  1. Will somebody take some pics of some "good" jumps and jib setups so I can take them to the powers that be. Maybe I can help move things along a little. Clearly we wont be able to please everyone, but, I will try to get pics to the right peeps.
  2. I apologize for "dumbing' the post a little. It just gets a little frustrating reading complaints about things that need attention, then get attention, then compaints about the attention they get! There just never seems to be any pleasing of some of the members here (although, I don't think they would admit it if they were pleased). I am not the "head" patroller, I may be considered "old" by some standards, but, I am the biggest! Try to keep up.....I'll wait at the bottom for ya.
  3. I watched a few people hitting the "scary" flat-down (or up-down for the visually impaired). They didn't seem to have any problems. The groomer that makes the park, is also a good rider. He and some of the park crew guys are the designers and work together during the setup. They don't seem to have any problems with it. Maybe it is an ability thing.
  4. As long as it doesn't get in the way of your duties, Ben. (jk)
  5. Papa, as far as the "core" people, do you think the Zaugg is for the Coolmore crowd? The new, larger terrain park for the once or twicers. How about the larger pipe, the "freestyle" team, the park pass, etc. Nothing will ever be enough for you or fast enough for you, so we will have to get used to that, but, it is not fair to say CB has not done anything for the "core."
  6. Have you heard of "Mystery Shopper." CB uses them to help with making improvements, especially in customer service. They come here several times a season (covertly) and basically review all areas. CB generally rates very well in most areas. Areas with any deficiency is addressed asap. There are negative experiences everywhere you go (especially if you look for them).
  7. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." Sometimes, however, it does not matter how much grease you use, the wheel still squeaks. Then you go out and get a new wheel. It is impossible to give everyone everything they ask for. If we did that, we would not allow snowboards, because people complain about them (just one example). When it comes to parks, we are admittedly in a learning process. Not just how and where to build, but, also what works with our demographic. Of course "safety" (not a word we like to use) is an issue. It is obvious that the majority of the posters on this forum are into skiing and riding to some amazing extremes (why else would you spend all your time skiing or here posting?). It is also obvious that the majority of the posters are in some way "park rats" (no offence intended). So you would think that the more you "squeak" the faster you will get what you want. You have to admit, that CB has made some attempt this season towards your "needs" as far as parks are concerned. It is not perfect yet, and quite honestly, I'm not sure it can be perfect for some of you. There has been alot of "catering" to the smaller part of our clientel (meaning park rats (no offence intended)) over the last year or two. I also realize that it is a growing group, but, still the smaller one. Be part of the solution and try to give constructive critisism instead of flaming CB anytime there is an issue, and you might see more results. Before you start, Papa, I have seen some good, constructive critisism. Some is just plain old whining. (this should be good)
  8. So we shouldn't close trails and make more snow? You people are funny. The park is too easy...the park is too hard, there is not enough snow....don't close the trail to make snow, etc.
  9. The sub-zero wind chills and time it takes to get to shelter from the Stevenson lift has nothing to do with closing the lift. It is most definitely so that the employees can watch the Super Bowl. You are ridiculous!
  10. I'm sorry, Did I specifically mention Blue?
  11. First is part of Julius C. Second is "upper" honeymoon (not counted) Third is affectionately known as "Jamesway" or "Samsway" depending on how long you have been here. Fourth is unnamed along with the whole top area above Cameltop that connects all the trails from the top. Fifth, again unnamed (we may refer to that as a "mixing" area) Lastly, Pocono ends where Dromedary comes out. Then Sphinx continues all the way down to Sullivans. You also forgot the old Mainline crossover.
  12. I just started tele'ing last season and man, I can tell you, it is one hell of a workout! Next time you are walking down a hill, do one legged lunges all the way down. It burns. It really doesn't take long to pick it up if you are a strong alpine skier. The hardest thing is the endurance part. It definetly makes the mountain seem bigger.
  13. I do not have much (if any) park experience, other than what I have seen at other places and on tv. I myself am impressed with the size of some of the stuff on Rhodo. My opinion on the "mounds" of snow that the features are set on is a positive one from an injury point of view. I think having a sloped "landing' or "fall" zone on all sides might help with some of the less than graceful maneuvers. Give CB a couple days to make adjustments before you make your final decisions.
