Picked up the C'back winter magazine this week (a copy did not reach me by snail mail) while picking up passes and read about the Hotel/Resort planned for C'back. There are a lot more concerns than just how it's going to ruin the slopes: (Pardon me for being Mr. Negativity.) How can the current access road handle the traffic, not just of the visitors, but the staff & deliveries? Where's the water going to come from for the indoor water park plus "domestic" use plus snow making? Anybody remember the stink re: snowmaking during the drought years in the 90's? How are they going to handle the sewage? Does anyone else see that C'back will ready to go for the second round of casino licenses? Wonder how those at Northridge will react; Skidude? Skimom? Does C'back actually own land to cut new trails or do they need permission from PA DCNR? (Yes, I'm a tree hugger who would like a few more trail cut!) Don't plan on the place staying open "late in the season"; construction comes first! Ah, well, I've got two years to enjoy what's left & start a seach for new home mountain! Papasteeze Posted December 13, 2006 Report Share Posted December 13, 2006 we bought in North Ridge 2 years ago and frankly, I like the idea beacuse it will certainly drive the need for expansion. PA seems to be supportive to tourism and they will need the slopes. The hotel is planned for where the sun bowl lodge is or adjacent to it if I remember right. It would be accessed via the tubing hill which is a much more direct route to the slopes. If CB is smart, my thinking is that they would develop that area into a new base area, replacing the aged one they have now. Second fold, the hotel will drive more patrons to buy at north ridge which is planning another 200 hundred homes, the new builder wants to change the name to Four Season, which I don't like. With more sales property values should go up. Now, as I mentioned 200 homes plus 400 hotel units is a lot of sewer and water. I am sure that they have that angle alredy covered, what I want to know is how they can softly announce this and yet not announce trail expansion plans. They can't believe that CB can support that many bodies on thier already crowded slopes can they? As far as a late season goes. they will never stay open late as long as the current management exists at CB. They think they have a well oiled machine and appear to be stuck in thier ways and would never take less time than they are to set up camel beach. Remember they use the approximate 75 days between seasons to do that. They have a huge freshwater supply with that creek. It would require water treatment plant permits that I am betting they already have. North Ridge in itself is a huge development that is only half finished if that. Keep in mind also that there is quite a bit of land between the tubing slopes and Sun Bowl lodge. Access road, sure it gets clogged 3 months out of the year, but not really, only mid morning and late afternoon on weekends. There wasn't anyone on that road last weekend. For the most part...I'm just guessing at some answers here (hey, its better than doing hw)... 1. Say its 400 rooms (big place)...maybe 600 more cars a day on xmas week (when its filled up). Not a huge rush, considering there are 8000+ skiers at CB on a busy day. Not a huge increase, plus they will go up through the tubing park driveway. 2. Indoor waterpark shouldn't need too much extra water. After everything is filled up once, there is going to be a limited amount of water lost. A little from it going into the air, a little from people splashing and stuff, but not too much. I would imagine all the hotel rooms would use up more water than the water rides. 3. Uhh thats not really my department...Maybe truck it over to shawnee? 4. Who knows...Probably in there plans. 5. Doesn't really matter to me (or my parents as far as I know)...CB no longer owns northridge anyway... 6. I was talking with a long time mountain employee and he said CB owns the bottom 3/4s of the mountain...Which means if they wanted they could put in trails from basically the first turn on Nile mile...They do not want to spend the money to put in snowmaking...
