  1. talked to stinksnow greg...he should be there by 7:30am with the radar gun.

It's on now beeach. You're definitely getting kicked out tomorrow...again!

The wife says, radar Gun = Problems with Ski Patrol

Personally I think Radar Gun = Trouble, trouble, trouble (Said in a Bernie Mac, Players Club voice)

    *Holy obscure movie references Batman*

  2. Bob..... what temp wax you got on those stix of yours ??

The weird temp swings are making the snow crazy lately for sure...

I want to visit BC sometime this year as I haven't been there since it was Doe Mtn. but is it really all beginner trails cause that would be enough for me not to make a trip back there...

Whatever the shop puts on. Same shop for the last several years with no problems. It's a tough call.

honestly if your a person that loves lapping steeps all day bear creek is not the place to go. id do elk or Vermont. they have 3 trails that you can rack up some speed on but they lead right into gaper city.

I just didn't like the new Slow skiing signs everywhere. Before you used to be able to casually motor down the whole slope to F Chair. Now you really can't. It's an excuse to get a whistle blown at by the ski patrollers, unless that is what you are looking for. :D

    Didn't they blow last night?

There was definitely fresh blown snow. It seemed like they groomed while blowing and then let a little extra blow on top. If the would have mixed it up a bit I think the outcome would have been much better. But, then again I am not a blown snow pro...

Really? Was is the 69 record temp the other day? Or the 44 degrees at 10am this morning that made it hard to understand that the snow would be slow?

Hey genius...In my experiance, usually when things melt and then get cold again the conditions are consistant. You know, it melts during the day and ices up at night, repeat. I think this explains the other sweet n low that was fabulous when you weren't on the glue. When we got there it was below freezing, hence their ability to blow, maybe? Do you ride a Burton? Do you go to Bear Creek?

No one else had any BBQ? I'm surprised.

  3. The wife and I got there early (8:00 ish) to beat the crowds that never showed up.

Thought "wow the trails are perfectly groomed" as we rode the lift up for the first run.

We were was sadly disappointed. Almost all of the trails were like skiing on glue with a little bit of sweet n low here or there.

It was a typical day of lifties concentrating on their radio's, hot chocolate/coffee, making the double line barely wide enough to fit a single, and sliding along the wood rail at F chair when your supposed to be slowing the lift when people are getting on it.

I also noticed that there were several slow skiing signs all over the mountain that I had not seen before. So this pretty much makes Bear Creek a beginners mountain except for 3 or 4 very short trails off of F chair. (not including the parks)

If you are thinking about going today and want to ski on glue, today will be perfect for you. It was almost like they groomed and made slow snow to keep things slow on the mountain. Who knows...

Look at the trail map on the web site and the amount of cars on the map in the lodge parking lots are a pretty close count to the cars that were in the lot when we left at 10:30 ish.

I was surprised to only see a few spots of solid ice with the recent weather. Maybe some other day will be better, unfortunately with a Killington trip this month and other Pocono Mountains to try this year I don't think we will be back this season to find out. There are just too many better choices out there that aren't as boredom incurring as BC for an extra gallon of gas or two.

    Enjoy!

ps- The Hillbillie BBQ on the way back down 100 south just passed Passmore Rd. on the right was awesome. Look for the Green trailer if you like good old smokey BBQ. The beans were awesome and I'm sure to love them later too! The wife, not so much! Happy Valentines Day Honey!:wub:

  4. Too bad I had to leave early, but it was fun this morning, nice to meet everyone, and I'm proud to say I hit the highest speed of the morning with my slowest skis...53mph :)

Wait... I thought your speed was 51 not 53?

    Here comes the pissing match...

    Gaper?

Considering I ski once a week (maybe) on 2-3 year old 1080 Twin tips, only when the weather and conditions are perfect, and the radar gun has a + or - 1 MPH accuracy, my 52 MPH pass wasn't to bad. I don't own FAST skis so I can't really compare on how they would perform, maybe next year.

This sounds like a game of pool where the player blames his cue. :P

    It Ain't the arrow, it's the archer...maaaaannnnn.

I'll end the pissing match now. Since it was down hill with a stiff wind and Mars was in line with Venus , I'd say the radar gun was off for both of us. Your speed was really 54 and my speed was really 51. Solved.

I also figured that I should mention that when I was holding the radar gun to go and clock others (and fell) I clocked myself at 55 MPH on my "fast ass spider pants".

