  1. Thanks for your reply. Do you know how they are with trail closures? Last year when I was there in early march the entire Toll House section was closed, which I was pretty dissappointed about. I won't lie, I was really overwhelmed by the size of the mountain and was looking for some nice beginner terrain to get my feet wet with. I did spend some time on the Spruce Peak side to begin, but I got bored of that after a few runs. I would really like to check out the Toll House side this year, and am hoping that it is open. I don't want to stumble onto a trail that I can't handle and then end up getting into trouble. I can *carefully* handle the black diamond terrain at BC, which is equal to what, the blues in Stowe?
  2. While I feel bad for the guy, how can you not notice that the seat isn't down? That's a pretty obvious thing.
  3. Has anyone here been to Stowe in early April? We're planning our yearly trip up there, and it looks like we won't be able to go in March as planned - husband has playoffs and then nationals for the hockey team he coaches. We're looking at either the first or second week in April. Going in February isn't really an option, but we can try and make it happen over Presidents' Day if we absolutly have to (I don't want to pay the extra $$$ for lodging during that week, however). According to their website the end of their season is the weekend after Easter. I was wondering how the conditions are that close to the end of the season, if there are a lot of trail closures, how many people are there, and things like that. Also, Easter falls during the time we are looking at as well. Do you think that will affect the crowds, since lots of schools have spring break around that time? We were spoiled last year, we were there on a Wednesday and there were NO LINES. I'd like to try and plan for that to happen again. Thanks for any info.
  4. That's pretty scary. I remember there was a similar incident in Italy around 2000 or so, and a bunch of people were killed.
  5. Utah? That sounds pretty cool! I never have a hard time finding other adult skiers, but I have a hard time finding others boarders my age! All of my closest friends are skiers, and while it's fun to go to the mountain with them I'd like to be with other boarders sometimes. I dunno why...it's just different. They just don't get it when I have to stop and strap in after the lift, or why I don't like the trails that have long, flat sections. Broadway at BC is the worst trail for me, it's so flat! All they have to do is use their poles to push them along until they get to the next incline. It's not that easy for me!
  6. Lol. That makes me feel better. Bear Creek is the only place around that makes me feel old. It's nice to see other riders on here who are old enough to not be my school students.
  7. How is it not accessible from the carpet? That little run always was, I used to ride it when I was first learning as it would often be less crowded than the other bunny hill. There's really no way to get to it other than the carpet. Didn't it used to be called "Teddy Bear" or something like that? My geriatric ass would like to start venturing into the park this year, and that looks like a good place to start.
  8. West Chester had like 3 inches the morning, and the roads were actually slippery on the morning drive to work. I was totally suprised by the amount or snow, I mean really, we usually don't see this type of weather until January or February anymore.
  9. The husband and I are headed to Stowe sometime in March. We got married there last year and we hope to make it a yearly visit.
  10. Prove us wrong how? BC closing the park in a week and a half will prove that they're not out to make money? Do you even understand what you're arguing against?
  11. Just for fun (and because I just got back from my honeymoon and really don't want to go back to putting the house in order) I went into profiles and checked the ages of people on both sides of the argument. For the most part, the people who are complaining tend to be teenagers or younger, and the ones who are being rational (as well as writing legibly) tend to be in their mid 20's and older. If you have an after-school activity that you committed to and now you can't go to BC because the times conflict, guess what? Welcome to the real world. You made a choice about what is important to you, and it's not BC's job to accommodate your choice. If you choose to spend time with your friends after school instead, that's good for you, but it's still not BC's fault that they cannot accommodate your schedule. If you live to far away to make it up there in time: sorry life sucks, maybe next time. If your mom and dad say "no, you're not allowed to go up there on a school night/you can't borrow the car on a school night/we're not lending you the car on a school night" guess what? Still not BC's problem. Give it 5 or 10 years, you won't live at home anymore and won't have to answer to your parents about your day to day lives. My mom still loves me, but she sure as hell doesn't try and tell me what to do. I could bitch, because I'm not a park person, but I realize that maintaining a park is easier than maintaining the longer downhill runs, so I suck it up and deal. Like an adult. BC is a business, just like everything else in this world. They are out to make enough money to profit and stay open from season to season. Sure, they want happy customers, because happy customers are repeat customers, but the bottom line is always money. For whatever reason, they have decided that being open from 4-7 on weekdays only is the most cost effective way to stay open as long as possible. If you're that unhappy with how they run things you should probably choose another mountain to take your money to. Even if it's a little more inconvenient, because money is what makes the world go 'round, and the sooner you realize that, the better for you.
  12. **Attention Whore moment warning** One of the guys from my shop had his wedding on top of a mountain in vermont and it was awesome, but not a week after the place closed with all the mud and snow patches I did that! March 8, 2008 in Stowe, VT! One of the reasons we decided against having the wedding at BC is because of the weather. We wanted a snowy outdoor wedding, and since BC didn't even have any snow until Valentines Day last year, it wasn't really an option. We wanted snow, not mud, so we went to New England instead. **Attention Whore moment over** I think the whole hikeable park thing is really neat. I won't be there, because I'm not a park person, but the effort is appreciated. For those of you who are complaining, realize that life's not fair and not everything can work out in your favor all of the time. The bottom line is $$$, and I have a feeling that the people at BC have figured out the best balance between staying open as long as possible and hemorrhaging money like there's no tomorrow. Remember kids, a bankrupt mountain equals no fun for anyone. Edit because I can't spell
  13. Yeah. Friday night was EMPTY. Snow-wise, they did a nice job what they have. It could have been a lot worse.
  14. Hey, I'm new here, but not to BC. How are the conditions on the trails? I don't usually go into the park. I always go Fridays after work and stay until close. It's an hour drive from my house to my parents' house near BC, and if the conditions are crappy I might skip this week. From what you can make out on the webcams it looks really slushy.
