  1. My 11th season up here and it's pretty much a shit sandwich weather wise making it one of the worst so far. They opened M2 during the holiday week briefly. Currently pouring rain at 2AM. Very limited trails available. On the bright side, I only paid $199 for my season pass. When I refilled my card they prompted me for the Seniors rate but that applies to age 71 and up.

  3. Weather in the notch has been hanging at or near freezing with a handful of days near 0 or single digits. we've had 2 decent snowfalls and some intermittent flurries, but nothing boner worthy at this point. Looks like Madonna (M1) should be opening Friday. Saturday might be warm with light rain turning to snow into Sunday, but no big dump based on current forecast. Basically doing 3-5 laps a day just to keep busy and work the legs. I didn't get the Epic pass this year, if I can't travel west, just skiing Stowe occasionally isn't worth the $ for me this season.

Thanks for the reminder. I definitely need to get to work on that. I have some ideas and I think I'm leaning towards something with wooden seats. I like doing woodworking when I can so it seems like it would be a nice addition. Maybe something like this?

That'll require some metal work to build legs for it unless you plan on hanging it like a swing.

  5. Lastly, but most importantly, my dad was stranded in Germany from March 2020 to June 2021. He Amtraked up here for a week for thanksgiving and his 86th birthday. We talked about a ski trip overseas in the spring, but all the unvaccinated dipshits are fucking things up. When did 40% of the population go retarded? The last 5 years have been a serious embarassment and will mark another dark chapter in american history. And it's still bad. Untitled.thumb.jpg.eccc19556d5b6838afb75dc1aceccc9d.jpg

Thanks for posting Moe Ghoul.  It would be cool to have you as a bartender.  108 notch road is a nice drive and I spy Liberty and Morgan dollars..

Good eye, bars in JH use Carson city 1/2 dollars. I went with $1 coins to keep up with inflation.

  7. Currently working 3 bar shifts at the Morse Mountain Grille at Smuggs. 5 minute ride versus 2+ hour round trip to Stowe is a nobrainer. Free ski pass and access to the pool, 40-50% discounts on everything including ski tunes. My shift starts with laps before work and a swim after work. It's a Moeghoul triathlon. Ski, run around at work, swim. I plan to lap Morse Mountain tomorrow and ski right to the grille, lock my gear, and do a Superman routine sans phone booth. I'll wear my swimsuit, followed by my work clothes and put my ski clothes on over it. It's all in the staging and planning to maximize livin the dream, yo.

  8. "BFD, Do you ski?" well, sure, I do what I can. This season started with an employees only Wednesday after getting close to 8" the night before. Felt like a good start, but it's december in VT. We rollercoasted thru several drench and torch moments, with a 10 incher that was a nice re-set, but we are still in limited terrain mode and OB is too risky for me right now. Next weekend has some foot plus potential...IMG_8459.thumb.jpeg.7204ed3e951c879bec67eb34f09b121a.jpegIMG_8458.thumb.jpeg.e646532ab44bd84383f5906aac06a501.jpegIMG_8460.thumb.jpeg.dd7b74e6e0bfb2720a70366b3dee8abb.jpegIMG_8463.thumb.jpeg.1c2065ae9e37d55fca506a7b73fc193d.jpeg

  9. Then I decided I needed to rebuild the hot tub. 20 years old, one pump died, so I replaced all the pumps, the motherboard, the heater, and the control panel. Runs like new and hopefully outlives me. I got some parts at a pool/spa dealer in Colchester. My tub 2021 model costs 13,000-15,000 new depending on bells and whistles. $1600 for new parts was the better option.IMG_8416.thumb.jpeg.9c962db5133499e8dd19b4f72983377f.jpegIMG_8430.thumb.jpeg.da016dadfb6d7b53da1392737ae71c6b.jpeg

  10. What's going on up there, you ask? Spent May to October working at Spruce Peak Lodge 50ish hours a week, a place the size of the largest cruise ship spread over 6 city blocks, chronically understaffed and run by McHale's Navy. And I'm being nice. I had a dozen good reasons to quit, the final nail in the coffin was when the sled dealership informed me that due to supply chain issues, my sled was not delivered. So, knowing the shortcut thru the notch would be closed shortly, I quit. I had to finish building my deck and move 2 cords of firewood and I was running out of daylight and weather. The upside is: I can keep my bennies thru COBRA which turns out to be $350 cheaper per month than a plan thru BCBSVT and I got dental and vision as well. If I knew that, I woulda quit the day after I was eligible and signed up. Some projects porn:

    Palates of Bluestone: 75lbs/each x 60 = 4500 lbs

Me and 2 friends putting in the precast peers in May. Thereafter, I ended up building the whole thang alone.

Well I know which bar I’m going to next time I’m up in Stowe! Congrats moe, sounds like VT is treating ya well. Hoping I can get back up that way this summer for a few days on the bike.

Spruce Peak lodge is doing a major renovation in the lobby and restaurant/bar. They've been doing the guest rooms as well. Remodeling won't be done until November. Cutting it pretty close. If yer in my neck of the woods, stop by.
