  1. I think you may understand this already, but I wasn't totally clear from the posts above. It's $5000.00 per resort...so no one needs to go to all 4 resorts. You could do 1 poach and win the money....and regardless of how the people at these resorts feel about snowboarders, poaching or not, the only thing that will change the resort's rejection of snowboarders is the financial aspect. Bottom line is that I don't think the money is going to be at the forefront of why people poach this season...everyone understands the odds....what will drive people to do this is the fun of it, and you'll be able to share your videos on the Burton website. It's not always about the prize.

  2. I'm talking about all of the poachers who will attemp to poach those resorts combined will cost alot more than $5K. But it will only cost Burton $5,000.00. They got many times that in marketing already, and they haven't even paid the $5K yet! It's a great marketing ploy! I'd love to meet the guy who came up with it!

Check out the price of a ticket at those resorts. Deer Valley is $79.00. Just one boarder and one camera person are going to pay $148.00 for one run! Now multiply that times all the people who are going to try it at all 4 resorts. I'll guarantee you that each resort makes more than $5,000.00 each from this marketing campaign. And the fools paying for the tickets are giving Burton very, very cheap marketing. Why don't you ask if Burton will pay for your tickets, even if you don't win? I think we all know the answer to that one! Go ahead fools; Poach all you want. At all 4 resorts. Burton makes money. The resorts make money. You lose money. Unless of course you're the one person who wins. Remember, it's only one $5K, no matter how many people it takes to make the video. How much you wanna bet it will be a video with more than 2 people?

And the net result? The resorts will only be more convinced to not allow boarders. But Burton got their free marketing. Who's head should the $ signs be on now?

  3. Has anyone seen this yet? Pretty funny, I'm sure these 4 resorts are going to be seeing this alot this winter. It doesn't really bother me that I can't ride MRG, doesn't really appeal to me with minimal snowmaking capabilities and slow old school chairs, and I've heard Alta would suck for riding anyway...lots of flat traverses. Anyway, here you go....

12/18/2006 :: Upsidedown meringue clouds and Pennsy props.

    Added by: Luke

Clouds don't get enough props. Yesterday, Mount Snow was sitting pretty in fresh, warm, clean air. I could see for miles and miles, even Ascutney mountain way up north. But there was a perfectly flat, seamless blanket of clouds covering the entire valley. The clouds must have been 100 feet overhead at the summit of the mountain, so I had a perfect line of sight across the bottom of it. And the most insane part was that there were hundreds of swirling funnels hanging out of this blanket. It all looked like an upside down lemon meringue pie. I'll let the pic below describe it better.

You know who else doesn't get enough props? The mountains down south. They tend to be forgotten when considering "the East." Mountain Creek, NJ has a ridiculous freestyle setup with a cult following. And how about the Poconos in Eastern Pennsylvania? They may be small in stature, but they get crowds just as big.

A few blogs ago I asked anyone who knew of a bigger, badder park in the East than Mount Snow's Un Blanco Gulch to email me with proof. Kurt Schultz stepped up and represented his home mountain like any dedicated rider would: "Big Boulder (jfbb.com) has 23 rails/boxes/jumps up right now, but they're spread out over a few trails. The most on one trail is 11, some gorgeous rails and very well setup. It might not be 14 [un Blanco Gulch has 14 features] but it is in southern Pennsylvania and it is 55 degrees today and they've had about 1/3 the number of snowmaking days you guys have had, so they get some props in my book." You're damn right you guys get props. No one appreciates home mountain pride more than me, so keep shreddin' it PA-style and send some pics.

P.S. Can you guys bring me up a shorty hoagie and a butterscotch tastykake from WaWa when you come visit?

  5. Report Date: Friday, December 1, 2006 at 10:00 a.m.

Resort News: Killington Resort has suspended operations for Friday and Saturday due to weather conditions and will resume operations on Sunday.

We currently have hundreds of snow guns in position and snowmaking operations will operate Friday night and throughout the weekend resurfacing our trails and providing top-to-bottom skiing and riding for Sunday. Snowmaking temperatures are forecasted throughout next week, which will allow the world

  6. Kiilington will NOT be open this Saturday (Dec 2nd)

    They will re-open Sunday morning.

For those of you that were planning to go to VT this weekend (like me), Okemo will be the only place open with effectively 1 run plus whatever they can blow Friday night. They are offering $30 lift tickets though.

    See you there

This sucks, I was supposed to leave tonight for Killington. I wonder what the conditions will be like on Sunday. I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon now.

  7. So I have a trip to Killington booked with the fellas for the 2nd week of Jan. 07. :rock We're also looking at another trip in March, 3-4 days, would like to go to another east coast mt. within driving distance from Reading, PA. We could do Killi again, but want to look at some other options. Been to Killi, Smuggs, Stowe. Any suggestions?

Sugarbush is really good. Doesn't get as crowded as some of the other VT mountains. If you catch a powder day there, you'll love it. Riding in the trees there is awesome....their park could use some work though.

Mount Snow is one of the shorter drives to VT, and their parks are usually good....Plus they just added a 1 mile long park, the longest on the east coast, right by their pipe.

  8. At this rate, i wouldn't get your hopes up...

    F*CK THIS NOVEMBER RAIN!!!! :killyourself:

    Sugarloaf's Update

    This Week's Update

The latest weather report is in and it's looking like temps should be dropping back down into ideal snowmaking range by Friday night. We'll get those Low-Energy guns roaring as soon as we can and things are looking good for lifts to turn early next week.

