RIP jake

This is just awful. Things change in an instant.

  2. Its like a broken record this winter - storm after storm tracks too far west and we get dumped with rain.

This just stinks.....been planning for weeks for an extended family daytrip to CB on Saturday....all the cousins skiing together for the first time.

  3. But the team has moved on to balance drills which include leaving one ski at the bottom of the hill and navigating the mountain on one ski.

My kids did a ski race camp over the Christmas break at Smugg's and HATED doing that drill.

They still complain about that. So now I have proof that others do this drill.

But that's awesome news about Ty.....WAY TO GO!!!!!

  4. No doubt yesterday's rain was depressing and now I'm seeing buds on the trees and green growth appearing on the bushes.

What's all this about a potential nor-easter this weekend? Will it be rain or snow for the slopes?

  5. Lame, on mutliple accounts.

Haha.....Glen, I've got side with SK on not removing the face mask just to take a picture when its single digits out and the wind is howling.

My Smugg's pictures (that I will post, I promise) will have the creepy maskface pictures of me in there.

My face still feels frozen and its two weeks later. I think this is what it feels like to be injected with botox.

  6. We rent boots from our local ski shop for the season - that way we can swap for a bigger size at no cost during the season. My daughter's boots lasted one month before she had a growth spurt and grew an entire shoe size.

POC I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your daughter has a good time on the mountain. You know kids that age - one bad fall and she's hollering to go home or she wants mommy and you're done for the day.

I wish this thread came up two weeks ago before I went to Smuggs. They just introduced a camp program for kids age 2 1/2 (yes, they are still in diapers). I would have asked the counselors how they teach kids that young to ski.

Here's a shot of the 3-5 y/o's getting on their tractor ride to head over to the learning hill which has the magic carpet for their ski lesson.

I believe Smuggler's offers snowboarding lessons for 4 years old and the reason is that they got Burton to custom make them snowboards that small. I don't think it had anything to do with children being too young but the availability of getting snowboards that small.

  7. 12" - 14" fell like a blanket on top of what I can only assume (since we barely saw it) was a base of hard ass hard pack/ ice.

One big block of granite ice underneath....completely frozen solid.

those who are here are old dudes who stick to the blacks and families who stick to the bunny hill.

 That describes midweek VT skiers perfectly.

  8. P.S. Our apres ski activities for today included a nap, delivery pizza, the fireplace, TV and soon maybe a trek to the hot tub or the bar and then to bed. Or not.

 Sounds like my apres ski activites when we were at Smuggler's last week (except the going to the bar). Thank God the local cable TV had CMT so we got to watch lots of episodes of My Big Redneck Wedding.

So jealous you got lots of fresh pow.....hey, at least its soft when you fall on it.

    Can't wait to hear more.

  9. Be safe on the way up tonight.

VT needs more snow desperately. We were at Smuggs all last week and the heavy rain of a week ago was followed by mutliple days of single digit daytime temps and the snow is just frozen solid. There is still plenty of coverage but it is a dangerous block of solid ice.

The intermediate groomed trails are fine but the ungroomed bump trails and glades are either shut or very treacherous to ski on.

It kept the crowds down to nothing but people got hurt on the slopes and slipping on the steps to their condos.

So here's hoping for a big dump of 12-18 inches plus for you.

  10. Blue shut down operations for the night after a brief, passing thundershower and didn't mention it on the website and the girl on the phone didn't even want to tell me. I had to press her.

You actually called Blue to confirm they were closed. :rofl:rofl
