  1. Edit: I had a bunch of stuff written about why I do what I do, but honestly I don't care. I used to, but I really shouldn't be a mod anymore. I really think MB's do the best with almost no moderation, especially if they have an established user base. I'm here to hang out with friends now, and share what I know about PA and leaving it. I don't care if there are flame wars. They are entertaining to read, and join in, but it doesn't bother me like it used to that people don't get along. It doesn't bother me that people call out other peoples kids, it just makes me think less of them.

It is what it is. Maybe things will change and someone else will moderate the way you want them to, but I think I'm done with it for now.

Sorry to bring this off-topic again, but I just wanted to get this in. When it comes to moderation, I think when this board started we really wanted to keep things clean and civil and now, as Glenn said, it's entertaining to read and at least it lets you know who the real assholes are outside the board. As far as people not liking the board, I couldn't care less, it's not for everyone. I've said it many times, I'm not trying to make money off the site, and I haven't looked at traffic statistics all winter. I just want people to have a place to hang out. If people stopped posting tomorrow, I'd shut it down and wouldn't look back. I don't think the board needs to be moderated with an iron fist, and people just need to learn to deal with each other. Moderation should be reserved for flagrant disregard of rules, or illegal activity. Anywho, Glenn has asked to be removed as a moderator, and that will be done shortly.

With that... that's a big ol' mound of snow.

  2. Thanks for the link PARR, good stuff. Greg, thanks for stopping in and chatting a bit, it's always nice to have some interaction between sites. Completely aside from the original topic and a little late, I agree partially with the things being said about industry-insider posting and the like. While I think it's hugely valuable to have these types of folks coming on and letting us know what's up, I also think it's important to have real dialogue (this certainly doesn't include "he's an ass") with these professionals about their trade. I'd much rather have no participation, than to not allow people to criticize and ask questions, I think a "they're always right" attitude is the wrong way to go about things. I can't say I've read a ton on AZ, and I have no clue what their stance is to these type of things, so this is certainly not a bash on them.

As far as growth goes, I'm sure bits and pieces of what has been said is true. We have a relatively young (and sometimes immature) audience here. I know there are people who are turned off when they visit and see some of the shenanigans. That's when I would challenge everyone to make the site what they want it to be. Stand up for things and talk... As Greg said about his Hunter guys, 2 folks came on and changed perception on the board. People tend to have influence when they speak in the correct tone. P'steeze, as for drawing a comparison between NS and here, we've been through this a million times. First off the audience is a huge difference. NS is talking to every rebelious 9-16 year old (and you) who lives anywhere near snow. Our Niche is people who love to ski in PA. it's a much smaller market and one I'm fine with. One of our big disagreements when we worked together back in the day was that I didn't want this place to be a mass marketing machine. I wanted it to be a fun place where people could come and talk about fun skiing in and around PA. I think we achieve that. By the way, we're doubling in activity every season, which may be small growth in terms of NS or AZ, but it is certainly not "idle".

Anywho, that's my thought on the subject. Thanks for stopping in, Greg.

  3. PASkiandride.com will be hitting up Camelback on Saturday, February 10th! Come on out and meet the people you've been chatting with. There will be several meet times during the day to accomodate the early birds and the late sleepers. Post here if you plan to come!

  4. Alright everyone, next Saturday is the PASR day at Jack Frost! As a little early bird special, the first bunch of members who come and visit with us between 8:00 and 8:30am in the Jack Frost cafeteria (I'll make myself noticeable) will receive a free lift ticket for the day! Supplies are limited and I cannot guarantee anyone a ticket, but the earlier the better! We have a bunch to give away and it's first come, first serve! See you there!

  5. Ski, I'm glad things got resolved. I don't think what I said should have been construed as jumping on you. I thought it could have been handled differently and that's why I said what I did. Notice I didn't close or delete your threads, or even tell you to stop. What I was trying to get across is that Craig would take your case just as seriously in private as in public. I understand your frustration, and I know how upset you had to be that day in that office.... Look, I'm just glad to have someone from CB who's actually willing to listen now. I think we should take advantage of that and treat him with the respect we'd expect to be treated. No harm meant.

  6. I think it was great information that I can pass on to my friends about the height thing, that I would not have gotten otherwise.

I agree with you, that's why there's still a whole other thread about it :) My point is there is no need for a thread about taking 13 days to get $22 unless you've exhausted all other options, or you're just out to embarass someone.

  7. Come out and join us on Saturday, January 27th at Jack Frost! A meet time and location will be determined shortly, but the plan is to start at Jack Frost, and possibly make our way over to Boulder later in the day.

Post here if you plan to come and meet up with us! If there is anyone who thinks they can get some type of ticket hookup, let me know.

    See ya on the snow!

  8. I can't believe people are complaining about them opening after spending this whole warm spell complaining about them being closed you people are never happy, you should stop the complaining and be happy we have what we've got.

I agree with you... sometimes you just have to remember you're on the internet and people think that gives them free license to complain about EVERYTHING and never just be grateful for what they have.

  9. Greg, are you kidding? CB is counting on people not airing problems. That's one reason they shut down their own MB.

So when a ski area calls a paying customer a liar, refuses to measure a child that is 45" and makes you pay for a junior ticket, then pretends they are the manager, we can't make fun of them?

Are you really telling me not to post that Craig said he was sending me a check 13 days ago and it's apparently taking the long way here?

Hey, this is your MB...just delete the thread and ban me for being a troublemaker for CB. You're the boss...

BTW, Greg, did you notice the fair assesment of CB I gave to the lady looking for a program for her 4 and 6 yr old?

Hey dude, I was just sayin', Craig seems like a reasonable guy and I figured he could have taken care of this in private, where it belongs. It's all good, you know it's not my style to delete things because it makes someone look bad. Bashing on CB for the sake of bashing, for me, doesn't have the same appeal with Kulish gone. This guy will actually talk like a human with you, so I would just hope people would take him up on that. That's about it :) You're entitled to air your laundry if that's how you want to deal with it.

  10. Lets just hope the park is in decent shape. You guys should add a few more learning things like the barrel bonk. And when we say a few small hits. That means more than one? Hopefully bigger than it was last weekend. The jump was basically a roller.

Anything will be bigger than last weekend, remember... they were closed! Cut em some slack!
