  1. A little off topic, but since we're on the subject of trains......... http://www.nepaview.com/ Friend of mine, local RR Historian.
  2. ^ Only reason it's worn is to keep snow off of me, esp if the guns are on....and I'm easy to spot if a customer needs something, and yes...as far as the pic, since I speak for the mountain I don't hide behind a false name/pic.
  3. Yep..seems that most resorts, Sno included, have a target date set for the 10th of December....hopefully sooner if weather permits.
  4. Thanks Melissa...I kinda figured that out yesterday....Thanks for clearing it all up for everyone else. BTW...your idea of an area at the top of the Northface for a kind of a warming area, pavillion/picnic tables is taking shape!
  5. Just figured I'd get this up here, first the job fair that is being held on Saturday November 3rd from 10am 'till 4pm. The usual jobs are lifties, rentals, instructors, lodge work..ect. Also SAT & Ski patrol will be doing their annual safety and lift evacuation drills so if anyone is interested in those positions then come on up. Also, introducing Dominic Condusta, who will be in charge of the Terrain Park this season. Dom has been part of the crew a few seasons ago, then moved on to work at Killington for events as well as Vail. He is an artist with a shovel and in the off season he is the trailboss at WhiteSox Dirt Park in Plains and also assists at Cattywoods in Allentown. He has some tough standards, he'll be at the job fair as well looking for those few good people that really want to turn the park into something everyone will want to come to.
  6. I dunno....possibly with that name, but the concert schedule, at least the preliminary schedule looks like it's gonna hit us in October with another "peach festival" activity, so there might be something moving in under that name. Now granted a concert may not be ski oriented or as oriented as the diehard wants to see, but it does bring the potential of a lot of people to the mountain closer to the ski season.
  7. ^ Actually be great for the bike business if we did. Jk, nah, just that if we're lucky enough to have snow on the ground and possibly be open in and around that time I think it would be a plus.
  8. ^ haha..yeah...gotta come up with a diff name I guess.
  9. Just a heads up on this...we were going to have this event this weekend for Halloween, but we figured, and so did the production company, this might work better anyway as we should...hopefully..have snow on the ground and closer to the season.
  10. We have a lot of work to do, I grant you..and for the most part I wanted to stay clear here until all the facts came out. In reality the Times did a halfway decent job for once explaining thing. We all work hard up there, including the operations staff, and the Gm, but ultimitly we have to answer to the boss, in this case Carlson. But,...ah hell..I'm not gonna write a speech...I've steered all of you with the facts and I've never lied to anyone here, just presented the facts as I get them. Just hang in there, we're opening, I just don't want to put out bad info or surmise on stuff. from the looks of the posts all of you seem to be supportive and hope things work out. They will...maybe we should have done this years ago...but, it's done now and we can move forward.
  11. Melissa...you have put down the wrong info here...this is why it's important to really know what is going on....the general manager has not been removed nor has he been in any way been ineffective in his post. Who has been removed is the General partner, (Dennis Carlson) effective yesterday. We now work with a trustee and have set forth our operations plan, and I'm pleased to say, our entire staff is intact and can't wait for the season to open.
  12. ^ I myself am a big fan of glades and tree skiing as I compare that to Mt. biking....but I don't know if it's just us or other mountains..is there an issue with insurance or Ski patrol having a say in this? Let me ask...esp if there are other mountain people reading this..how do you go about it as I seem to run into a wall everytime I suggest it. As far as bumps...agree totally and we will keep things bumped up as much as possible, like Boomer last season. I'll look into the Demo days as well...that is a good idea.
  13. Figured I'd beat the Times at their own game, but..like the title states, we, as in Sno Mountain, filed for Involuntary Chapter 11 Status on Monday night. Now, from what I understand is this was initiated by the corporation that now owns Sno, to get out from under the cloud of all the debt. The good news is, we are opening, again this is a Chapter 11, not a 7... so there is no problems with that..passes are still on sale, mountain staff is getting things done, our new terrain park manager is getting all that stuff up, repaired and ready..so..we're ok. It's just one more hurdle to jump over. I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record, and honestly I kinda felt a little crushed by this especially after having a banner Summer season and overcoming all the old issues for the most part..and..once again we get kicked right before the season starts, so me being the voice for the mountain I have to once again re-assure everyone that we are ok. But, that's my job. I'm sure we will all see the "Sno is Doomed" stuff all over again, but like in the past..the guns will be blowing and the lifts spinning. In fact we have Stoketoberfest next weekend and the job fair the first weekend in November..and I'm happy to announce that Dominic Condusta will be running our Terrain Park this season. I'm adding a link on the explanation of Involuntary Chapter 11 so you guys can read into it. http://bankruptcy.lawyers.com/commercial-bankruptcy/Facing-Involuntary-Bankruptcy.html
  14. ^ Already taken care of back in June, but thanks for the tip on it. We re-graded that whole area around the loading station, and along with that, at the top of the mountain, skiers left of Iron horse toward Long haul...also re-graded to eliminate that slight uphill grade and added a new trail.

