He's an old white dude, being white you gotta be careful because you can become lame very quickly. Add in some old and I'm not surprised he doesn't get it at all.
This is a great quote, can I use it somewhere else?

I should title this "Is anything new at Elk for 2013/2014?" Past practice has been they get four new tires for a snow plow truck and it's considered an "imporvement." The skiing is still top notch, though.
Any pass holders here care to chime in?

Anyone have any insights on what trails will be opening in the next two or three days?

Anyway to call the Sheriff and ask if the sale is still on? Is it policy to string along potential buyers and then say no sale? I don't understand why that's the case, but that's possible I guess?
Go here, http://www.lackawannacounty.org/viewDepartment.aspx?DeptID=82, click on the Sheriff Sale - July 17, 2012 link. Sno is the first property on the list.

This is the statekent in the scranton times article:
National Penn Bank of Boyertown claims it is owed $6,654,473.03 in principal on a $7.5 million mortgage signed, according to Lackawanna County records, in April 2009 and renegotiated in November 2010.Efforts to reach lawyers for the bank to confirm that a refinancing is imminent were unsuccessful.
Either someone cames up with a cool $6.65 million by the time of the sale, or it goes up for sale.

Didn't see it referenced elsewhere on here, published: June 27, 2012: http://thetimes-trib...-july-1.1335601

^ Not so sure about that. The pasholders I know were grumbling about this being the warmest winter in 20 or 30 years yet Elk still manages to skate by with marginal or unskiable conditions to meet the 100 day thing, so the guarantee is really a worthless point. And if it doesn't come into play this year, what year will it ever apply. There are from some guys who if they weren't complaining about this, they'd find something else to grumble about, like the dollar-a-hole they usually have to fork over when we play golf.

I looked and their web cam is down today. Obviously not a coincidence.

Some pass holders told me Elk is in a dilemma with their 100 day guarantee for season pass holders.
Either they stay open for 100 days, which would take them into the weekend of the 24th, or they offer a pro-rated credit to current pass holders on next year's passes.
Comments?

it's basically two old rich guys swinging their expensive dicks at each other. Elk wants to build condos but needs right of way through village of four seasons property. VOFS wont grant it because they are trying to protect the property owners home values. Elk locks up the gate that is used by VOFS to access Elks slopes (so they dont have to ride the dumb cattle cars) and now VOFS is suing Elk because they are drawing snow making water from VOFS spring fed lake. For crying out loud.
An update from the Scranton Times: http://thetimes-tribune.com/news/resort-community-says-it-won-t-block-elk-s-snowmaking-1.1257584
Winter, can you elaborate on your statement 'two rich guys...'. I thought that village was run by a condo owner association, at least that's what I heard many years ago.

A friend was there Wed (opening day?). What I remember he said: Seemed like spring conditions, good grooming, mostly good coverage, some brown was showing through in a few spots, the usual two trails open top-to-bottom, Tioga and Susquehanna.
-
At lunchtime, their website now says "opening for the season on Wednesday, 12/14, day skiing only, 8:30 - 4:30."
-
There's no longer a daily picture link... It's for a webcam now...
The reason I said that is, for Elk to get a webcam is almost ... modern.

Web Cam? Elk? Huh?

Power returns to Snö Mountain: http://thetimes-trib...4#axzz1bVoLUY39
Or someone got their bills current.

Latest update: Sno Mountain tweet says it will open
Link: http://thetimes-tribune.com/news/sno-mountain-tweet-says-it-will-open-1.1220362#ixzz1bFIcLKNB
My take: Twitter is free to use for advertising, but paying one's bills requires actual money.
I sincerely hope they can open.

Relax..and before this turns into a feeding frenzy let me kill it early. Just spoke to my boss up there.....Sno Mtn isn't going anywhere..seems to me like the paper had a slow news day and because of one or two days of inactivity, probably during the monsoons we all have been going thru, someone decided to do another "Sno is Doomed!" article.
Meh, every year it happens..and...every year the place does better.
As far as the rest of it...I'm not going to speculate, but obviously the lights are on and stuff is getting done..although..not today as it's raining..again.
I'd like to believe what you're saying here, but the part about the power being shut off since Sep 29th says otherwise.

Locals said Elk spent a fair amount of $$$ updating the "halfway house" (picnic hut),
Do you know what they did to the halfway house? The last time I stopped in there, several years ago, it looked like it did about 20 years ago, including all the grease stains around the fire pit.

I spent a week at TLCITW (the little cabin in the woods) last week, doing a little maintenance, playing some golf, drinking beer, listening to some rythm and blues on the Stonebridge deck and talking to some locals.
That sounds very pleasant, especially the part about relaxing on the deck, gabbing with the locals and listening to some music. I'm gonna have to check that out some time.

Wow. I mean wow, I completely missed this announcement. Nestor's grew to be a have-to-stop-in-a-few-times-a-season kind of place for ski and gear shopping, and browsing. They will be missed.

Seven Springs? I'd sooner go to Eagle Rock or Sawmill.

I was up as well on Sunday... I will have a detailed TR up tonight with some pictures... I think I saw Old Geezer in the lodge... At least from his profile pic it could have been him... I will also be up Saturday if they open...
I was there on Saturday. But I saw several old timers with there greying hair like mine.

The most under appreciated point of Elk is the almost 360 degree view from the summit. If you hike up to the true summit where the radio towers are, you get a full 360 view of the surrounding area. On a clear day, you can see weather and storm fronts rolling in, cloud layers, and snow squalls. There are very few places in the state where you can see these things so clearly.
The view is so panoramic that its hard to capture on one photo.

Current / Future Conditions
in Elk
Posted
I just looked at Elk's website and I see their spring celebration is scheduled for Sat, March 15th. Which is also the day of the Scranton St. Paddies Parade. The end of the season is drawing near for Elk, going from past years night skiing will end soon.
Given all that, get up there when you can, sooner rather than later.
