Normally we have like 1700 people in groups on friday nights. They ALL cancelled by noonish today. I do not no why, other than it was pretty ugly at the time. I guess they have to cancel that early because of travel arrangements (not sure). As far as closing....I don't really know. I do know that alot of grooming work is being done in the park and both pipes (if they can do anything). The rest of the trails are being pushed and bare spots are being covered. We still have a pretty good base, but, it needed to be moved around a bit. Flame on

No, like I have said, I was there, it was gusting from 60's to 70 with steadier winds in the 20 - 30 range. I know what those winds are like. I have been in several strong wind storms.

Great post. That scale is based on steady wind speeds, not gusts. I was at Cb one day when a lift shack blew off of it's foundation. We do get very strong gusts (usually from the north).

It is better (if you want to look at it that way) to break a bone in the middle (arm, leg) than to do damage in the joint (ankle, wrist). The joint takes much longer to heal and rehab.

How do we know that your sisters friend is properly calibrated?

I guess I can revisit this topic this season. Poaching closed terrain. It's fun, we have all done it, and sometimes you even get decent snow (usually not, there is a reason it is closed). Keep in mind, on most occassions (see "closed for a reason") if something bad happens and you need help, the trail is NOT being patrolled when it is closed, so, rescue may take awhile (never ski alone). In some places, that rescue may cost you alot of money. Be especially careful on trails that are closed for snowmaking. Not only is the snow usually wet, sticky, and very rarely worth it, there are many hazards that you may not be able to easily see. Guns, hoses, piles, holes, ice, and etc. The most dangerous thing would of course be the high voltage, electric lines that go to some of the fan guns. DO NOT SKI OVER THESE!!!

Your wrong, I was there, it was 60 - 70 mph gusts. Using the chairs hitting the towers as your decision point is like putting the condom on after you've "finished." The top of both the HSQ's are very exposed (especially the Stevenson) and when you have less exposed, fixed grips to the top (access to most of the mountain) it just makes sense to use them instead. And of course I stand up for CB. It's my home mountain and place of work. If you also notice, I never go on other mountains boards and "bash" them (even though I could). That would just be a waste of time and very unproductive.

You guys are kidding , right? Have you stepped outside today? 60-70+ mph gusts at the top, coming from a few directions. I don't care what kind of detachable lift you have (unless it is underground), it is irresponsible if not stupid to run them in that wind. If any of you really knew anything about lift ops and running capacities you would understand. Don't bother flaming me, stating about how Blue does it and other mountains. If in fact they do, in the same conditions (wind speed, direction, etc) then they are wrong.

Not only are they looking for "general" opinions on the overall conditions of the trail in question, they are also looking for possible witnessess to the incident. Alot of times, they will go back to the scene to see what is going on.

Most of the problem with the riding up and down the banks is that they do not look when they re-enter the trail. Obviously, this is not true for everyone, but, it does happen alot. The other issue is that sometimes, if there is not enough snow on the banks (off trail), the riders will kick up rocks and then they fall onto the trail (obvious issue). The other problem (usually with skiing deeper off trail) is that if rescue is needed from those locations, we may not have the right equipment to get you out quickly without raising yours and our risk levels. Probably a joke to most of you, but, it is true. Usually, if the snow is that good, off trail, I'm in there myself. It is seldom that good.

Cant run the lifts in lightning...well, you can, but, it's really stupid.

They only stop people when there has been an accident. It's part of an investigation to help in case of litigation. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for the help.

Does it really matter? Unless it had some kind of cloaking device to make it invisible. Ski under control... should pretty much cover it.

Actually, most of our intermediates are much longer than the blacks, so the less snow thing is incorrect. Depth is not as much of an issue since the winch cat pushes the snow back to the top (unlike the past where it would keep ending up downhill). Currently we have: 2 Blacks, 2 blues, 8 single greens, 3 double greens, 2 beginner, and 1 park (listed black). Thursday you can add: 3 double greens, and 1 (maybe 2) double blues. The main idea is to spread everyone out to lessen some of the "less talented" congestion in high traffic areas. Cliff is almost done (depends on temps the next few nights) and Asp and Hump do not take long to put in. I also heard a rumor that the bump fairy may be making a visit soon.

Unless Snowbird threw the wall at him, it is insane that any judge, anywhere would entertain this suit. I know, it happens everywhere, but, SNOWBIRD DID NOT MAKE THAT PERSON SKI INTO THE WALL.! Responsibility code # 1. "Ski/ride under control and in such a manner that you can stop and avoid skiers and objects at all times" That seems pretty simple to me. If your one that complains about the cost of skiing being ridiculous, this is why. Lawsuits aimed at squeezing money out of ski areas because of someone elses stupidity or carelessness.

I'm sorry if there has been a few bad examples of customer service at CB. For the last few years, every new employee has to go thru "customer service training." We also get unannounced visits from a service called "Mystery Shopper" that evaluates everything and we normally rate very well.

Did I mention that the skiing/riding is going to "rock" tomorrow? IF you are there, take a good look at the amount of snow they made. I don't just mean number of trails, try to judge some of the depths.
