Making Turns

Making Turns (3/10)

  1. I think you may understand this already, but I wasn't totally clear from the posts above. It's $5000.00 per resort...so no one needs to go to all 4 resorts. You could do 1 poach and win the money....and regardless of how the people at these resorts feel about snowboarders, poaching or not, the only thing that will change the resort's rejection of snowboarders is the financial aspect. Bottom line is that I don't think the money is going to be at the forefront of why people poach this season...everyone understands the odds....what will drive people to do this is the fun of it, and you'll be able to share your videos on the Burton website. It's not always about the prize.
  2. Has anyone seen this yet? Pretty funny, I'm sure these 4 resorts are going to be seeing this alot this winter. It doesn't really bother me that I can't ride MRG, doesn't really appeal to me with minimal snowmaking capabilities and slow old school chairs, and I've heard Alta would suck for riding anyway...lots of flat traverses. Anyway, here you go....
  3. Steap and Cheap has the 06/07 Cartels for 109.00 http://www.steepandcheap.com/
  4. http://www.mountsnow.com/snowblog.html Mount Snow Blog 12/18/2006 :: Upsidedown meringue clouds and Pennsy props. Added by: Luke Clouds don't get enough props. Yesterday, Mount Snow was sitting pretty in fresh, warm, clean air. I could see for miles and miles, even Ascutney mountain way up north. But there was a perfectly flat, seamless blanket of clouds covering the entire valley. The clouds must have been 100 feet overhead at the summit of the mountain, so I had a perfect line of sight across the bottom of it. And the most insane part was that there were hundreds of swirling funnels hanging out of this blanket. It all looked like an upside down lemon meringue pie. I'll let the pic below describe it better. You know who else doesn't get enough props? The mountains down south. They tend to be forgotten when considering "the East." Mountain Creek, NJ has a ridiculous freestyle setup with a cult following. And how about the Poconos in Eastern Pennsylvania? They may be small in stature, but they get crowds just as big. A few blogs ago I asked anyone who knew of a bigger, badder park in the East than Mount Snow's Un Blanco Gulch to email me with proof. Kurt Schultz stepped up and represented his home mountain like any dedicated rider would: "Big Boulder (jfbb.com) has 23 rails/boxes/jumps up right now, but they're spread out over a few trails. The most on one trail is 11, some gorgeous rails and very well setup. It might not be 14 [un Blanco Gulch has 14 features] but it is in southern Pennsylvania and it is 55 degrees today and they've had about 1/3 the number of snowmaking days you guys have had, so they get some props in my book." You're damn right you guys get props. No one appreciates home mountain pride more than me, so keep shreddin' it PA-style and send some pics. P.S. Can you guys bring me up a shorty hoagie and a butterscotch tastykake from WaWa when you come visit?
  5. This sucks, I was supposed to leave tonight for Killington. I wonder what the conditions will be like on Sunday. I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon now.
  6. Sugarbush is really good. Doesn't get as crowded as some of the other VT mountains. If you catch a powder day there, you'll love it. Riding in the trees there is awesome....their park could use some work though. Mount Snow is one of the shorter drives to VT, and their parks are usually good....Plus they just added a 1 mile long park, the longest on the east coast, right by their pipe.
  7. That place is awesome. I stayed there for a weekend last year. The free breakfast in the morning is amazing.
  8. You could try the Mountain Inn...you can walk to the lifts at Rams Head from there, and their prices aren't too bad. http://www.mtinn.com/
  9. F*CK THIS NOVEMBER RAIN!!!! Sugarloaf's Update This Week's Update The latest weather report is in and it's looking like temps should be dropping back down into ideal snowmaking range by Friday night. We'll get those Low-Energy guns roaring as soon as we can and things are looking good for lifts to turn early next week. There's still a good charge of snow up high on the mountain from our first round of snowmaking last week, and once temps are back in range it shouldn't take long before we have Tote Road blanketed in snow and ready for turns - 2 miles and nearly 2,000 feet of vert, all on the very first day. Long range forecast is looking pretty wintery too, so make your plans now to spend Thanksgiving day on the slopes. Winter's coming kids. Get excited. See you next week! ethan Check out the season's first round of snowmaking in this video that was shot last week.
  10. Killington is definitely not opening this weekend. They're saying T-giving at the earliest. The Killington off season is now close to 200 days.
  11. I would drive to Colorado if I had more vacation time...haha. Flying unfortunately is not an option....tickets aren't in my price range. My Honda Accord however, can get pretty far on a few tanks of gas.
  12. I can't handle walking past my board in the hallway anymore. If Sugarloaf's site doesn't change, and they actually do open this Friday, me and two friends are leaving Friday night for the 9 and 1/2 hr. drive to Maine. I'm going to flip out if we get one more 75 degree day this month like Saturday! Hopefully I'll have a TR and pics by Tuesday!
  13. Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I tried playing around with them the other night, but no luck.... Thought maybe I was missing something.
