  1. Someone was looking at the webcam and reminded me that Merry Widow,Tannenbaum, and Little Boulder were pretty narrow also fluffy,I guess you don't get over there much. And as long as nobody get's the wrong impression,I was never a member of PL,nor have I seen or spoke with them since their untimely deparature from JFBB.Keep the disgruntled employee list piling up PEAK!!!GREAT JOB!!!And yes I enjoy reading BDK's condition report too,I actually told him in another thread somewhere that the snow would be fresh on the lower 1/4 of JF lastnight,he seem's to enjoy my commentary as well.
  2. Everyone is alway's asking for advice,so here goes.Say for example on East Mtn.,If you have a east wind, get your steezy snocat operator to pile up a windbreak(a small one for each gun) behind the snowgun's on the far east side of the slope, then have the gun's pointed east as well and downward(tripod wisper).Visa versa for a west wind,it doesn't need to be too high,5'-8' or so,it's amazing how much that snow will break the wind.FREEBIE!!! <- East Wind N W E S >|| >|| guns-> >|| <- windbreak
  3. I seem to only remember giving credit to the snowmaker's.But not credit to Peak's management. Most of the JFBB snowmaker's are pretty good, but can only work with what their given.Without resorting to cuss word's and name-calling.Fact's are,the trail's are narrow, the snow is marginal and JFBB has had more open in bad weather before the fan's were ever installed.2001-2002 winter as an example. You all know as well as me that the winter's are getting warmer and fan's only work well below 25^ with low humidity. That money could have been much better spent elsewhere, like on the customer's or employee's instead of for bragging right's.BTW I will give prop's to Crotched NH,now they look like they have great snow and park's.
  4. Peak Resorts....all that snowmaking for the same'ol narrow-azz trails?!?!?!?When are you going to open up some more terrain or snowtubing at JFBB????Five of your other resort's are closed right now....you should should fly in Team Blizzard to come up to JFBB and pinch-hit!!!Or helicopter a couple more thousand Pole Cat's from the closed area's,maybe that will make it colder out somehow. But I guess having marginal snow is better than having no snow,I do give JFBB snowmaker's credit for that. ps: Try to keep the snow outta the trees's...jeez your gonna bring them all down, along with maybe a couple of lift towers from all that wet snow.
  5. ROFLMAO,that's a funny analogy,I never thought of it that way.I would agree with you,as long as customer's are willing to ski let them....as long as you can run the lift's safely and it's not Boulder Field out there.
  6. Camelback get's hit by the sun all day, that, and combined with the insane amount of traffic they have is what caused the greater snow loss imo. There are some day's when they do 10,000 skiers. The most you might ever see at JFM is 3,000.When Camelback hit's 10,000 they send them to us,lol.Ski's are like little snowplow's,it's quite amazing how much the snow travel's when you watch it.Top to bottom, then upward's after people get on the lift.Ever see how much the snow build's up after the lift take-off on the ground? And,all these people bag on them for shutting down in ice and wind. That's what you get after you rely primarily on two high-speed's,you reap what you sow unfortunately.
  7. It's just something I threw out there to think about. In a normal year, you like to have your mountain blown fully out before the switch to Peak.Money add's up RAPIDLY when you blow after that. You usually only fire up after the switch just to lightly touchup some thing's that badly need attention. It cost's alot to keep all those pesky snowmaker's around so long too.
  8. http://wwwa.accuweather.com/regional-news-...gion=eastusnews They better hope it get's cold before they go back to Peak-Time snowmaking when you can only blow at night.Typically, this happen's in the first/second week of Feburary(I don't know the detail's of their agreement with PPL).Afterward's,if you blow during the day,you may as well call it silver and gold dust.It just may not be cost-effective for them to try to open after the Off-Peak to On-Peak switch. The only big holiday left by that point is President's Day(depending on how the switch fall's).
  9. http://www.wnep.com/Global/link.asp?L=4423...p;nav=menu158_7 I'd get a refund, but I wouldn't buy a pass anywhere else just yet if this forecast and the longterm forecast hold's up.I doubt anyone will be able to stay open with decent-type conditon's.
  10. Let's see,3 SMI's on the last headwall(skier's left) of Rivershot(The Red). One a little farther up in the maze area above that point(skier's left).Wisper's mounted on swingarm's most of the rest of the way up(New this year).Tower gun's(single barrel)/wisper's on Floyd's(The Bowl). Assorted wisper's and tower's(single barrel) in other spot's.I know where every one is as I helped drag Alcoa armor cable up to all the SMI's gun's there,oh yeah, the power for those gun's run down to the new water pump house if you check into it farther.I gathered from what bigdaddyk said fluffy, that he was talking about poor conditon's in the area that the "Big Gun's" are located fyi.
  11. That would be 2000 ft..I don't understand why we never measured from the top of Lightning or East for vertical, missing out a a mad marketing opportunity, lolz.Nah I know,2000 is a nice, round number.Except E or F lift, they go about 1/4 the way down.I never took the altimeter down there so just minus about 1/4 I guess.
  12. BB = Base 1700ft. Summit 2175ft. Vertical 475ft. JF = Base 1400ft. Summit 2000ft. Vertical 600ft. Interesting tidbit, top of East Mtn. lift 2075ft on altimeter,so that might screw you up if you ride up there alot.
  13. kcsnowman, you obviously haven't been reading the other thread's.On a 25^ or below wetbulb night,no kidding one wisper won't out-perform even a kid polecat. But a number of wisper's can out-produce it.I'm not comparing on a one-to-one basis. You gotta think bigger.Like I stated prior,JF has the most favorable of snowmaking condition's probally in the state, well maybe beside's Elk.A wisper just work's better in marginal condition's...period.Ideal location/temperature and probally the two most experienced snowmaking supervisor's around is why JF has alot open. They would have more open if their hand's weren't tied and were given their freedom too boot.Kinda like the whole Shawn+Julian thing. Here I dug this up on the web, good reading, http://www.skibutternut.com/mountain/snow-making.html
  14. Bidaddyk,I'm glad they(Peak) wised up and let them use wisper gun's on East Mtn.They do better in the high wind's too due to the lower height. Now,I have nothing but the utmost respect for the JF day/night snowmaking supervisor's themself's and I can't posssibly tell them anything more on how to make snow. But it's not their fault at all.I'm sure if they had their way, much more of the mountain would be open right now.We had more of the mountian open in the 2001-2002 season which was almost as shitty as this one thus far, with far less water pumping and poorer piping. And I understand another hurdle their facing is a lack of experienced snowmaker's.I do give them prop's thus far though and I'm glad your day went a little better today at JF.
  15. The worst thing is when your own ski patrol/snowmaker's run them over with snowmobile's or the snowcat operator's.Dont' laugh,it happen's way too often!!!People should take their time to be more careful.
  16. http://www.neveplast.it/eng/products.html Look around and check out the video's,they are a HOOT!!!!!
  17. Umm......go out of business from losing your core customer's?No offense against park rider's,but they are not the bread and butter of your revenue.I can't see many of the people who came to Big Boulder in the past returning even 1-2 more year's after there sock's get rocked off at "Boulder Park".That's if you can even make it down the access road or through the parking lot without blowing up your car by then.
  18. Over the summer we did take out a significant amount of tree's on Merry Widow,it's still not enough though.I know myself and other's were against this idea, but were ignored as usual. This trail was probally the most popular freeskiing trail @ BB.And I'm sure quite alot of family-type skiers arent too happy about it neither, but they were ignored I guess as well.No small wonder JFBB season pass sales were down 60 percent last time I checked.
  19. Method9455,Thank's for saving my finger's.I'm not the one who setup or adjusted the gun's uninc,so I can't tell you what happened exactly.Just like you don't use a ratchet to loosen a screw, you must choose what snowgun to use for a certain conditon or snowmaking system.
  20. Agree - Bring them back or somebody with equal cred, Yumzz

