Making Turns

Making Turns (3/10)

  1. Not very crowded at times. Started snowing at about 10:15 AM. Pocono Raceway, Lower Marc Anthony, Cliffhanger, Big Pocono and Uncle Bill's now open. They were blowing snow on Pharaoh, Bactrian and Rocket but stopped around 11:00 AM. Grooming on most trails a little better than usual except on Uncle Bill's. It is treacherous. Asp, Margie's and Cliffhanger in great shape with small patches of ice. Nile Mile has brown streches with gravel surfacing. Asp is favorite trail of the day. Left around 12:30 PM snowing hard with lift lines moving quickly but lines still at the ticket windows.

    TR 1/1/15

No where near as crowded today as yesterday. Good coverage on trails that were open. No snow and no snow making on Hump, Rocket or Sphinx. Third day of 24 hr snow making and no new trails open. Big Pocono and Cliffhanger look like they are covered. Bactrian, Raceway and Lower Marc Anthony may be awhile.
  3. They either dusted most of the trails last night or did some creative grooming. Saw no rocks today except for the park trail Lower Moore's Ramble. They were blowing snow all day today from the mounted fan cannons on the trail that had the Mt Dew Challenge yesterday. The gravel at the Glen lift, lift line was gone.
  4. Going out the week of 2/28/10. Enjoy yourself!

    Buddy Pass

It's $50 savings per pass for a total of $100. Before 10/31/09 It is $529 for a full pass or $479 per pass "with a buddy" http://www.skicamelback.com/SkiCamelback/Tickets-and-Passes/Season-Passes.aspx

    Buddy Pass

Once again CBK is offering a $50 discount per pass if you buy two. I only need one. Anyone want to purchase passes together to get the $50 discount?
  7. Bolton Valley and Burke mountaitn in northern VT are good values. I think Pico Peak is the best value/family area. Lots of blues and usually not crowded. All the foreigners (non vermonters) have driven that far so they go to Killington.

The canyon roads usually only close for two reasons: avalanch control or avalanch across the road. They may close for ten or twenty minutes occasionally for snow plowing in real heavy snow. I've heard every once in a great while it's taken a day or two to open the road because of a gigantic avalanch slide across the road. It's the primary reson there were no olympic venues at the LCC BCC ski resorts. When it is snowing hard up the canyon a sheriff's officer may be stationed at the entrance to the canyons to make sure you have snow tires or chains and four wheel drive. New staging area
  9. Just some notes: The cabriolet lift, the main lift, sucks. You have to take your skis/board off every ride and stand. That might be ok if you were at a mountain that takes ten or fifteen minutes to ski down, but not every ninty seconds. The snow making/management is far inferior to anything in the Pocono's. The parking is dangerous. The facilities are nothing great. And yes, the people seem to consistently have that rude city mentality. Other than that, great place to go...
  10. This is the best advice. I think their black runs are similar.

The altitude hits everyone differently. Coming from the east living at less then 200 feet then going to SLC at 4200 feet and staying on the benches around 5500 feet takes me about a day to acclimate. I'm 55 and overweight. I have a townhouse just outside LCC. Six miles from Snowbird. Search Google maps: "9009S 3605E 84093" or Canyon PlaceTownhouse Its open 1/6/09 to 1/21/09 as of today. Their license plates read: "Best Snow on Earth". Woud the government lie?
  12. I'm coming from the Clinton, NJ area so I'd drive over the free bridge or the Rt 22 toll bridge depending on if I needed to stop for gas or not. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  13. Thanks for the locker info and the directions. Yea, not happy with the two hour cut, the price incease on the pass, and the constant partial mountain closings all last year.
  14. 1. Does Blue have seasonal lockers available for rent? 2. What's the best way to get to Blue from the Easton area; Rt 22 to 145 to Danielsville, Rt 22 to Rt 33 to Rt 248 to Danielsville or another way? Thanks for the help.
  15. That means the Stevenson will be closing around 8PM Monday through Thursday!
