The top layer is loose snow, under that it is pretty god damn firm and fast. If I was a PSIA head I'd tell you that the underneath layer leads to uneven edge purchase. lulz Regardless it still easily carvable and the extra glide is fun, all things considered Blue did a very good job with the 1.5" of ice.
