  1. I don’t remember ever seeing that 2nd photo with the major trail expansion. There’s already bike trails over there, and that part of the ridge is super gnar rocky. Would take a lot more snow to get that open than what’s currently in existence unless there was a large scale rock removal effort. This pitch is good for some more interesting terrain though; more/better glades would be nice. Maybe a more advanced area a la east mountain at frost?

  2. I went to the warren Miller premier in philly 2 years ago pretty much for the vouchers. The movies are generally terrible, and the vibe usually about the same. I think the glory days of rowdy movie premier parties in the mid Atlantic are pretty much dead, sadly. We almost walked out of the WM one two years ago it was that lame.

    interesting.

I finally got through to someone at Blue and they said the $25 kid pass isn't full access and doesn't include tubing.

my niece and nephew are visiting in december and I'm such they'll have a similar attention span.

Any idea on day tickets for under 6? They're not listed at all on the site, and i swear they used to specify that a regular day ticket was for ages 6-69 or whatever, so i assume that means free, but ya gotta go to the ticket window to get a ticket and verify they're actually under 6. I don't see the 6-69 designation anymore, nor do i see a 70+ lift ticket now either. So a 5 and under season pass is $25... which means that $25 is really just a convenience fee to not have to go to the window every time? Am i following along correctly here?

  4. Narrowed my binding selections down to 3....Marker Jester, Tyrolia Attack 14, Look pivot. Thoughts on any of these? I'm looking for light weight and durability basically. Look appears to be the most durable with metal build but perhaps heavier. Tyrolias appear to be the lightest. Marker's are somewhere in between the two.

Pivots. But make sure whatever you get works with your boot. Gripwalk, WTR, MNC, etc had to go and make things complicated again.

it'd be nice if they created a path new trail from the first turn of paradise onto coming soon. access with both lifts.

maybe take out a chunk at the bottom of paradise and force them further to the left.

almost positive that trail would be going uphill. i don't think you'd be able to get from paradise to coming soon without a bit of a hike

Sometimes a phone company will want old equipment for spare used parts in a serious crunch.  I’ve actually learned a lot about telecommunications from a few friends

@enjoralas might be able to speak to this a little bit more accurately than me, but it seems absurd to me that a phone company would take back old equipment, then take it apart for parts, then rebuild other potentially broken equipment. Labor to do that in the US is almost certainly more expensive than just swapping out the broken device with a new one.

  7. Does that include phone? If so, that’s a steal.

Like, a monthly payment for the physical device itself? Nah, my phone is all paid for. But it’s $45 a month for unlimited talk, text, and data, with Wi-Fi tethering included.

Not home internet related but realized that MVNOs, as opposed to major carriers like ATT and Verizon for wireless are a no brainer if you buy unlocked phones. I'm rolling with an MVNO on the ATT network, 4 phones, mobile Hotspot, wifi calling, more data than we need for less than a hundy. I'll never purchase, lease, finance an ridiculously overpriced phone with a network again (its not a car). Buying unlocked gives you so many more options.

yup, i ditched ATT for xfinity wifi (no, i don't get an employee discount), and i pay less than 50 a month for unlimited everything. My ATT bill was close to twice that without unlimited service. It piggybacks on verizon's network, so coverage is very good for me, with the exception of like two spots in south jersey that I didn't get good reception with on ATT either. Only downside so far is that international talk/text is pay-by-the-minute/text, as opposed to a flat rate to enable it for a week or month or whatever if you're traveling with ATT or verizon.