    So there :lol

What's scary about Floyds according to the ski patrollers is that if you catch an edge you might eat bark...

Timber, man, TIMBER!!! Get it right.

i wish i could have made it up for this.

Yeah, GSS getting his groove on was priceless...

  5. Sexkitten..if you want to see PASRs..you stand at the top of the 6-pack..you know that...where was this mushy snow you speak of????

C'mon now. You know I can't afford to be standing around for who knows how long waiting for people. Especially since the new regime at Blue hath taken away the most critical half hour of any weekend ski day, 7:30 to 8:00.

Oh By the way. It would be really nice if all the open trails on the mountain were actually groomed and open when people get there not an hour or two after wards. I'm not thrilled with the "new" Blue but the conditions were good overall and it is still the best bang for the buck as far as travel and mountain are concerned.

Maybe we'll see you beeaches next week, if the weather is good :)

  6. I have some pics to add also. Unfortunately I wasted my Canon SD700IS camera today so I have to break out the SD card reader later tomorrow as we are heading out AGAIN to hang with some people tonight.

    Camera Tip:

When skiing gaper gear and the suit is a little tight, keep your point and shoot camera in a pocket all by its lonesome. I had it in a pocket with some Aveeno Lip crap and when I turkey tucked once (Very Gaper) I could feel everything tighten up and the lip crap totally screwed the fragile little lens this thing has. Oh well. Live and learn.

The funny part is I actually had the camera out and was filming a razors run previously for about half of the run and nothing happened. The video I wanted did not come out, though. The subject was just way way too FAST!

The still action pics did , however, come out pretty good so I'll post them tomorrow.

Today was a fun day and it's was nice meeting all of you. One of the best group fun days yet. (for me at least)

  7. Thanks.

I'm trying to bump the good threads and get views/replys. If people on this site want the nonsense to end we need to let the lame threads go away.

Here's an idea. Buy PASR and moderate it. Then you can do whatever you want.

Last time I checked places like the lounge have descriptions like "Not related to winter? Chat about it here!"

That basically means it's a free for all.

So here's yet another off topic post in a thread with some cool pics.

Also maybe when you say "pictures inside" people just look and move on that's why your views are higher than your replies.

Maybe next time you could say" Pictures inside, don't look without posting something, bitches"

Do these threads make you mad?

    Some people enjoy them...

Not 100% of your posts are winter / skiing / on topic...

    http://www.paskiandride.com/forums/index.p...mp;highlite=%2B

Really, does it matter that much? IMHO not really. Ignore the ones you could care less about and bump the ones you like. Its that simple.

Did I mention cool pics? :clap2

  8. Awesome..if you are struggling on your Tru Loves..maybe rent some fat skis..

Fat Ski's...I used to ski this shit on some cheap ass 185 stick skis. She don't need no fat skis. She can suffer.lol.

This Hotel is great. Covered parking underneath. Wireless Internet (no crap). I forgot how cold it is when you get out of a hot tub in the winter. Now if I wasn't still f*&%$#g coughing and sick. Sittin here watching Tru TV (Not reality, actuality)

Cops is cool, huh huh huh...huh huh huh.

  9. overall they are the best. being the best in 9 out of 10 categories and not being the best in another doesnt mean that it shouldnt be the best mountain. i dont think he said that they were the best at everything possible and nobody else compares to that. (i hate defending this guy who takes lessons in the park, but in this situation its necessary)

Blue is an all around OK mountain. They lack where other mountains in the area succeed. Bear creek, for example, has a better lodge than Blue. Camelback has better trails than Blue but it's not as close and it's customer service blows. Nothing like closing a lift without making an announcement first.

I'll just agree to disagree at this point. I have better things to do than argue with you, like pound sand.

I simply come to this forum to get an unbiased opinion of what is going on at the local mountains. I don't need the sales pitch from certain employees, other employees have great information.

The reality is, I don't spend a lot of money skiing anywhere. I have connections and get good deals or free tickets to ski about half of the time. I am a fair weather skiier and like conditions to be excellent if I am going to make the trek out. That being said have a great time this evening and see you at the Gates tomorrow morning.

  10. You're right.

Making comments about being the best mountain would have to include grooming, wouldn't it? Or is it OK to say we are the best everything all of the time except for what affects the quality of the trails you ski or board on...grooming.

