  1. It’s simply insane in Jackson, WY right now…2/10/2017

INBOUNDS skier-triggered avalanche CLOSED Snow King ski area today.

“Massive wind storm” downed 17 power lines on Tuesday and left left Teton Village without power and the Jackson Hole ski resort closed until at least Monday.

All the hotels in Teton Village had to be evacuated due to the loss of power.

It’s been POURING rain up to 8,500′ Wednesday, Thursday, and today (44ºF at midnight last night).

The Avalanche Danger is Extreme and High in the Tetons today and yesterday

Avalanche Warning Issued by NOAA and Bridger-Teton Avy Center today and yesterday

Flood Warning Issued by NOAA yesterday

Teton Pass, WY closed on Tuesday and has not reopened since. It’s estimated to reopen on Saturday.

Nearly all roads leaving Jackson, WY are currently closed. You can’t exactly leave Jackson right now…

  2. Elk did this several years ago -- on a MUCH smaller scale when the compressor building burned.

They built an outdoor compressor manifold and had generators to run it in place in under a week.  There are folks who specialize in this type of recovery.  Its just the amount of power that is needed.  They could place the units strategically around the resort, the larger ones are trailer based.

  3. "It's so weird to hear them assume everyone speaks French. I was greeted in French throughout the day."

    By Law:

French must be the predominant language on signs, retail or food service employees always greet customers in French, and there are even laws dictating whether parents can send their children to English or French school

  4. I know, one girl was into it and was really trying to get it down. The rest of us tried once. I said I was just going to ski down and leave for the day and the other 3 followed me but didn't leave. Guess I will find out this week what happened.

The replacement guy was just trying to piss you all off so you would leave. He took the money then spent the afternoon with the chick who was into whirlybirds free skiing and then giving her his whirling bird the rest of the evening. it's a good gig if you can get it!

  5. I always buy my pass for the lowest price.  Been paying just a little over $500 for the past 7 yrs or so at JF/BB or Blue.

I think the "100 day guarantee" is cool and all, but really, im sure they hit that more than not.  I think probably all PA mountains, except Bear Creek, probably hit 100 days as an average each year.  I dont know, seems like the car salesman saying "our cars come with 4 tires".

Elk would be great if they would stop planting trees, and letting people ski in the trees.  I get it though....Elk is probably close to you, makes the most sense for you to ski there....etc.   Everyone has a reason to ski where they do.

He was a used care salesman!

  6. I am growing up and live in NEPA and I was season Passholder at the original Montage for 10 years. Skied both weekend days and at least one night a week.   I spent my time lapping the North Face and cruising Fast Track and RunAway.  White Lightning had not been cut yet.

As the urban sprawl grew up around the mountain it began to feel less and less like a skier's mountain and more like a shit show.  That, together with the ever increasing influx of unsupervised 15 year old boys pushed me away.

What would happen is that mom would drop the boys off in the morning and pick them up at 4:30.  They would roam the mountain and menace anyone and everyone for the fun of it.

I always marvel at folks from the from Philly and NYC when they tell me how excited they are to have a ski vacation at Montage.  Its not what i have in mind when i think if going skiing to get a way from it all.

IMHO!  Sorry KC, but i suspect you share some of these sentiments.

So tell us something we already know......
Why are you infatuated with this? It would just be a waste of money to run the Long Haul on a weekday without upper Fast Track open or even if it was open. The only time it makes sense to run it is on a weekend with the whole mountain open.
Have you ever even skied there?

    I'll save you some time.....
    2/5/16: Closed today.

Not sure why the infatuation; in fact had forgotten about it til you guys kept bringing it up.  Agree that there are times when its not financially worthwhile, but then again when the rest of the mountain is open, why not try to get this up and running.

  7. Closed today.

Upper and lower Fast Track closed.

    From their website this morning:

"We’ve got 22 trails open, the only two that remain are Upper and Lower Fast Track,  we’ve begun the work here, and that’ll resume once favorable temps return later this week."
