  1. Is the rental shop at BB open?
  2. Has anyone heard yet when they plan to start making snow at JF, and when they will open?
  3. Hey Can we get any more formal announcement? Has it been posted on any JFBB sites yet? How did you find out about it Papasteeze...want to get a more solid confirmation before I make any plans!
  4. Read the quote again before commenting... Not everything in the world is patrolled...some things are OPEN and not patrolled, but they are OPEN that is the key. An area that is CLOSED and is usually patrolled but since it is closed it is not is not an area you should be in. I am amazed that it takes 2 pages on a forum to discuss that you shouldn't go to a ski area when it's closed and try to hike it and ski it. It is a crime and it is unsafe...I can't find how "my" logic is silly. ***Remember...I do believe the JFBB/Peak Resorts higher ups read these forums, and they usually have someone at JFBB working daily doing something, don't you think they will be mindful people will do this and be ready and catch and press charges for trespassing.***
  5. Well it depends...if they are designated trails or areas for it and they are OPEN you definitely should, but if they aren't designated areas and they are CLOSED then you shouldn't. Common guys...this is a ridiculous argument. Every designated alpine ski area is patrolled during the season for a reason. It's closed but it will be open on May 5. It's a dumb idea to do it, that's it. I mean it's illegal because it's trespassing and it's dangerous because it is not maintained or patrolled.
  6. I don't believe going to jail or getting a citation should be the reason to not hike JFBB, the reason is skiing/snowboarding can be a dangerous sport. That's why when it is open it is staffed by fully certified National Ski Patrollers. Beginners aren't the only ones that can get injured! The mt. is not patrolled during the off season, therefore if you are injured and can not remove yourself from the slope it could be hours or days before anyone will find you...that can be fatal. Believe me it's even dumber to think that it won't happen to you. We are all bummed the season is over. Get your bikes or blades out and go have fun at a park. We are lucky they are opening for a rail jam in May. Be smart, and stay safe...don't do something stupid.
  7. My guess would be NO! It doesn't seem like a very smart idea either, especially to do it alone. Stay off for now, but don't worry May 5th will come soon and it will be open again for some Spring Skiing/Boarding fun.
  8. Call BB and speak to the Director of Ski Patrol at BB. I am sure that would be the best way to find out if you could do that. By the way most patrollers are volunteers, very few are paid.(Not because of ski level just because they can commit to certain hours)
  9. I find it to be the STUPIDEST thing for people to enter Closed trails. Ski Patrol DOESN'T close trails for the hell of it, wake up people. They close trails because they are UNSAFE, not because they like to. Now if you want to use the excuse that thats where the best snow is, you are beyond wrong, the snow in there is unsafe, you don't see Ski Patrol free skiing in them for a reason. Any number of things can be in there and exposed i.e. rocks, piping, hoses, snowguns, downed trees, SNOWCATS, ect. But all that aside the most important fact is Ski Patrol DOESN'T sweep those trails at the end of the day. If you get hurt in there and for any number of reasons aren't found in the "Golden Hour" your injury that may have been easily taken care of can now become FATAL(that means you DIE!). No more skiing ever again because you made a stupid move. Would you drive on a "Closed Road" with all those signs that say "Do Not Enter, Closed". No you wouldn't and if you would you need your head examined. It is unsafe. Don't Do It! People caught skiing or riding in closed areas should be arrested and fined for Trespassing. It is trespassing because it is marked Closed and not open to the public, it would be like going onto a football field that is closed because you want to play there instead of at the one down the block that is open. I have no tolerance for the brilliant minds that ski or ride in closed areas.
  10. It is a wonderful thing that the patrollers here on the East Coast can recognize and close down unsafe terrain. Just a little FYI for everyone on here, Ski Patrollers on the East Coast attend seminars and clinics to become certified by the National Ski Patrol in Avalanche Fundamentals, Avalanche I, and Avalanche II. (The same training West Coast Patrollers Receive). Unlike the West Coast Patrollers here on the East Coast those courses are not mandatory. But it is very rare that a patroller would not continue his or her training with the NSP's Continuing Ed. Programs. Every Patroller strives to become as well informed and trained as possible to better serve the skiing and riding public. It's great we have them, and it's great that almost all of patrollers in the US are volunteers out of the about 27,500 National Ski Patrollers here in the US.(Not that the paid ones aren't GREAT, we are lucky to have them too, it's just great to see how many volunteer) They are passionate about what they do.
  11. I am so sorry to hear that Method. Listen to your Doctors you don't want to mess around with your spleen. Your Doctors are right, the spleen just like the liver is a blood soaked organ. Be careful and make sure you refrain from ALL activities. Remember: abdomen pain, shoulder pain, nausea, weakness are some of the signs to look for with regard to spleen problems. Don't push away the signs as nothing, get them checked. Sorry had to offer up that little bit, hope you get better soon Method! Stay in touch on here!

