  1. Just wondering, did anyone see that the new hotel/waterpark had any effect on the skiing experience this past winter? We didn't, but please see the thread in the "Gear" forum for an explanation.
  2. "Touch up the edges": use a ceramic stone to smooth out any small nicks by hand. And I'd put the layer of storage wax on to prevent rust from forming over the summer.
  3. 2015-16 History of Skis: December: binding check, tuned & stone ground, multiple layers of base prep wax, one layer underlayment wax, wax of the day. Skied on ONLY twice: the weather, family illness, the weather, dr.'s appointments, the weather, veterinary problems, the weather. Current Plans for 2016-17: Touch up edges; Wax heavily with undercoat wax (enough to cover the edges); store until next season; scrape off storage layer; wax with wax of the day, then ski. Get binding check only if significant change in weight. Thoughts, comments, pros & cons? Thanks!
  4. In the text portion of the 2014-15 brochure they mention 34 several times, but when I counted the named trails on the map I got 37. If they were to use the same logic that allowed them to give names to "Near East", "James' Way", "Home Again", "Old Main Line" and the "new" "Dromedary", I would suggest that are actually 41 "nameable" trails. First, the section between the bottom of Sunbowl and the Stevenson loading area. We don't ski on weekends, so I can't speak about the interactions of the people trying to get to the mountain coaster and skiiers, but I would propose that this section be named "HEY! I'm skiin' here! I'm skiin' here!". Second, is the section between the Sullivan unloading area and Camel Top. Third, the section between the top of Asp and the section described above. Fourth, the section that is just west of the Raceway Triple loading station. Please feel free to suggest your own names for any of these sections.
  5. Perhaps I should make my search wider than the just the two shops I first mentioned. Can anyone reccomend any place in "The Poconos" that has a top notch boot fitter? Or, I'll go as far south as Quakertown or as far west as Reading. And yes, a good boot fitting can (and opften should) well take up a whole afternoon. Thanks again in advance for all advice!
  6. It's time for new boots, now that we're over the family medical condition of two years ago. I know that the Loft carries Langes which we've come to like & trust very much & I don't think that Buckman's carries them. Since all of the boot buys of the last twenty years were at and fitted by Nestor's, I'd like to solicit suggestions & comments. Thanks!!
  7. I agree with Sib, yes, there's still wax on the base after the Fiberlene pass. But Sib, I don't have time to wait six hours before scraping unless I watn to get up extra early and scrape in the AM before going. What should I do?
  8. Yes!! The last pass with the "Fiberlene" makes scraping a whole lot easier!!!!
  9. Went this AM for two hours. Mid-winter hard pack with flurries. Plan to be there Wed & Thur., too!!
  10. I bought an inexpensive digital multimeter from Sears that has a "thermocouple"(?) attachment. It reads in either F or C degrees. After I've let the iron warmup for 5-10 minutes, I hold the probe against the sole plate in 4 or 5 different locations to get readings; if the temp is right, iron away, or make the needed up or down adjustment and remeasure.
  11. After a season of skiing predominately Cliffy, I did not detect much effect from the Bactrian-Cliffy merge. HOWEVER, skiing was only done on weekdays, so traffic was way down. Even in the week before Easter, when they painted the blue "this way to the Mountain Coaster" path across the entry into the Stevenson liftline, I had no trouble. Perhaps we didn't stay late enough into the day to be bothered by the "tourists".
  12. Went last Wednesday and Yeah, it's screwed-up big time!!!! People coming off Cliffy at near full speed are going to be dodging slowbies merging out of Bactrian on skiers' left. Plus they're going to be dealing wiht the usual traffic at the end of Nile Mile! Think the Ski Patrol should just park a crew at this intersection permanently!! Also, we haven't addressed how the "walkers" who are going to ride the Mountain Coaster ( It's supposed to be open "year round") are going to get to their loading station. What?! They're going to be wandering across the flats between the Glen Lodge & the Raceway Triple (coaster loadng station is just east of the triple) just where you want to be carrying some speed so you can get to the the Stevenson?? Yet another nightmare!! Of course, I'm not sure I can identify the audience who are going to want to ride a roller coaster in the dead of winter.

I've not been on the slopes yet, but from looking at the new trail map for this year and from a drive by look-see after picking up the skiis from the repair shop, it looks like the mountain coaster has really screwed up the intersection on Nile Mile, Cliffy & the Bactrian. It appears that slow skiiers from the Bactrian are all going to dump into the bottom of Cliffy just at the point where some of the highest speeds on Cliffy are reached!!! It also appears that the Bactrian runout to the east of the Raceway Triple is gone, meaning all Nile Mile, Cliffy & Bactrian users will be in the east lift line of the Stevenson Lift. What a nightmare!!!! I hope i'm incorrect.
  14. Is there anyone out there who's had experience with the adaptive skiing program at C'back? If so, what do you think? Might have to take advantage of it due to peripheral vision loss! Thanks!!
  15. While putting equipment & etc. away for the summer, it dawnwed on me that this must have been a good season. I remember that I got to listen to the Yankees' season opener as I was prepping the skiis for the next to penultimate day of skiing!
