Looks like the East side may be closed anyway. I seen on the site some of it was listed as opened today but it appears that has changed.
I was there today and only the west side is open. The trails that cut over to the east side would need a lot of snow pushed up onto them. The nile mile looked like it still had a lot of snow on it, from what I could see. . They still have a decent amount of snow, though. I used my good skis and had no problems.

Just got back from Elk. The morning started off cold, breezy, and snowy. It was 33 at 8:30, with light snow falling. They got a dusting. I ended up using my old skis, because I wasn't sure what to expect, with the light coating of snow covering everything. I probably would have been ok with my good skis, since they still have a decent amount of snow. I stayed on the east side, even though the west side was open and they had 15 trails open. There were a few holes, toward the base area near Susquehanna, but overall it is in good shape. By 11, it cleared up.

LOL. No hatchet burying needed. Those are terrible ideas b/c.....wait for it.....$$$$$$$. Do you have any idea what that would cost? Compare that to the benefit. Do you really think that such a huge restructuring of the lifts at JF would increase the skier visits/revenue enough to justify such enormous projects? Putting a high speed lift on a small mountain is almost always a pointless idea. I've never been to Shawnee so I don't want to form too many conclusions on their decision; however, I find it hard to believe that putting a HSQ on a mountain with 600 ft of vertical is in any way a good idea.
I don't know the dollar figures, but aren't the newer HSQ more effecient than the older lifts? I could see waiting until a lift gets to the point of needing replacement to put one in, though, on a place the size of JF. I still think that East Mt. would be the place, since it could service Exhibition on eastward. It would also eliminate the need for running the old quad during the week, but on the down side would take away jobs from people. Another negative would be clustering east mt. with people who shouldn't be there.

I called Tuesday and they said they are going to try to get more trail open, but it is weather dependant.

Looks like they closed down the west side. I'll probably still go Wednesday.

Then again, I plan on going to CB Wed, Thurs, and Fri (would be free with the card Fri.).
Sat. would be Elk or BB and Sun would be BB.

I'll probably be at Elk on Saturday for the $25 ticket, unless I just go to BB. CB will cost me $41 with the camelcard I got (since I used the freebee on JF's WMMR day), unless if CB cuts the open to close ticket.

. CB is closed till Wednesday and I probably won't pay full price to go to Elk, since I got the free camelcard. -
I found out the hard way that having two season passes can be more of a headache than what it's worth. I did that a few years ago and won't do it again.

Just got done tearing my boots apart (inner boot, sole, and foot bed) to dry them out completely, after three days of near 70 temps. I waited until 10 for the snow to soften up and stayed until 4. Ended up with a sunburn because the forecast was wrong... I skipped the sunblock because it was cloudy when I left and wasn't supposed to get better. The food at the party was excellent. Had two helpings of chicken, pierogies, and barbeque. It was another great year, due to all of the staff at JF. They make you feel welcome and take their time to get to know you by name.

I clean my board with denatured alcohol to get rid of that crud.
Doesn't that dry out the base?

Still bumped, but they are chopped down in size. I tried to side slide a flat path down the side, but there are a few deep divets that needed quit a but of snow to fill in. I put my pole in one to see how deep the snow was and it went over 3/4 the way up the pole. I wanted a section to staight line, but it didn't work out. One or two groomer swipes down the left side would be nice

Skied 9:30 - 4pm and you could hardly tell that it rained. Started out as white frozen cord and eventually softened up, but did not get sticky (41 to 59 degrees). One small hole at the top of exhibition and Dematte's is a little beat up, other than that there is still a LOT of snow left and conditions are wonderful. Groomers did an excellent job
. Definately no need for rock skis. -

While on the way to BB today, I passed about 12 electric utility trucks going east on 80. I believe they were from Ohio and I think they went north on 81. When I got closer to the Lake Harmony exit, I saw about five more different utility company trucks going east. On the way home, I also saw a bunch more utility trucks going east on 80. I'm assuming some large area must be without power.

They say "closed the week of march 15th". I expect they'll scrape together enough snow to run a lift or two for the weekend, have a little party/whatever, and call it quits 3/20 or 3/21.
Is the NF that bad?

I was gonna go, but with the rain I'm leary that I will get half way there and find out that they won't be opening. That happened to me around this time last year or the year before, on a Saturday, and I ended up having to kill an hour and a half and wait for BB to open. I called today and they said they should be open, unless it is pouring or lightning. I called Elk and they said yes they will be open, even if it is raining. I have to work in the afternoon, so I will probably just go to Elk, since it seems like a sure thing. The thing that makes it difficult is that this would be my second time on my camelcard, which would give me a free ticket for Saturday
. I don't have time on Friday to be resort hopping.