    Dear Camelback

That's Ok,I guess it doesn' matter to JFBB that Camelback kicked their ass on Xmas day.Did you see all the Santa's there???And I'm sure a few made the decision to only go to Camelback during Xmas week solely because they were open that day and JFBB wasn't.Also, that $40-$50 a day for each holiday = around $100 when totaled, that may not seem much to you,but for other's it may be a major deal.Sorry for hijacking your thread here Ski,but your right, bottom line is company's should listen to their customer's and employee's or they won't be very successful long-term.The customer should come first, not the snow.
  22. We've tried to use SMI gun's at JF since the Wizzard line was produced as far as I know with alway's the same result's,too much clogging and they are poor in marginal condition's.I can fine adjust a SMI gun better than most people and haven't told ANYONE what I know fully about them.I can't give out all my secret's...lol.Also,I would be out there handling all these problem's if thing's went different.I would love to be out there helping them now.And like I said before, the experienced snowmaker's that are at JFBB now,the river water, and natural cold temperature's in the river valley is what make's all the difference in the world compared to other area's.It's not any "Magic" new SMI technology.Bottom line,Omnicron Wisper's with constant adjustment are the only way to go in this weather and marginal conditon's.

    Dear Camelback

JF was most definitely open on Xmas last year,as I was there working. And btw, people did enjoy working on Christmas day,if only because Blue Ridge use to give you $5.00 hour extra for working both Xmas day and New Year's Day.That has also became extinct this year, much to my chagrin and other's.I can't believe I'd ever say this, but I hope Blue Ridge see's how poorly Peak is operating JFBB and come's back to operate it once again.

    Dear Camelback

Ski,I understand you being pissed off,as I would have been myself. But why send them to JFBB???A place that care's even less about their customer's and employee's???The king's of bait and switch...Parklogic,Shawn+Julian,etc.!!!Lying to everyone to get their hard-earned season pass money....shame on you Peak!!!!!!!Here's a rundown on some of the change's at JFBB this year if you all didn't know yet. 1.Fire Parklogic prematurely 2.Eliminate the Super 7/5 season pass 3.Get rid of daycare at JFBB and throw out the playground equipment for the kiddy's 4.Raise up all the season pass price's substancially 5.Eliminate passholder preferred parking lot's 6.Implement passholder validation(Which you all just LOVE I bet!) 7.Eliminate passholder food/retail discount's 8.Charge $100 for the "priviledge of walking onto the slope's" VIP pass 9.Raise cafeteria food price's quite a bit 10.Lower quality...yes lower quality snowmaking/grooming 11.Eliminate the pre-christmas $25.00 lift ticket 12.Less hour's and day's of operation(JF closed christmas,BB opening later) Well I'm getting tired of typing, but you get the point, there is more.I won't even get started of how they are hurting the employee's,I'll leave that for another time.Send them to Blue Mountain instead Ski,I never had nothing but stellar service and goodtime's there.Or Sno Mountain when they open.Or Elk,you get the picture.
  25. Most of the puddle's are from all the wet snow being blown.Yes Wisper's are the tri-pod gun's you all know and love and probally have seen all over JFBB at some point. If you see a small puddle downhill from a SMI gun,it could have been from someone draining out the hose/gun from one.Did you see all the customer's complain about the icy condition's yesterday at JFBB on the new's?Another thing that happen's at JF,from the dirty river water,it tend's to jam the "Big gun's" up too, once that happens while it is running, all you get is a gigantic lawn sprinkler until you flush/clean the filter or nozzle's.