  11. At Blue we are open to your comments and opinions but we have been voted the best ski area in the pocono's and we also have the best snowmaking crew and difficult trails in the area along with the highest vertical drop in PA.

Show me the old grooming schedule as compared to the new one.

  12. Thank you all for your kind comments and I hope to see you on the slopes at Blue, the Pocono's Best Ski area!!

In your opinion... reading some of the recent reviews Blue has some work to do to be "the Pocono's Best Ski area!!"

Although better than most, the word "best" is kind of a definitive term that most mountains hardly live up to, especially in PA.

  13. Now lets post logged on as me......

Yes...On the second or third trip down paradise backwards, I fell. Shit happens. I was getting bored and needed something different and figured I'd put the 1080's to work. I don't think I did too bad considering I was keeping pace with the wifey and passing others on the trail...except for the get-a-long gang of course

The rest of the day was cool. While I was making a few last challenge runs before leaving some 13 yr old was trying to show the wifey the big one...good boy now go find mommy and daddy....

On the last challenge run I got what felt like some mad air off of falls and almost lost it, but I didn't.

If I call my 1080's TT's instead of twin tips, does that make them faster? It feels like it...

  14. I think I should be allowed to use the ski school line. I don't have a good reason I just don't like to wait. Too bad I've never met Tretiak and therefore don't know what he looks like. If I had I could pull the "hey we're all friends here" move. Damn.

    Here's an idea....

Lets all strap RFID tags to our asses and blue can install special readers that allow you to pass to the front of the line through a turnstile, but at a cost of like $0.50 to $1.00 per pass. Kind of like the VIP haunted hayride passes at all of the stupid halloween events (sorry honey).

This could subsidize the race team stuff like a bake sale or candy bar fundraiser.

Not to totally bastardize this thread but I think this would work, really!!!

  15. We came ....we skied...we had fun...

Jeff is mad fast...I could only keep up if I strapped a rocket pack to my ass and tucked....Mythbusters style! Time to retire the Twin Tips.

We ate some grub with Jeff and Doug, the Scrapple was perfect...I missed out on the fired oreos but there's always next time.

Doug bounced a tennis ball back at Jeff and I was going to run for it but there was oncoming traffic and the ball rolled in to a puddle of leachate...oh well. It will make some kid happy some day.

The wife and I had fun today. See ya next time.

  16. BobLikesCatz can be seen straight running trails and spraying snow off his twin-tips..

I don't turn a lot because I have the need.... the need for speed. If you turn too much it slows you down. BTW, the second meeting point will be at the lower lodge around 10:30 for the FREE fried Oreos owed by a certain person. Hello Belleayre tickets. :naughty

  17. A more important change: flatten out the land at the entrance of the six-pack.

    I agree.

It shouldn't be an extraordinary amount of money. But I'm not going to speculate farther, not knowing any facts about landscaping...

However, as I said above, on thing Blue Mountain MUST do is regrade the entrance to the six-pack. It's tough to wait in any line for that lift because of the gentle downward slope, and once the liftie tells tells people to arrange themselves to get on the lift, everything goes to hell and people get mismatched. I can't stand it when the lifties get pissed that people aren't grouped in sixes to get on the lift because it's hard to do given the slope. Granted, sometimes people are just idiots (I saw one guy and his wife hold back from their group of six. Then he fell and the lift went over him. Once he recovered, he just sat down on the lift and then the liftie told him he had to move to the load line and wouldn't start the lift until more people got on that chair (to discredit the liftie, the this was around 8-9pm and the lines were short enough where it wasn't a big deal if he let them ride up by themselves, but that's another story. I think he just wanted to make a statement (though it wasn't a big deal))) (Wow, two nested parenthetical statements. I hope I said that correctly and nobody gets confused). But really, you can't always blame the skiers for not being able to load properly. Even I have trouble holding still on that slope.

    Are you a programmer?...

They need the 6-pack because it gets freaking crowded at Blue...crowds this season have been way worse than last season but liftlines are less...woo hoo for the 6-pack

The few times we have been there it seemed that the six pack is inefficient, most of the time carrying less than 6 people. Trying to coordinate 6 people that are strangers doesn't seem to work. There's always one person that eff's it up for the next groups. People are too stuck on the "I just want the 4 or 5 of us to ride together" or they simply can't count. Maybe I'm just over analyzing the situation. Once again. When we see the lines stacking up at the 6 and the quad we leave...