There's still a good charge of snow up high on the mountain from our first round of snowmaking last week, and once temps are back in range it shouldn't take long before we have Tote Road blanketed in snow and ready for turns - 2 miles and nearly 2,000 feet of vert, all on the very first day.

Long range forecast is looking pretty wintery too, so make your plans now to spend Thanksgiving day on the slopes.

Winter's coming kids. Get excited. See you next week!

Check out the season's first round of snowmaking in this video that was shot last week.

  9. Flying out to Colorado for the weekend would take less time than the drive to Sugarloaf...I think the drive to the Loaf is even more than 9.5 hours.

I would drive to Colorado if I had more vacation time...haha.

Flying unfortunately is not an option....tickets aren't in my price range. My Honda Accord however, can get pretty far on a few tanks of gas.

  10. I can't handle walking past my board in the hallway anymore. If Sugarloaf's site doesn't change, and they actually do open this Friday, me and two friends are leaving Friday night for the 9 and 1/2 hr. drive to Maine.

I'm going to flip out if we get one more 75 degree day this month like Saturday! :banghead

Hopefully I'll have a TR and pics by Tuesday!

  11. Should be like any other goggle. and you won't scratch them unless you have glass coming out of your hands..

Undo the top part of the lense, then the bottom. Then to put them in, do the nose piece first, and work your way up to the top.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I tried playing around with them the other night, but no luck.... Thought maybe I was missing something.

  12. Would each resort split the total profit? :confused I have the AllforOnePass for VT, NH, and ME and it works because all 6 resorts are owned by the ASC, so no matter where you order it from, the money goes right into the ASC's pocket.

I was just skimming this thread, so maybe I missed the explanation of how each resort would profit off this equally....if so, my bad.

  13. Stowe Mountain Resort, Burton, R.E.D and Anon present the ?Last Trick? rail jam

STOWE, VT ?Next ski season is 175 days away. That?s a long time to wait for snowsport enthusiasts. That?s why Stowe has teamed up with Burton to host the ?Last Trick? rail jam this Memorial Day weekend.

A deep 400? foot long pile of snow on Lower North Slope, formerly Stowe?s halfpipe, will provide the surface for Stowe?s park crew to set up the rails and boxes for one more jam session. This free event is open to all skiers and snowboarders. Burton reps will set the stage with an MC, music, team riders, giveaways, prizes and more. Bring yourself, friends, beach attire, sunscreen and lawn chairs. This ones going to be a hoot!

    Date: Saturday May 27th

    Time: 11am to 1pm

Place: Stowe Mountain Resort / Lower North Slope / Mansfield area

Why?You have 100+ other afternoons to do other stuff this summer!

  14. Can anyone with 5 dollars get a park pass? I haven't been to a mountain with the pass system yet, just wondering how it works. Is it the 5.00 that keeps the noobs from getting a pass and going into the park? Just wondering exactly how you get a pass, can anyone with 5 bucks just buy one and get into the park?

  15. I have a 160 Prospect LTD. and I love it. It's got some great pop in the tail that you can definately feel when you're ollying(sp). It's light as hell, and it floats pretty well in the deep stuff.

I talked to the Basin ski and snowboard shop manager at Killington about the board and he said they have a tendency to crack at the tip if you land hard towards the front of it. He did say he's been on the '07 prospect already and was really amped about it, said it's a much better board. Who knows about the manager's advice though, he might have just been trying to talk me into a sale next season.

FYI, My '06's base has held up great with over 40 days out this year, never waxed, still fast!

  16. Stowe was great this weekend. No pictures (batteries were frozen), but we found some great powder in the woods. We did manage to get ourselves stuck at a stream crossing and had to hike about 100 ft. up and out on the first run of the day, but it was worth it. BTW, the woods where we got stuck were to the right of Nose Dive as you're looking at the mountain.

Only 1 snag all weekend. The FourRunner quad broke while we were on it, and unfortunately we were 1 chair back from the unloading area, which meant we were totally exposed to the summit winds, snow, and cold air. (Temp was 0 at the top). The wind was blowing hard from the right side and sh** luck for me, I was on the outside right of the lift, so I was taking the wind full on. The lift started back up after about 10 to 15 minutes but I knew I was in trouble 'cause the operator came out to meet me at the unloading ramp and was already pointing to my face before I was in earshot of him. He told me I had some bad frostbite on the right side of my face. He actually asked me if he could take a picture of it for their training seminars. I had a 3-4" porcelain white stripe on my face from the bottom of my goggles to my chin, the rest of my face was beat red. Kind of scary seeing the skin totally frozen and ghost white instead of just red, but the color came back after a few minutes and it seems to be ok now.

Trail of the day was west run. It was closed, but had calf deep untouched snow on it, so we had to poach it. Ski patrol was nowhere in sight so we hit it 4 times, and made fresh tracks every time.

Yesterday we hit up Killington. Best conditions I've seen all year. We got knee deep in a few areas. Parks were in awesome shape and the boardercross course was awesome. All the boilerplate ice was covered over and groomed, plus it snowed hard all day. Trail of the day was Swirl(?) I think it was called. It was the farthest trail to the right of the Ramshead header lift. Closed from top to bottom, but we poached it at least 5 times and were in the lightest natural snow I've been in since Snowbird. About mid calf to knee deep and perfect. Again, no Mark Millers anywhere in sight and fresh tracks every time. Definately the best weekend of the season.