  16. Well...the Fishwrap has stated that the organizers have it 30,000 unofficially. http://thetimes-tribune.com/news/peach-festival-organizers-say-they-ll-explore-similar-ventures-1.1357848
  17. That would be the whole venue gentlemen which included the Toyota Pavilion, Sno Mountain..and all activities. Fr the most part the activities went well into the early morning hours. A good weekend.
  18. ^ We did already...we opened the sale a bit early to co-incide with the Peach Festival and Customer service was busy all day with the passes, so..looks like it's been a pretty big hit so far. Speaking of the Peach Festival, that was insane yesterday crowdwise, unofficial totals for attendance is supposed to have surpassed 25,000. Putting that stage right in front of the wave pool was a brilliant move. Camping was a great hit as well as we had 4 slopes covered in tents and the parking lot & overflow were completely filled with motorhomes. Pics as soon as I get them edited.
  19. Sorry..seems that we always seem to skip the college price and with all the shuffling around and adding new stuff the past 9 days looks like we overlooked it again. I'll get that taken care of over the weekend and should have an answer for you in a few days
  20. On the "Ski Check" item...just to clarify as the kids on FB already had a fit...we still have the Free Ski Check for daily use, but we added overnight/seasonal storage for those that don't want to cart their stuff home all the time.
  21. ^ A real good deal..and matches the "Other Guys" almost exactly...good if you can't get out on the weekends during the days. Only available for sale now 'till the 3rd of September...not really supposed to go online and on sale 'till the 17th of August but since we have the Peach festival and all going on this weekend we figured we'd start it now and throw in a $10 water park pass as well. Once again, only restrictions are not valid on weekend days 'till 4pm and not valid on holidays and is only on sale 'till the 3rd of September.....so, get 'em now! ^ The whole pass schedule/prices. One added feature to the Unlimited Season pass holder is the "First Tracks" special on the North Face on weekends...you get access to the mountain before anyone else does...be great with the new "Powder Days" we're doing this year as well. All in all I think pretty good. Even a Tubing Pass this year...not that it concerns most of you I think, but Tubing has been such a big hit we figured why not.
  22. Just following up on this thread and after getting a chuckle out of the "popcorn machine idea"..let me share what we have done so far this Summer. Keep in mind a lot of what is being done is because of YOU either chimed in with an idea or came up with an observation that you noticed, and...we're working on it or it has been completed..or will when snow/season allows. We moved a great deal of guns around to maximize snow making power and coverage. You will see the difference on the North face and along Upper fast Track & Runaway. Slopes Cannonball & Lower Runaway have been regraded..no more big rocks sticking out.... We corrected the pitch at the Iron Horse loading area to eliminate that little incline that is a pain to climb to get up to the chairs. The Terrain Park entrance has now been set up with a log type devider to designate the entrance. (Posted a pic on here somewhere a few weeks ago) We eliminated that uphill section where you exit Iron Horse to the Right and ski toward Long Haul heading toward Upper Fastrack by cutting in a new trail that goes under LH right below the drive station (Again..pics somewhere here) What we call the "Grove"..the area you see riding Phoebe that is our shop area..usually not the prettiest area to look at is currently being cleaned out and reorganized. The trees under Phoebe are being removed as I type this...getting that cleaned up. I think it was Mellissa that suggested some sort of area to sit/hang out area at the top of Phoebe. Work in progress on that....might be a "Tree Stool" set up at first with some tables..and might possibly go to like a small pavillion later on. Those that use the ski check..you should, it's free......that area will now be covered and has a new concrete deck...no more mud/dirt! The "Connection Trail"..base area to Iron Horse is being regraded, although it will help with the slope condition when snow covered, it is being done for the Peach Festival coming up as we are allowing camping on the mountain that weekend. Although this doesn't affect you guys..unless you're still a noob, the approach to the bunny hill lift is being regraded to flatten out the approach to the chairs..just some minor adjustments to the curb/pavers for the water park to fix that. Same thing with tubing..we did actually a lot of work there to help that area as well, mainly in stopping and upsloping to slow everyone down. And some other odds and ends...although important ones...realigning and the continued upgrade of lighting going on as well. Keep you posted.
  23. here..let me fix that for you..... TIMES eats their words, SNO saved FOREVER!
  24. http://thetimes-tribune.com/news/sno-mountain-avoids-forced-sale-survives-to-cool-more-swimmers-1.1344540 Sorry I don't have time to discuss this or the last topic too much with all of you as I've been too busy with my business and added responsibilities at Sno, but I'll try to get on when I can. But once again the fishwrap is just that....fishwrap.
