  1. Oh yes - more base lodge facilities, spa and hotel, so exciting!!!! I can hardly contain myself!
  2. Holy crap it was icy last night (and I haven't sharpened my edges in a while.) And crowded. The lift lines were pretty unruly around 7-8. Park was nice - I was really impressed by how much they got open and up in the short amount of time this week. I'm not sure, however, how the new "entrance" to the park is going to prevent the wrong people from strolling through any more than the old setup allowed. And by wrong people I mean families taking their little tikes out for the first time, rolling over jumps, getting stuck at the top, etc.
  3. oooh, snow? (sorry, couldn't help it)
  4. Mountain Creek is offering free weekday lift tickets to Stratton for the next week and $25 lifts for the weekend. While I'm sure it is much easier for them to pull that off since both mountains are owned by Intrawest, is there any way BC could leverage their relationship with Killington (considering the early and late season 50% off discounts) to do something similar?
  5. How about the option to get a refund right now? I mean, given that their next blowing opportunity is at least a week out, the best case scenario is a 6-8 week season, which makes it kind of tough to get your money's worth on a $300+ pass. Not to mention, we'll probably need rock boards/skis when they finally do open. In hindsight, that $300 could be buying me lift tickets to places that are open already. I hate to pile onto the moan-fest, but its frustrating all around for everyone. This will have been my 4th year with a creek pass - I never imagined little old Spring Mountain would be able to stay open while BC closed completely (I know, I know, colder water etc.)...
  6. Looks like last night was a no-go. From their site: Wednesday Update: We were unable to make snow last night, our low temperature was 31.3F with 77% humiditiy. It looks like our next chance at snowmaking is the 9th or 10th. Total bummer.
  7. No. http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp
  8. Most reputable mountains would refund if you cancel a day or more in advance. I know Killington did that this year for people that had rooms and packages booked when they missed their target opening...
  9. Hmm. So I look at the Spring Mountain webcam this morning and there is still snow (they're even grooming stuff right now) and BC's webcam.. looks like another night of no blowing. But hey BC has a sweet lodge and hotel! And the pond of eternal warmness.
  10. According to Spring Mountain's site, they have 2 trails, 2 lifts open, with beginner to intermediate terrain (though, really, can any terrain in PA be considered "advanced" or "expert"?). One trail has some rails and boxes. While I'm sure that it takes much less to cover their not so expansive terrain down there, at least they have something open. I just got back yesterday from a trip to Utah (mmm, real snow!), so I haven't exactly been "missing" BC's terrain - but now that I'm back, I know I'm going to want to stretch the legs with my pass that was not free - heading up to Blue or JFBB (as suggested in some other threads) defeats the purpose of buying a pass to one mountain since that's completely out of pocket. -kevin
  11. I've learned not to get my hopes up from weather predictions around here
  12. Umm, we're in PA - what blizzards are you expecting? Dairy Queen doesn't count.

I live in South Philly; my parents are up in the NE (Bustleton area) I've heard that Temple has a pretty big snowboarding club.
  14. My first (and only time) at spring, was my 2nd time riding in my life, and I felt embarrassed that these little kids 1/3 my age and half my height were running circles around me.
  15. Damn, big boulder is opening up tommorow. I guess the extra 1000 feet altitude difference really does make a big difference. Disappointing
  16. April 1st is mid-april? Great - but given our mild winters, low altitude, and the expense of snowmaking, is this realistically ever going to happen?
  17. I think its unrealistic to expect for places in this area, given the types of winters we have, to be able to keep enough snow into April, so unless they have some kind of real strategy for doing that, then they shouldn't tempt us like that. I'd rather be surprised than have my hopes crushed like that
  18. oh, you mean like they said they were gonna try to do last year, but made zero attempt to stockpile anything and blamed it on a warm winter....?
  19. I might do a day or two at Jack Frost, but the money I normally would have spent on a season pass will be used for an early season flight to SLC most likely.
  20. Have fun. One of my best friends moved out to SLC last year - he was practically laughing at me every time I gave him a "report" of my days at the Creek, while he was experiencing weekly pow days I went to visit last January and it was the best week of riding I've had my whole life.
  21. This will be the first year since I started riding (4 years ago) that I won't be getting a pass at Bear Creek. I just had way too many days last year where the slow lifts, park carnage, and overall monotony of the hill depressed me. Last year I almost spent more days riding at places other than Bear despite having a pass. /me waits to be called gay/crappy rider/etc....
  22. I rode with justin last year. You have no clue what you are talking about.
  23. I think someone died at Pico (VT) last year, trying to snowtube in the off hours also.
  24. Yeah, this weak closing with temperatures in the 40s and snow still on the ground is very disappointing, especially after the BS about an attempt to go into April. I personally have to give thought to maybe getting a blue pass next year instead, though the price difference kind of sucks.
