Not that i know tons on the subject, but i have never heard of maximum security interlodge. I also didnt know they did head counts.
i think it was last year one of the accountant ladies at work stayed at snowbird, tons of snow closed the road, delayed open for avy, but when they got open the road was still closed. Im not sure she really knows exactly how lucky she was.

Thats known as an LCC Country Club day, Interlodge is lifted before the road opens. Alta/Bird open with only the few hundred people that were stuck in Interlodge.

  2. LCC is 100% closed, Alta & Bird are closed with no reopening date or time posted from what I have heard, maximum security interlodge is in effect with an enacted hourly head count. Alta is reporting 87" since Thursday morning. RT 210 is the most avalanche prone road in the US that remains open year round. A few things have happened, the last few summers LCC had some big mud slides, this takes out more trees/rocks/vegetation (snow anchors) than an avalanche will and clears the way for avalanches. From what I have heard, a UDOT plow truck and cat were burred when Lisa's ripped, LIsa's has not avalanched to the road in 60+ years, Lisa's also had a big mud slide over the summer, see where this is going? Superior also ripped yesterday morning and went almost to the bypass road, that was before the 19" that was reported yesterday and last night. I was looking at the road cameras this morning and a no snow removal was done above Lisas since yesterday, pretty much between Lisas and Bird entry 1 (~5 miles) is a big unknown as no one has traveled it. The snowpack was super touchy before this storm and this is not going to help. Alta patrol is running routs, if they can get the mountain skiable before the road opens it will be a country club day (or few days) for the folks that are interlodged.

  3. Not enough boner city's in the world ! An absolute classic and you got it in great conditions.  Super super sick skiing, its like the skiing equivalent of Yankee stadium !!!!
That book,  the slide guide 2 by Drew Hass and the ADK Green trail book is 90%  of everything in the east outside of the Chic Chocs.

I also have the slide guide 2, hopefully I’ll be able to get one or two of them this winter as well. The Thunderbolt is the furthest south in any of the books, knowing that area has been doing quite well with the last few storms it seemed like a no brainer. This shit I’d addictive, I need to start planning the next one!

I'm gonna stop at Hunter next Tuesday, 2/2 on my way to Whiteface. Already booked it. Decided against going on a weekend date, maybe will do that in late March or something

So youre going to Hunter, PC/Canyons & Snowbasin. It seems logical that you would look into some sort of Epic pass.....

Correct. I don't just go for the skiing, I go for the whole experience. Sometimes I sit in the lodge for 45 minutes and just vibe and take in the atmosphere while drinking a hot cocoa with mini marshmallows and then shred double black diamonds full of moe ghouls.

If youre going to vibe, John Paul is the place to vibe. Dont be a fucking clown all the time and listen when people are trying to help you have a fun and enjoyable trip.

  6. 5 to 8 inches. Too bad every single mountain in New York is sold out or I would have considered going somewhere, since I'm not doing anything all weekend. Though I'm not sure I could handle the crowds on a holiday weekend

You know where the decimal point is in a number is important. Please post a screenshot of a forecast that says 5-8 tomorrow.

Correct. There's a park & ride at the bottom of the canyons. I've also taken SLC public transit from wherever @GSSucks dropped me off when he had to work and couldn't ski with us that day. Ended up taking about an hour total to get to brighton from his house, including the bus ride, when driving would have taken maybe 40-45 minutes? It really didn't take much longer at all, as the stops are very minimal. Not having to deal with parking at the resort is pretty nice, too. Totally get your concerns about taking the bus during Covid times though.

The bus & train in SLC is super easy. Park at the lot at the bottom of either canyon or the second stop at either of the Smith stores. You may get looks driving up the canyon alone, Solly also charges for parking now I think its $20, but may be more if you're in the car by yourself.

  8. So as I mentioned earlier I think I will eventually have some delam issues with this pair. The first pair I used way to much epoxy, so I wanted to cut back on this pair but I think I went a little to thin. While cutting the tip on one ski I found a soft spot that needed some additional work. After the ski was cut and finished I opened up the soft spot, poured some epoxy in and clamped it over night. ae9d4abf7a89d56f0d5865a6e0df4eb1.jpg

After the fix it looks better but is still not perfect.

Overall I’m pretty happy with this pair, as mentioned I learned a few more things to take into the next pair. The shape felt pretty good overall, perhaps the mount point could be moved around a bit. For what I was going for they are also a bit soft in the tip and tail so I will add some core thickness to the next pair. With everything else remaining constant and only a core thickness change it will be fun to ski the two skis back to back. Overall I’ll count it as a success and I’ll count pair 1 as a fail.

    On to the next pair!

  9. Go to PowMow and ski the dam place, I think you will really enjoy it. Youre not an idiot, you cant get lost lifts to up, its a ski area, if you get lost or go out of bounds un-knowingly youre fucking dumb. PowMow has some of the most fun mellow wide open tree skiing Ive ever done, and its easy to get to.

Make sure whatever car you rent is 4x4 or AWD with proper tires or you will not make it up the canyons if the traction law is in effect. They will turn you around, or just plan on taking the bus.