    Snowed by rangers

As I said, they are each taught differently and have trained to take down the Toboggan. Taking down a toboggan anywhere is a talent but a steep for ski and snowboard patrollers is definitely something that is perfected. Snowboard patrollers have a completely different handling of the toboggan when taking it down compared to their brother and sister patrollers on skis. Both have learned their technique, mastered it through many many many days of training(even years), and are both exactly as capable of taking down a toboggan. The only problem snowboard patrollers would have is that skate portion at the end of the trail.(Thats why you have snowmobile drags and fellow patrollers) (But all the Emergency Care training is standardized among patrollers)

Just want to clear things up, Snowboard Patrollers are as efficient as Skiing Patrollers. Both go through intense trainings in their preferred method of patrolling. If in any way a type of equipment was not suited for patrolling the National Ski Patrol would not allow it. There are 3 types of Alpine Patrollers: Telemark, Skiing, and Snowboarding. All are trained properly to function as any other patroller out there. There is no better patroller when it comes to skiing, telemarking, or snowboarding. Each one deserves a ton of praise for accomplishing and passing through National's training curriculum. Each discipline has been thought out and is trained in a certain way so that all Basic Alpine Patrollers can function on the same level.
  14. They can only cover so much of the mountain dude. Im sure you didnt make any attempt to get them there either. Most ski patrol calls one patroller told me is from family and friends and other guests that see someone hurt and tell someone. Then they quickly mobilize to respond. They are never far so once the page comes out they are all over it. Next time tell someone to get ski patrol or just wait a few more minutes and someone will ski by. Sorry Illusion154, the only reason I come so quickly to their defense is because of how they have treated me, my family, and my friends. I have yet to have even a little issue with them. Its comforting for me and im sure many other families to know how good they are at JF.
  15. I have to disagree illusion154. The Ski Patrol at JFBB especially JF are definitely not pricks. I have a lot of friends that have been hurt at JF some even serious and I thought the JF Ski Patrol was very courteous and professional. I have rode up the lift with several patrollers and have seen people wipe out, and I have turned to the patrollers and said so what do you guys do about that. They watch, and then if they can tell for sure the person is injured they will radio it in. They said unfortunately so many people lay there and arent hurt that everyone who falls cant be radioed in. They say they will personally ski over there and check it out. I have all but praise for the Jack Frost Ski Patrol and the dedicated men and women on it. I have been to many resorts and they seem to be some of the most professional and dedicated people. Did you know most are volunteers you see? I had a friend once on the Bear Creek ski patrol but he isnt there anymore so I used to ski with him alot and now I spend alot of time at JFBB with friends so I have interacted with quite a few.
  16. Were you taken off by Ski Patrol or did you just get up and go to the hospital later?
  17. Someone once told me that after the first of the year the power prices sky rocket. They said they get some sort of discount until then but after it just jumps up too much. I think its more cost efficient to make snow at night and on weekends now. I am not positive but thats just what I have heard.
  18. Sorry to interrupt the car discussion, but I have a weather question. Which is a more reliable site to use...accuweather or weather.com??? Or is there a better/more accurate one? Just looking for the best way to determine what it will be like while skiing... Thanks!
  19. Hey... I will be at JF this weekend hopefully sat., sun., and mon. Who else is heading out there? It should be a nice weekend with everything reopened with new snow bases.
  20. Hey... So I spoke to some Ski Patrollers about the comments you made about response time. And they made some good points. 1.) Weekdays have few patrollers on duty(about 10) 2.) Bad weather and busy days with few patrollers on duty keeps them in stations(This is so that they can respond quicker to a call when one comes in) The Patrollers i talked to said on days with less patrollers they count on the public to tell someone. They said unfortunately they cant be everywhere. Since they are in stations when there are few patrollers when the call comes in from a Lift Attendent they can quickly respond. If no one says anything they said it will just take longer to find out for themselves. Sort of like the Ambulance/Police/Fire do, they can only respond when they get a call, if they dont get a call it takes longer to respond. One Patroller i spoke too said JF is lucky to have so many patrollers on busy days that they can ski around and make their presence well known, but on days with less the patrollers said they have to be in an area where they can respond to any call on the mountain when it comes in quickly. The Patroller i was talking to said if you come across an accident scene: 1.) Cross your skiis in the snow about 10 feet up hill from the accident. 2.) You stay with the person. 3.) Send someone to tell a Lift Attendent or another patroller about the accident.
  21. Thank God someone said it to him... Thanks jkb111... Its amazing that JFBB has the -Best Snow around -more terrain open then the majority -amazing grooming -perfect ski conditions in terrible weather -and the best terrain parks out right now that some people still have the nerve to complain. Peak Resorts deserves so much praise for what they have done and have open. (P.S. the only thing i would recommend them do more of is Public Advertisement; get the word out more about how great the conditions are at JFBB and try and pull in the NY and NJ crowd like Shawnee does with Billboards in NY) GREAT JOB PEAK RESORTS AND THE MANAGERS AT JFBB!!!!
  22. It really really is... Please...Please...Please End It... It is over... Let's please move on... How about we start a thread on things JFBB can do to help keep the parks great?
  23. I am sorry but I did have to add this in...I really wanted to stay out of this topic. But Oakley21, Peak Resorts did own JFBB last season. They were not fully in but yes Peak Resorts were the owners of JFBB for the 2005-2006 ski season. I have to agree with Papasteeze, the season is too short to bicker like this. Get over it please, I enjoy reading this forum but lately reading the same things over and over again just worded a little different is very annoying. How about we now dedicate this to what Peak can continue to do to make their parks stay so great. Lets stop wasting breath on issues that are in the past. The Horse Is DEAD, I swear. Have a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season! HAPPY HOLIDAYS, Everyone!!! Hope to see you all on the slopes at JFBB this Ski Season...
