  3. Thanks. Looking forward to getting her out there...
  4. State hint?
  5. My guess is Whiteface.
  6. Actually, MRG doesn't at all look like that. I've only been once and on a very low-visibility day, but most of the trails there are tight twisty trails, or glades. No wide open trails. Here's an example: My first visit there was during a 24" dump!
  7. I knew I should've put it in a different directory. Or did you really just know that?
  8. Oh goodie. So my turn?

    HUNTER

I only skied Hunter once last season on December 30, during Christmas vacation week. I skied with JimG. from AZ (who's now a mod) and his buddy, Karl and they made me ski my ass off all day. Hunter's terrain certainly is NO JOKE. I like the mountain. When I was there, I didn't find anyone to be overly rude or obnoxious. Sure, you're going to get some outspoken NYC folks, but hey, it's Hunter so just go with the flow. I didn't feel that it was anymore crowded than any other resort on a beautiful December day during Christmas week would be. Again, my experience is limited there, but I'll go back anytime, especially to meet up with some NY AZers like Jim or DMC...

    HUNTER

Uh oh. D's on the Hunter crusade! Hold on tight everybody!
  11. Fun thread. Our Guess the ski area thread has spanned 56+ pages! What are the rules here? Can I post a pic before the previous one is guessed? For that last one, going to take a random guess and say Sugarbush?
  12. Sure. Fire away. I'd love to get feedback on the best ways to introduce her.
  13. It does amuse me. So they sometimes open first...that's great. Hopefully, they see a good ROI for the rights to use that marketing angle. It would be interesting to know how many folks hit Woodbury based on it, versus waiting for areas like Belleayre, Killington, BW, or even Hunter to open. My point is it's not the same product so the comparison is a little flawed. But, you're right - first open is first open, and Killington did use that marketing tactic for years. Perhaps the low ROI is why they don't anymore...? What makes you say that? I have nothing against small areas, and in fact ski a lot of them every season - Sundown, Butternut, Catamount. I also plan to hit Mohawk many times this season as well now that I live only 25 minutes away. I don't visit sub-600' vert hills when there are larger options within an hour's drive, but these feeder hills are great for families and getting kids started. My daughter will be 4 next season and I plan to enroll her in a ski school at a local hill. I still don't really know why you felt the need to call me out here...
  14. Wow. Talk about trolling, complete with a call-out to me directly in the subject line. So to your comments above. PA has steeper terrain than Kmart? Don't know if these figures are 100% accurate, but according to this thread on AZ, Outer Limits is steeper, as are many other runs in the East. The problem with what Denton states on their Web site is that Avalanche is 66 degrees and also the steepest in the East, both of which I would argue is far from "fact". Regarding Woodbury and K-Mart, if you read my post, I simply stated it was not a fair comparison. If you think it is, then fine. It's just a matter of opinion, a concept that you seem to struggle with...
  15. Depends on where you live, I guess. It's usually only a small patch (not full vertical). It's a bit amusing how they claim to "beat" Killington some years though. Killington's new policy is to only open when they have top-to-bottom terrain. It's not a fair comparison...
  16. Wow. You're a real happy guy, aren't you? I suspect you're a real pleasure to ski with... And for the record, I never trashed Denton myself so lighten up and stop attacking me.
  17. I was joking. Notice the Boy, you're wound up pretty tight, eh? Again, I was just kidding. I wouldn't call myself a Jiminy local. It's about a 1:45 drive, but I ski there probably a half dozen or more times each season. The vertical is 1,150. Nice steep pitch overall though. Some of the steeper runs are pretty boring though as they're straight runs right down the fall line. You can rack up the vertical there though, especially on weekdays, by riding the six-pack which gets you back to the summit in 5 minutes. It's kind of a resorty mountain, but they do have a good lift system, decent pitch, and excellent snowmaking. Season's from mid-November until early April. I would say it's tied with Berkshire East as the best in the Berkshires. Jiminy gets the title for early season and light snow season with their consistent snowmaking, while the Beast is best after a dump - the best natural skiing terrain in Southern New England by far.
  18. Yes, indeed. For its entire 60 feet of vert... Sticks and stones will....oh, nevermind.
  19. Did you even read that thread? As far as Denton goes, maybe they should update their Website to just include some useful information versus the marketing hype. I wish them luck. In fact, I set up their profile: http://skiing.alpinezone.com/resorts/detai...m?resort=denton Since AZ is the #3 result for "ski pennsylvania" on Google, hopefully this will give them some more exposure. If anyone has a photo or a narrative they'd like to contribute to Denton's profile, feel free to contact me.
  20. Yeah, well, we're all just a bunch of trash-talking crappy skiers with huge chips on their shoulder about "local" skiing, remember? Here's a perfect example: http://forums.alpinezone.com/viewtopic.php?t=5568 Oh yeah, and don't forget that I'm an "*sswipe". We should all really learn to apply your level of class to our posts...
  21. Works for me...
  22. That poster was joking...geez. Come on guys, don't take everything so literally. You guys must just be jonesing to make some turns. Tough to do I guess when your ski season is only six weeks long... A joke. Just kiddding... Get it? Oh....I give up...
  23. And this is the precisely why I started this thread here. I consider you guys the experts in regards to PA ski areas...
  24. Wow. Do you take everything so literally? The guys were just kidding around. Sorry you were so offended by this. FWIW, 5% of AZ members ski in PA regularly and 4% live there. I think you making a bigger deal out of this than it is. BTW, a lot of you are using Killington/Bear Mountain as the gauge for the steepest or most challenging terrain in the Northeast. There are many other NE mountains with more difficult terrain than the mighty K-mart...
  25. It's not so much about bashing a resort, as it is keeping them honest. Our ski area challenge is a great example of that. You guys are very fortunate to have this great resource as well.