  14. We have some forecasted cold temps coming up so i thought I'd offer some tips that work for me. 1. Dress in layers with moisture wicking layers against the skin (Under Armor, quality long underwear, Capilene, polypropilene, etc) 2. Always put your ski socks on just before you boot up. Wearing your socks in your street shoes, in the car, will probably make your feet sweat, and then your feet will get cold. I also change my socks at lunch on a cold day. 3.Cover your head. Helmets, hats, balaclavas, neck warmers will all help hold in the heat. We lose a large percentage of body heat through our head. 4. Good gloves or mittens. I'm sure some of you also have some good ideas. Please share
  15. I can definetly confirm everything Skicb writes. He did, however, forget to mention the "bluebird" day we are having. Bring the sunscreen. Oh, and I have come to the conclusion that big guys should not ski bumps! The bumps on Cleo are shaping up nice. My legs are killing me.
  16. Craig, you forgot to mention the new moguls on Lower (middle) Cleo. The groomers built them last night and then the snowmakers dusted them with some nice soft pow. The are pretty good now, but, are going to be awesome in a day or two. Rumor has it, they are going to do the same thing on the Rocket within the next few days. Skiing is awesome today, and with the light snow falling, it is just getting better. It really looks like they will have nearly (if not) everything open this weekend or at least by early next week. They are pretty much done with Cliff, Pocono, and Sphinx. They are already going on Asp and Bailey. I saw Tony and his crew kicking around the Rhodo, planning the setup for the park. I would guess they will be working on that for the next day or so. And some of you didn't think we would get everything open this season....shame, shame.
  17. Do you really believe everything you say or do just really like being confrontational?
  18. Something tells me that if CB ended up haveing the best pipe and park in the poconos you would still complain. Just like any trail, it takes a few days and trips with the groomer to get everything just right. The pipe is pretty good for the first pass. It will get better with the next few trips with the zaugg.
  19. One of my pet peeves is people who stand or sit in the middle of the trails or at the unloads of the lifts. Try to get to the side of the trail to strap in or if you are waiting to "drop in" for a feature. This may also give a visual clue for someone about to take a jump that the landing is clear. Generally, if everyone in the pack is looking downhill and not paying attention to the "crash site" you have a better chance of it being clear. *****DISCLAIMER******* This is by no means a replacement for haveing spotters.
  20. Snowblades do not offer enough edge to control a sled, and......are just stupid to begin with.
  21. Having handled many toboggans with both skis and sb. Everyone is right (to some extent). As far as the actual traveling downhill and edge control on steeps. It is pretty much a push. What alot of people do not know, there is a chain that we can engage that will slide under the front of the sled and help control the speed. We actually have to "lift up" a little to get it to move. The snowboard does make some snow conditions a little easier than skis and vice versa. Flats and uphills are the snowboard patrollers nemesis. If you have to travel any distance on a flat, I just unstrap and walk the sled. We do use snowmobiles for the majority of the flat and up pulls.
  22. I can't believe I'm getting into this. The old saying...."the squeaky wheel gets the grease" comes to mind. (do I need to explain that?). The general "sound" of most of the complaints on this forum is that of immature, spoiled, brats. I know that is not always the case, but, much of the time it is really hard to take any of it seriously. That being said, if you expect instantaneous gratification, give up. It will never work that way....anywhere. No management would ever get past even one aggressively negative comment with a postitive reaction. CB's "commitment" to "freestyle" has not gone unrealized. They may not be as committed as other areas, but, those areas pretty much only concentrate on that niche because they are lacking everywhere else. You are accusing CB of failing, before the park even opens. LG IS NOT A PARK FOR EXPERIENCED RIDERS! STOP EXPECTING IT TO BE! Unfortunately, due somewhat to its location, it has to be first to be opened. If you are all so advanced that you cannot improve any of your skills with what is currently available (which I believe is not possible) I guess you have to go somewhere else. Where am I gonna go when I am to "advanced" for Marjies? Maybe I should demand they make it steeper, or make a cliffdrop. My point is, you can challenge yourself anywhere on anything if you are creative. Rhodo will be open soon, and I am sure no matter how it is set up, you will find something wrong with it. CB has sought alot of "experienced" advice from riders, park builders and it's own park crew, so do not think they are doing this blind. If you are honestly looking for positive responce from CB management, I strongly suggest "softening" some of your approach. Remember, respect gets respect. Whining gets ignored.
  23. Could that sign in front of the rail or hit be marking it "closed?" Honestly, we dont just put them up for no reason.
  24. I beg to differ. There are very few who have "mastered" the terrain. Some may think they have, but, they really haven't.
