  1. Yep. I tend to hang out around Crotched, Mt. Snow, Attitash, and Wildcat but grew up on JF and BB. Still get 5-10 days a year in the Poconos.
  2. Assuming you’re getting a taxi / car service / Uber from Salt Lake City airport if your staying at the St. Regis deer valley (based on earlier photos in the thread). The hotel has an upper and lower lobby, the lower lobby forces you to take the “lift” to get to your room. None of which has to do with detachable suspended chairlifts and their line speeds. Nor does that house in Tahoe.
  3. Just get the car to drop you off at the upper St. Regis if your gonna ski deer valley, why add 15 minutes to your check in time?
  4. Yeah, short line doesn't limit line speed. Stowe's got a gondola that spans a parking lot, little-to-no elevation gain and station-to-station is less than 1500 feet. Is a short detachable feasable? Yes. Are they expensive as hell to operate and maintain? Also yes.
  5. There's a couple, right? Both in beginner areas, First Time Express and another new one that went in a few years ago.
  6. What's the vert on the quad? Sullivan's Express at camelback has a similar profile and is a high speed. ~670 ft of rise with a total length of 2700 feet. It isn't as fast as most detachables but it still hauls compared to fixed grips.
  7. We have enough lift maintenance and operations issues without bringing grip replacements and complex gear boxes into the mix...
  8. I can’t imagine vail in its current state shelling out for something high speed for frost. Higher speed fixed grip with a loading carpet, maybe, but nothing detachable. edit: MAYBE a used detachable, like they did at crotchet, but nothing’s on the market
  9. I live outside boston but got a place near Mt. Pocono. Do love commaraderie, and good parking lots
  10. Having not skied it, can I ask what the appeal of blue is?
  11. Is every thread on here a blue mountain thread? Sounds like I need to ski the place
  12. Opening dates are probably predicated on operating insurance start dates rather than weather forecasts, although weather probably has a lot to do with how those dates are determined. Given everything is under vail’s umbrella now, every mountain probably got negotiated with a single underwriter as part of a single deal, hence most vail mountains announcing opening dates today. curious to see what keystone & a-basin do this year given their little contest last year...
  13. Just went up on instagram, JF&BB are slated to open 12/11. Date is mountain specific, other epic mountains each have their own projected date. Let's see how far back this get pushed...
  14. I think at this point I'm not going to purchase anything without demoing it. That said, think I'll need to be out west at the right time in order try out some sticks from ON3P. Variants are stiff and stable, almost to a fault, practically had to re-learn how to ski in order to ski them hard. Great on boilerplate but nearly killed myself a few times taking them through trees at Mad River Glen after a 6 inch dump this past winter. Only thing that's turned me off the jeffreys was their quasi-park focus, I don't need a park ski, but maybe those are the right ski for me.
  15. I've been eyeing the woodsman for a bit, regret not picking up a pair in this spring's factory finds sale. I just need someone to tell me they're more playful than my liberty variants and I'll pull the trigger
  16. Nothing better than when you can ski happy land, drop elevator, and get into some other stupid shit all on the same day
  17. Are those ON3P skis on the east coast? I’d recognize those green base layers anywhere.
  18. Jumped off the east mountain lift too! Was like 13. I'm sorry to the guy behind me who called me a dumbass, I didn't drop my wallet, I had just watched someone do it in a Warren Miller film and wanted to look cool. We should get flair or something for East Mountain lift jumpers.
  19. Yeah a friend has a tannenbaum chair sitting on his patio, it was a right place right time sort of deal. I want to be in that right place this time around, obviously if I see something come up I'll post about it here
  20. Glad to know the chair I spent the better part of my youth riding was slowly cracking. That’d explain the chairs with the pink flag tape on them for sure. Not sure what happens to old chairs, but if they head for scrap rather than retail, I’ll offer up a $400 finders fee to anyone who can help me save a chair from the scrap heap.
  21. What makes you say that? Also, do we know what’s wrong with it? I feel like the gearbox issue at attitash was well known when it happened, all I’ve seen on the quad was a sign apologizing it was closed for the season, a no trespassing sign, some chairs flagged with pink tape, and new bolts overhead some chairs.
  22. New to the site, but grew up skiing in NEPA 20 years ago (remember split rock’s ski hill?). I’m a transplant from New England who likes to ski with my dog, have been fortunate enough to have Tuckman’s ravine and the like available for us to hike/skin up and him to run down, but am looking to try the same experience in the local area. If we get the snow for it, we will be out in state parks/fire roads/utility access/abandoned tracks and the like earning a few turns. If anyone’s got any suggestions, hopefully this becomes the spot for them. Weather willing, I’ll update our trials and failures here as the temp. dips below freezing.
  23. Yeah, the black forest lift runs nearly the same lift line as Merry Widdow I and Merry Widdow II, two double lifts that share a single set of towers. It's typically been closed the past 5+ years but the cable was derailed a couple of years back without ever being repaired. I can't imagine with the duplicate capacity and the lift's current state that it's going to be brought back to life, unless someone knows more than I do. I feel like if the lift is toast those chairs are bound for scrap or going to go up for sale.
  24. Thanks, quad drama over at JF turned me on to this place, been lurking for a bit, first time posting
  25. Anyone have any idea what's going on with the lifts at boulder? Was walking the dog earlier around the base and it looks like every one has had at least some chairs pulled off (except Merry Widdows). Seems like they might be reducing the number of chairs and re-spacing what remains. Also looks like black forrest lift is at the end of its life, the cable was pulled off the towers and strewn in the parking lot and its counterweight was cut loose. Any rumors if loose chairs might go up for sale, figure they'd make a great porch swing.
