do as I'm extroverted by nature..but everything media related had to go thru the trustee, even this message board..so, I had to reel in a lot.

By all means I contacted other resorts, namely Boulder/Frost...they are close, and if for whatever reason Sno did not re-open I figured with their real big extreme park set up they may jump at the chance to hire a photographer to concentrate on that for their media exposure. Who woudn't? Any print or internet media from Sno, all the pics are mine, so I look back at pride with what I did for Sno, and not only the pic taking department....I did as much as I could to help..and..we came out of it in pretty good shape and I'm proud to say I was part of it and am also proud to say it looks as though I will continue with the new management.

  7. Ok...all the fallout seems to be over and things are moving forward...job fair for the Summer months at Johnny Rockets was a big success and the water park is set to open around Memorial Day.

Since I'm not on the mountain too much this time of year I'll try to get updated info as thing progress..and..at this time I would ask the Moderator or administrator to pretty much after a few days here wipe this whole Sno Mountain folder out and give us a new "Montage Mountain" Folder and heading so we can start fresh and discard the old baggage.

  8. I apologize for my absence but all during the latter half of the bankruptcy with things in the air and a lot of uncertanty of what was taking place, even on a personal level, it was best to keep a low profile until things sorted out. I hope you understand.

    Anyway.....ahh hell..just read the article.

  9. ^Hmmm...we were working on updating the map & site...I noticed the same thing, but the map still shows the trails. I'm wondering if they are now including them in the "Glades" area..which btw is open as of yesterday. I'll check on that.

Long Haul is open as well now, as far as it running during the week...I could see it running at least up to and during $10 Tuesday, but I'll know more Saturday morning when I look at the staffing schedule for next week.

  10. Thanks for the report..I know, I'm a week late here..but regardless the more interaction we get from all of you the better. Was actually getting that sinking feeling on these few days that we were headed toward another disasterous Non Winter like last year....so glad that this has been replaced by the sight of snow and cold temps..with more snow on the way.

  11. I was there this morning with a friend. Saw KC but he looked busy and I was with a friend so I didn't stop to talk.

Never let that stop you...I'm never too busy to talk to anyone at any point or any location, even if it's standing almost vertical on White Lightning.

  12. Great day today. Arrived around 7:45, booted up and waiting for the ticket windows to open. On the way up we rocked out to Herman's Hermits, The Alan Parson's Project and Three Dog Night. After booting up we ran into KC who is a gentleman and a scholar. He welcomed us with open arms to his mountian. At that point NMSki arrived - who is a classy guy and a great skier to boot. After mistakenly getting on the lift that services the bunny slope we made our way down to the North Face. Conditions were top notch. Great job Sno. I'll call it Montage Magic Fluff and there was plenty of it. Seriously they must have blown sweet fan gun powder over night. White Lightning skied like a blue square. After lapping the North Face. we hit the Iron Horse for a top to bottom foray. We noticed the folks setting up NASTAR gates and I was hell bent on medaling so it was over to the NASTAR shack for a trial run back down to the Phoebe Snow via Boomer (I think). We headed back over to NASTAR. NM and JFDan skied their 2 runs but I wasn't leaving until I got at least a bronze. After coming oh so close a few times, I finally got my Bronze pin so I made my way down to the bottom the up the Phoebe Snow to meet JF Dan in the lot for a parking lot Rolling Rock. We were tempted to stop at Sheetz for Nachos but hit the Wendy's instead. Wonderful day at Sno plus it was great meeting a new PASR (NMSki).

I know KC values our opinions so I'll provide mine.

Pros - Snow conditions, NASTAR, grooming, customer service, prices

Cons - Lifts (The Iron Horse would stop every ten feet or so. It was frustrating when I was running NASTAR, coming one tenth of a second short then have to wait 20 minutes to get back up to the top of the course.) and the only other minor gripe. The ticket window needs to open earlier. They opened at 8:30 (right when the slopes opened) and a huge line formed, luckily we were up front.

It's been about 3 or 4 seasons or so since I've been to Sno and wont wait that long again. There are great people there working hard to put out a quality product so Head up to Sno throw them some love.

Sorry about the lift..we had a fault that was a SOB to locate...took a bit to nail it down. Funny, I myself was wondering why the ticket windows didn't open at 8:00 like the usually do, always pays to ask I guess, but..that won't happen again. Actually around 1pm we had to open all the windows....first time that has happened in a long long time we were that busy.

Glad I got a chance to meet some of you face to face and I hope it won't be the last time. I think I may have some of your pics in the NASTAR pic folder on the mountain FB...I'll link all the folders from the weekend in a bit.

Sorry I'm a bit short on comments and not writing my usual novel, but the past 4 days have been long & tiring, but at the same time great ones for Sno.

Really nice day at sno mountain, it was definetly an awesome change of pace from Frost. The snow was truly awesome today, and white lightning and boomer are definetly worth the price of admission.

We saw KC all over the place today, and he had his hands on pretty much everything, he is very visible, rather than sitting in an office, or posting online bullshit from behind a computer.

Met up with NMSki, good to make some turns with another Pasr.

i am definetly going to make a return trip for sure, i see no reason not to. The snow quality today was right up there with JFBB, and the one thing i noticed is they definetly have most of the mountain covered with fan guns.

KC, whats with the ticket window opening at 8:30? had a line of people there just dying to give the mountain money...thats my only gripe.

It could have been something to do with our printers and CC processing machines. We had some phone line issues during the week that kept knocking things offline and making a mess...but that is only me speculating....I do know on Sunday they were open at 8am.

  13. Thanks for the info KC. This is the price at the window, or do I need to purchase in advance?

    Just head to the window.

Super cheap for a weekend morning ticket....Blue is like $53

Why is morning ticket only 3.5 hours though?

Well..we open at 8:30 & to keep things from overlapping into another time slot. ....8:30 to 12, 12 to 4 & then the "4 for $50" starting at 4pm. It's a promotion mainly to get people to the mountain in what is usually a slower time of the day, so we decided to lower it to 25$ to get the early people.

  14. Jeez KC get some skis or a board...or maybe spiked tires for one of your bikes...

Keep up the good work, I hope the gang can keep Sno an ongoing venture!

I have Xcountry skis and always thought it would be neat to use them, at least getting around the base area. Haven't gone downhill since I had a knee replacement years ago.

As far as Sno....we're doing the best we can, just wish the media would stop killing us. All of us know the issues we face, we just hate getting it shoved in our faces every week.

  15. Nice Report. I was up there yesterday and the report about the Northface being epic right now is spot on. Perfect manmade conditions on White Lightning with no bumps yet is really just too epic to describe.

We should set up a PASR day at Sno this year, I'm sure KC would be able to hook us up.

Try Boomer for bumps..that was near perfection this past weekend. As far as the PASR Day...what do you need?