  9. Interesting Covid related thing that happened to me yesterday. I went to the shore two weeks ago and when I got back I started to feel not so great. Cough, congestion, runny nose, post nasal drip, sore throat, all the annoyances. It wasn't horrible but I definitely spent the long weekend mostly sleeping. So it's still lingering yesterday and I decide to make a doctor's appointment.
    1. Out of an absolute abundance of caution on Friday I went to CVS for a covid test. it came back negative.
    2. It was pure luck that they took me at all because I made the appointment online and if they had known I was coming in for a respiratory illness they would not have accepted me. "We don't see sick patients here at the office right now". Luckily it was a good doctor and he ended up seeing me.
    3. So this doctor checks me out, listens to all my symptoms, I reiterate that I had the vaccine, I had a negative covid test and that I did not have a fever and I never lost taste or smell. He then tells me that the vaccine is only 95% effective, and we don't have a lot of data on it yet so there's still a 5% chance and in addition to that it had been a few days and since I had the vaccine I might not be shedding much virus and that the test is only as good as how much virus hits the swab. Also he mentioned that we don't have data on false positives or false negatives. Long story short he said that with these types of symptoms the default is to assume it's Covid at this point, but in case its not he gave me some antibiotics.
I think this just kind of illustrates that our medical system has been absolutely rocked by this pandemic and at the end of the day what we don't know far outweighs what we do know.

PS The medicine is working and I feel better already.

Maybe I’m being naive here, but isn’t it somewhat irresponsible to just prescribe antibiotics without knowing that you have a bacterial infection, and not a viral one? For whatever it’s worth, your symptoms are pretty spot on with what I get for a few days if I surf a lot and end up taking a few on the head and getting an Atlantic Ocean netti pot session. Happens a few times a year.

I hope the hotel if built is not visible from the Appalachian Trail or east side summit

The pass situation could be interesting.  Weren't there rumors of Camelback thinking of joining Ikon?  A cheap off-peak pass for Blue like at Camelback would also be exciting

pretty sure proximity/visibility from the AT was one of the major sticking points of what could actually get built up top for the condo thing. i don't remember the number off hand, but i believe any structure needs to be more than x feet from the AT if it's visible from the trail, or something along those lines. vaguely recall that that's why the proposed condos weren't gonna be taller.

I sort of refuse to get uptight about the things i have no control over, or hope for things that wont come true, so i will be in a wait and see approach on this.  I guess we will see some activity over the next few months, since "they are going to infuse it with a lot of cash".  We will see.

Hopefully they do correct some things, and my first pick would be bringing the grooming up to a better level, since what we sometimes have is just basically dangerous.  I would like to see this addressed long before a lodge remodel, or paving.

That's not really a problem that requires money though, at least not at a "large capital investment" scale. They've got the machines already.

i'm not sure how crowded a hotel would be during the ski season. if you're going to go somewhere overnight, there are way better options than blue.

if their weddings/events are a big moneymaker, lodging would be huge since the nearest hotel isn't even remotely close.

bear's hotel is booked solid pretty much the entire winter, not sure about camelback. but yes, hotel on premise for weddings would be a stupidly easy money maker.

There was a bar in Fishtown in college  that had ceramic tile on the front that just went down to a trough. It wasn't in use but back in the day when the mills were active those guys didn't have much time on break!

sounds kinda like the 700 club? but they just have a toilet right next to the DJ platform. frankford hall has a trough.

I think the last time I was there was when you got a concussion at a rail jam at camelback. I was with Dime and justo was also there.

probably the last time i was there as well. it was cool when they were still doing ski movie premiers there, but their beer list hadn't changed in like 5+ years as of the last i was there. food was standard brew pub stuff, nothing was bad, but nothing was really good or exciting either. can someone buy BMDI and turn it into a B&B? by that i mean bed & brewery. place would make an absolute killing during the winter, and probably be good enough to survive during the summer.

How do u get from the garages to the terminal?
i have always parked at like express park, and they pick up your shit at your car, then drop you at the terminal. Not lots of lugging my shit around when i do that.

Exactly why I try and avoid an extra checked bag if at all possible when flying to ski. Trains, busses, shuttles, fitting 6 people plus gear into a large SUV/minivan all becomes much, much easier when you've got a pack, an overhead bag, and a ski bag. Yes, I usually take two pairs of skis. Exceptions for when it's gonna snow every day and I just take the widest pair I have. It's really not that hard to fit everything I need with that setup; you can cram a ton of socks, baselayers, etc inside your ski boots to save space. I guess if you want a fresh pair of pants every day after skiing, maybe? One pair of jeans can get me through a week just fine.
