  1. It's like a whole different sport, the first time you make the avy decision on your own with a whole crew of your best friends waiting on you is like wow this is for real now no fucking around.

Even if it's something low key like USA bowl there is still that feeling of adventure, it's simple working man's pleasure. I may not get 10000 laps but all I need is some random bits of food and skins and I can go ski in generally quiet isolation.

It is amazing how different it is then when you hike / skin to earn your turns instead of just lapping lifts.  Changes your entire mind set about the sport in general.

  2. Can you guys be a little more detailed with the criticism on the jumps, it helps us improve how we make stuff.  Too steep?  Too short?  Ungroomed lips??

The faces have abrupt transitions on them.  Instead of being a smooth, consistent transition they go from mellow to steep right before the lip.  It was causing a lot of people to backseat the jump and eat it.  And the landings didn't really work with the how the jumps sent you.  They are too short and steep.

  3. Definitely agree about the jumps in BB.  People were eating it off them all day on Sat.  I saw at least on person getting a ski patrol sled ride down from the first one.

Hip in Cascade is a lot of fun and the rest of BB was hitting pretty good as well.

  4. Rode open to 2 on Friday.  Snow was good for Blue and it held up until around 11 or 12 or so when it started to get scrapped.  Weather was all over the place...sun, clouds, full on white out for about 10 mins.  Lower park setup was fun with the rollers in the 3 rail lines.  No clue why the opened lower Sidewinder without letting it setup a bit.  15 mins after the groomer pulled off they dropped the ropes.  Not smart at all...it turned to shit instantly.  Lower section of Come Around park was really fun, upper section could have used a couple more or different features.

Two bad things.  Lift guy working the 6 pack got smashed in the head by a large chuck of ice sliding off the top of the lift.  Dropped him immediately to the ground and he was down for a while.

And Slopeside Bar drinks are expensive and their craft taps weren't working.

Over all a pretty fun day.

  5. Burton I think that park build on black bear was only set up as the only park for a total of 2 days.  We did it thursday night and by saturday morning there were 4 easier features on cascade and rails in baby park.  At least it wasn't the only option for weeks on end.

Feel free to post any and all suggestions in here and I will try to relay.  If you think that stuff is too expert you should have seen some of the other stuff that was drawn up haha.  It's a lot the crew that are frequent riders right now giving ideas and most of em are pretty good riders.  I'm sure once we get full swing into the season there will be much more of a variety.

All suggestions and criticism is welcome in here and I will do my best to make your voice heard.

And yes, please for the love of god ban doug at least from this thread.

Cool man glad to hear it.  I'm fine with expert stuff now that the other parks are open. The multiple hits into some of the rails was definitely nice to see and made for some fun options.

One thing I'd love to see again is an up - flat - down setup..  There was one a few years ago made out of 3 of the box rails and it was a ton of fun.

  6. Lower park and Central Park aren't open yet. Just Come Around park

I know they aren't open today...but when I spoke to someone up there the other day they said they were going to try and have something by mid to late week.  So just trying to see if they are blowing / building anything on there yet.

  7. blowing on dreamweaver now. challenge opening today. burma today. razors/razorback. all good. might go up tonight to get out on the new skis again and hit up some new variety!!!! this weekend should be good!!!!

Let me know if they setup any features on the lower parks.  Haven't decided on Friday yet or not but if they get something setup on central or terrain I'm in.

  8. I went to Action Park a few times, it was a death trap!

There's stories all over the Internet about how dangerous the place was.

They had the Cannonball Loop which was pretty wicked and also I believe a 90' water slide that sent you into freefall until you finally got near the bottom when it started flattening out.

Needless to say it gave you the most wicked wedgie you ever had.

I used to work there in the summers when I was in high school.  Place was a death trap...but awesome lol.  Probably every 20 minutes someone would come off the alpine slide bleeding.  People would get broke off on the rope swing by not going out far enough.  And bikini tops would pop off left and right on the water slides.  So many great memories lol.

  9. You're right, but thats what happens when your manager leaves and park crew is left to set everything up. I know I liked it because I was tired of there being all low level stuff last year.

I hope they get this turned around this year.  You are right, last year was a bunch of easy stuff or weird advance stuff.  And the jumps were either tiny or huge...no in between.  It would be nice to get back to how the park was back like 5 years ago.  All / most jumps having two sized hits and a nice spread of options in both parks.

  10. Candy cane, flat circle rail past the dfd, and the circle to up kink were all basically ride on Friday.

Not to mention the two propane tanks. That leaves the s rail, double barrel flat down, rainbow, dfd, and pole jam as advanced rails. I thought it was pretty evenly distributed

None of those are beginner / low level intermediate features except maybe the candy cane but even that was set kind of high for that.  Not a single box or flat rail.  Propane tank would have been fine if it was a single tank not a kicked out double.

It just wasn't a good selection of features for only having one park open.

  11. Black bear is an expert park I believe.  I was in saturday and there were some mellow features on Cascade and there is always Family park over off the triple for smaller features.

Which is fine when the other parks are open and have features.  When it is the only park open, like it was for awhile, then it should have a bit of everything.

  12. When it isn't crowded it is a fun mountain.  Snow is usually good.  Only a couple steeps, but some nice long fun blue cruisers and an excellent park.  When they get a bunch of snow there are some really fun trees on Granite Peak if you know where to find them.

Cabriolet is annoying because they cram a shit load people on it.

  13. So, which is the north face?  The side with he marked glades?

Not that there will be enough snow this weekend....just curious.

and I take it they have a liberal tree policy?

Bottom / advanced trails are the north face.

  14. By the map, looks hard to even ride two lifts to the top then.  Seems kind of awkward.

Not difficult at all to get between the lifts if you want to go from bottom all the way up.

Montage is definitely a fun place to ride and its hard to beat for the price with some of the specials they run.  They have stepped up the quality of their park in recent years as well.
