  1. Really? I think Mark just said the 7th and 9th of December.
  2. Alright, thanks for the update BC Mark. It is very much appreciated.
  3. It would be sick but I don't see that happening ever. Even during hella good years Bear still only opens the beginning of December. Granted they have much better snowmaking in place now. However when you get a nice early start resorts usually use it to open with more terrain/better conditions on their usual opening days, rather than push the envelope to open earlier with sketchier conditions (there are exceptions, like old Killington). That and I don't think Bear has ever made snow regardless of weather conditions before Thanksgiving.
  4. An early December opening would be great. If we can get four good months in I'll be very impressed.
  5. Looking at accuweather maybe they'll start making snow by Thanksgiving.
  6. The 8th or 9th weather cooperating is what I usually say.
  7. If they have the conditions they won't postpone opening solely on instructing new employees. They'll reschedule it or give they're new cafeteria slaves a crash course on how to deal with a bunch of hungry shreds screaming for a hamburger.
  8. I can think of more people who smoke at BC than those that dont. Most of them dont actually work though. It's wierd though, so many smokers outdoors, getting excersice. Ironic I guess.
  9. Then there's the 9 hours back after a short one day of riding.
  10. They never called me back about working in rentals. Guess that means I'm off the hook... now how to pay for gas...
  11. Not bitching at Elk per se. It just doesnt seem like it has a very laid back attitude. Usually they'll let you go once or at least nicely tell you that you'll need to get another ticket to keep riding. The guy there wasnt very nice about it even though they didnt have a working clock at the lift. He basically looked at his wristwatch and told me to take a hike. Neither do I make poaching a practice. Not paying to ride is basically like not paying for your dinner.
  12. Elk's the only mountain where they denied my at the lifts for having a ticket that expired 10 minutes before, and there was basically nobody riding that day either.
  13. TEMPLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I'm def going to that.
  14. Destroy this thread please.
  15. Or their 30ft wide magic carpet... for their new superduper pipe that nobody can get out of.
  16. I should have been born 15 years earlier...... or 15 years later depending on how much I want to capitalize on modern medicine.
  17. Getting 25 new guns a year is nothing compared to getting almost 200 all at once. Elk needs to step it up or its gonna get outpaced really quickly by the newer shinier mountains in the area.

    La Nina

equals mild winter. hit up noaa to see for yourself http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2007/2...teroutlook.html Usually when I see a report like this I dismiss it with the usual "they cant predict anything more than a week away" response, but now I dunno. This fall has been really warm so far and saying it'll be warmer on this planet is becoming like saying the sun will come up tomorrow. I'm so depressing...
  19. Its just that Ski Magazine reviews often weigh heavily on off-hill amenities, which Elk is lacking. It just seems odd that they always get #1 in PA, let alone top 10 on the east coast.
  20. I rode at Elk once a couple years ago in the beginning of January. The mountain faces due north, it was cold as hell and I swear its PA's windiest mountain. We had wind chills in the single digits all three days I was there. They had maybe a third to half of their terrain open, the conditions on some trails was nice but on others it was pretty sketchy (icy). They have this idiotic practice of blowing snow on one trail at a time, and most of their snowguns need to be towed around on those stupid sled things. Oh, their park was absolutely non-existent, even when they have it open it doesnt look like its worth the time. Their expert terrain was icy and while the extra... challenge, was interesting it sure wasnt enjoyable. To sum it all up Elk seems like a fun mountain to cruise around when they have ideal conditions. Other than that I'd probably rather go elsewhere if I had to choose over different Poconos resorts. How they beat out most New England resorts is beyond me. Hell, they dont even have a hotel like friggin Bear Creek... geez.
  21. I thought it would have been Copper. They were the first to blow snow. A-basin's cool thought, they finally beat out Loveland.
  22. Personally I think Bear's pipe is too slow. On good days when the walls are nice and tall you can get some good speed going but as soon as the sun hits the one side it just falls apart. and whats Diamond/Icon's deal?
  23. The only reason said nowhere hill opened was because they had a big lead on elevation and a lot of luck with early season coldness. It'll snow in the North Carolina/Tennessee hills in late March or April. Good sized storms that drop about a foot of snow too. The mountains down south top the ones up north for elevation.
  24. I definitely recommend it. Seven Springs is good too but its more crowded and personally I like the Knob's terrain a lot more but the Springs has got the park.
